Weighted fly wheel Lectron carb And this thing you put in the airfilter boot I forgot what it's called but it directs air flow low and gives it more low down power hydrolic clutch e start
Depends what you want to do with the bike.. my yz is setup for bush/single trail. A flywheel weight definitely allows you to lug the bike at low revs without stalling, even with taller than stock gearing. Also moving the clutch perch as far away as possible from the grip helps alot! A pipe/silencer combined with a head to suit the purpose of the bike is also a massive improvement along with jetting/clip position. My yz can do everything a new fancy euro enduro bike can do, the only downside is no electric start
Did you see the Panthera Motorsports box at the end? Electric start is available, it's pricey, it's fiddly to set up, it's heavy and finding a good spot for a battery is tricky but electric start is awesome!!! I have one on my CR500 trail riding bike.
@@craigdavies8099 I just watched the end part, I remember reading a little while ago that an electric start kit would be available for the yz. Curious to see what's involved to do the conversion, a good location for a battery is the airbox, I had a DeWalt lithium battery under my seat at one stage for my lighting kit that just rested against the airfilter
@@nathanjv28 My kit didn't come with wiring, switch or a relay. Can't remember if it came with a rec/reg. The smallest lithium battery from Anti gravity is perfect for airbox install, I made a little Titanium box for the battery. It reduces the air flow a bit. Some shims might be required to get it aligned properly, that was the hardest part... I would be happy to do the install for you.
I know it’s something unusual but at the end of the build would you be able to break down the cost of the build along side the cost of the average used KTM and a brand new KTM, more often then not these builds aren’t actually worth the money but who doesn’t love watching somebody build a flash bike with all the parts we wish we could justify buying!
I'm living the way that you explain about the bikes you couldn't be more clear and understanding about it all and in less than 5 mins of footage I learned something new today so thabkyou ever so much that the two strokes have now progressed to being fuel injected :D
The YZ's are awesome bikes, I've ridden a YZ250 with bulk coin thrown at it for enduro- electric start, hydraulic clutch, suspension, flywheel weight and it was good but it still unfortunately wasn't a shadow on a born and breed enduro 2 smoker.
I'm no fan boy of any brand bike, give me one, I'll ride it, as long a I'm riding😁 But it's a pretty big call saying the huge list of guys who have won world championships on Katos were washed up and old is wild 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Toby Price, Caleb Russell, Daniel Millner, Jonny Walker, Jeffery Herlings, Tony Caioli, Ryan Dungey etc etc etc
I haven't ridden since i was young, and videos like this really makes me want to take it up again. Great video! And i have obviously not been keeping up with the dirt bike world either, since i had no idea that KTM had bought Husqvarnas bike division. This hurts my Swedish heart.
I'm actually doing this right now 👍 My sons are adults now and don't ride their old 2000 YZ125, I figured I'd convert it to Enduro spec and make it look like my Sherco 300 at the same time. 18" rear wheel, tidy up all the wear and tear items and a new set of graphics. Should be finished soon. 👌
If you want to make it an offroad bike more than a track bike my thoughts would be: 18" rear wheel Yz250x transmission kit Mill the head or put an aftermarker head (apex, tsp, etc) Fmf or equivalent gnarly pipe Smart Carb or Lectron (sc2 personally) Revalve the suspension to be softer 13/50 sprockets Governor mod Thats it for off the top of my head.
Definitely go with a WR transmission. The KTM/HUSKY/GAS GAS transmissions are Geared much lower than the 250x transmission. WR Box would be much more suited
I love my YZ250X. In this order. Apex head. Heavy fly wheel. Maybe the X CDI. 18" rear wheel. Some people remove the spacer on the power valve governor. Suspension for sure. Skid plate. Rad guards. Maybe a 270mm front rotor. Gearing if needed for your terrain. And tires. The keihin carb is pretty good actually, once jetted correctly, as long as you don't see too much elevation change.
I was planning an exact build like this a week ago haha awesome video. I’m just curious if that panthera estart kit will be reliable as I’ve heard mixed reviews on it .
I'm doing this at the moment with an old 2000 YZ125 that two of my sons used to ride. It's already blue, so I figured do it up to look like my Sherco 300 Factory 2T and make the YZ a small bore Enduro bike. Sherco headlight and front fender, 18" rear wheel, new sticker kit and wear and tear items replaced. Should be mint 👌
ASH , YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT..IM 84 NOW AND IVE HAD MANT DIRT BIKKES. THE MOOST FUN BIKE IVE HAD WAS A 1982 YAMAHA YZ 465..IT WAS A REAL HANDFUL,BUT MUCH FUN..LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE FROM MY HEROS HOME IN NZ..PETER SNELL,A GREAT SPORTSMAN IF EVER THERE WAS ONE
I set up an 06 yz250 for trails/scramble racing, it worked great. The suspension is better than any stock ktm. I added a 11oz flywheel weight, wr450 shock(off the old steel framed one), bigger gas tank, stunt clutch lever(easiest pulling set up going), hand guards, rad guards and skid plate. I ran the stock pipe and gearing on purpose, it worked good locally, any lower and I lacked top speed plus first was low enough for me.
I would consider an electric start, rekluse clutch, lower gearing and a low range pipe if you're going into the woods with it. Motocross bikes are less than great for trail riding unless you make some changes.
I'd build it for Enduro Riding - Ground Up Mods: Motoz BFM Tires (21/18) Michellin Bib Mousse, Re-Route the carb vents with a T Fitting for water fording, Skid Plate, Flywheel Weight, skid plate, bark busters for starters, that is what I am doing with my 2003 Suzuki RM125 Enduro Build I am doing on my RU-vid Channel! great bike guys, love it!
