We check out a snowblower that won't start. It comes in with fuel in the oil and dripping from the carburetor.
When the dipstick is opened the oil goes all over the place and smells of fuel. Many times you have to look closely at the dipstick or smell it to find the fuel present. There will be a sheen up most of the dipstick because it sits on top of the oil.
This is an MTD powermore engine used on almost all MTD Pro units, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Yard Machines, Bolens, Troy Bilt, Yard Man, White Outdoor Power, etc.
This is a Craftsman snow blower model 247.889701
The carburetor part number is 951-14026A ( amzn.to/41eKWml )
If you would like to clean and rebuild the carburetor see our video on that at • Craftsman Troy Bilt Sn...
If you replace the carburetor, be sure to check and clean the new carburetor because the quality control is not good. This does not matter if you are using OEM or aftermarket replacement. They should both be checked before installing. See our video on this also!

I'm doing the carb with the tall choke mechanism, and a few of my customers are having issues with priming the carb to much and that let's fuel out of the carb and it dribbles out. There is no issues with gas getting into the crank case, but they freak out when the prime to much, I'm going to a customer's home tomorrow to address this issue, and teach her how to set up the snow blower, and how to run it and what not get upset about.... Lol, great video.

Hi thanks for your video. My snowblower is same make only 24”. When I push the primer I hear air and see gas leaking out the carb. Is this what I should do? It starts up, but smokes and shuts off after a minute or so.

Make sure the oil level is good and does not smell like fuel first

This happens to mine EVERY year. I use 94 octane, fuel stabilizer, etc. It starts fine in the fall and then immediately fails. I fix it, it works fine all winter, then the cycle repeats the next fall. Why does this happen every year?? The first 7 years I had no issue- now it is every fall.

If your all of a sudden having to do this repair yearly you possibly have some corrosion going on in the tank or the carburetor inlet screen could also be holding some debris here. Best bet is going to be clean/flush everything and make sure it is in good shape then start using ethanol free fuel instead of treating fuel that already has ethanol in it. This will save you a bunch over the life of the snowblower. Thanks for watching!

I was hoping this would be the ticket for me! I was gifted a 24” Craftsman 179cc snowblower, it wasn’t running and same deal, the gas was all in the oil. I drained it, put in a new spark plug and a new carb, fresh oil and fresh gas, put it all together and no go. It did try to run but it bogged and coughed and would only run a few seconds. I took it apart again and checked things, put it back together and now it won’t even give me the few seconds of hope! I pull and it turns but just won’t fire. Any other guesses?

We cleaned the carburetor and changed the oil/gas mix in the crankcase. Did you have the plug out? Many times they will be fouled from trying to start with all that overfill mixture in there. Check the spark while you have the plug out. If it is a torch plug just replace it

@@IndRepair I did replace the torch plug that was in it, it was in bad shape. It’s got spark but just won’t start. I did have someone say these machines are finicky if trying an aftermarket carb on it, so maybe I’ll try oem?

@@jamiesdetailingden6620 It should still start regardless long as the fuel in it is good? I would probably lean towards valves/compression at this point probably pull the valve cover and make sure the valve train looks good
