Wow John! I know that was a lot of work but man that clamp is just a beauty now. You could see in the beginning that paint was stubborn just by looking at those wire wheel marks in it but it was holding on. You conquered another one. Excellent!
Beautiful job on that clamp John, and boy was it a lot of work, but well worth the effort, the blueing is the perfect finish, similar effect to those torched oil finishes !
Guys like you got me hooked on the Cold Blueing, I just finished doing an Old Drywall Hammer last night and then started a Hatchet that I'm going to Blue too.
That's a pretty C clamp Mr John. Nicely done. I have a few of those old Craftsman clamps that need to be restored and I've been thinking about doing a red, white and blue finish on mine.
Thank you Ivan. I have one I painted red. Your multicolor one sounds interesting. About 5 years ago Scoutcrafter had a July 4th clamp challenge and I Long with many others entered. I will send you a link.
How would you go about removing the pad on the end of the screw when they are a solid piece? I have a few missing the pad but I do have some donor parts, seems like I’d have to cut them up and re crimp them back on 🤷🏻♂️
I turn the screw backwards until the pad comes off. I put the pad back on the ball and clamp to my work bench and use a punch to tighten. It is tight and not as flexible. it's okay for show but for use flexible is better. I have about 50 clamps but this is my first one with a solid tip that I removed as I usually just work around it.
How did you get the moveable head off and on the adjustment screw? does it just pop off and pop back on? I also like to do clamps, and use blu on the adjustment screw then buff and paint the clamp itself, gives a nice contrast also. I like the other clamp you did, may try that too.
T turn the adjustment screw backwards until the pad pops off. To put back on I put back on and clamp it to my workbench then tighten pad using a punch. I don't always remove it I work around it