Great episode mate She was probably due for a bottom end🤔 Find yourself a second hand TTX Ohlins shock and get Robert Taylor to wave his magic wand over the forks Don’t waste your time and money on an aftermarket electric start As others have said 18 inch rear wheel and flywheel weight 👍
Flywheel weight tubless rear and a gummy tyre ether a shinko 525 cheater or kenda ibex the shinko comes in a 19” if you plan on keeping your current rear wheel. Tyres and tubless are the two biggest helps with my mates that I get into riding enduro but suspension is a biggy to
300 cylinder[ if possible], head that has interchangeable domes for running pump gas and/or race fuel, port match the cylinder to the cases, stroker crank & holeshot device . If its absolutely necessary get a lectron carb.. They just made a newer model but hasn't yet been released to the public.. Umm 2015 air box mod let's you use the updated plastics.. but not necessary
Wouldn't it be more helpful if the YZ or YZX came with better gear ratios in the transmission and perhaps available 6 speed to go with it? I do prefer a carbed motor too. The TPI is a non starter.
So far my yz250 is geared one tooth down on the front, apex racing head with xc dome, gnarly pipe and fmf 4.1 silencer next will be 18" rear rim with tubless and sending off the suspension.
Hopefully you have better luck with the China built stator me and a few people I know did , I went through two stators in around 150 hours , got stuck in the mountains both occasions , ended up going to the total loss system that uses the stock stator , I will say the mechanical portion of the starter system is well designed and built and mine shows little to no signs of wear at 150 hrs +…..
Apex head with the xc dome, governor mod. Absolute huge difference in my 250x. It lugs and pulls, revs out all the way very cleanly, no more dirty mid range like factory. Made a gearing change to suit my local terrain. The bike is an animal now.
Hey mate I ran an 07 RM250 a few years ago in the central enduro series which was pretty good after a flywheel weight, 18’ rear and setting up the timing and jetting. Definitely needed electric start though. Or à rekluse, they seem to be good in technical stuff. Interesting to see how you go
Have seen the panthera electric starts before on a yz250x and they look like there just going to get destroyed to easy as the stick out really far, and they mucked the guy around and he had to send it back twice before he got a working one reckoned it definitely not worth the big price tag in the end
A stock YZ250 can do Mx and XC without Any issue, as long as you keep it high in the revs in the latter. When it comes to Enduro tho’... it’s lacking. Thank heavens there’s mods and aftermarket parts and with enough Cash you can make it better than a KTM or Husqvarna.
I’ve got a long list of mods that I’ve done to mine. Without electric start, counter balancer and a 6 speed gearbox it is never going to be better than a Ktm exc in the bush. My mod list WR426 full gearbox 18” rear wheel Mako 360 handlebar mount 11 litre tank Trail tech stand Throttle tamer VHM head Vortex ignition Honda master cylinder Fasst Company anti vibration foot pegs 2013 yz250f swingarm and linkage 2006 Yz450f forks Black wheels with talon hubs
eyup ash got the same bike a bit older but the same ive stripped it rebuilt engine re newed all bearings and road registered it and its a lightin kit on it it came with a after market hydrolic clutch and iv added a fly wheel weight they improve things
Hello there out of curiosity. Why you are comparing Yamaha with KTM why no other brands like Kawasaki. You should do Mods on 4 stroke bike like YZ450F competition model
Here in the uk a top model exc is around the same price just what they are and owned a few of them and moved to husqvarna like the brand its just preference but can imagine being close to Europe it’s easier to own one
That yz should pull passed that 300tpi bike all day. Motorcross bikes tend to be more aggressive. Can feel the yz lift the front constantly where the tpi bikes are smooth.
@@alienfromarea5115 no. For off road riding you want low compression head. It will have better low end power, will stall less, and will lug better. High compression heads are ggreat for four stroke motorcross bikes on the track. There is a low compression head from RKTEK for the yz250x and it makes a huge difference in the tractorability of the bike. Thanks. Take a look at these. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-huShnvv-2cM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UOKD3QcwEzY.html
1% machine 99% Rider you could put a normal guy on a brand new 450 put Eli tomac on a 80cc and he would smoke them but at the same time technology is technology the comfort and rideability of the new bike is mind blowing
Put the yz250x transmission and softer springs FMF fatty and 18 inch rear rim.. and fly wheel weight.. would make bikes more comparable. Too much to invest in old tech in my opinion.. I just ride mine as is...if I rode a Huskey or KTM. If want one so I don't try em...lol You're comparing a motocross bike to a trail bike. I have the yz250 also. It works. But no comparison to a KTM xc. And first gear is too long for what I like to ride. I like tight single track. But overall the bike is good. Great thing is I can still take the yz to the track days...
I’d probably suggest the steel clutch basket over the flywheel weight. It’s much heavier so it will help with vibration as well as basically make your bike impossible to stall. Maybe depending on how aggressive your planning on enduro riding I’d suggest an 18 inch rear wheel
i mean a new ktm 250 sx in australia minimum from 11k to 13k depending on dealership and the second hand market being stupid for two strokes now, a 2013 model for instance going around 6k even yz 250’s going for similiar prices it’s just what colour you like more really
Or, you could save a lot of time and money and just go buy a modern enduro bike. In terms of the yz vs sx, the yz has better suspension stock and can make the same power as the sx. However, the only way that you're getting a six speed, factory lighting and estart is if Yamaha does it.....
