#mechanic #repair #lawnmower I recently picked up a 1994 craftsman gt6000 that was used as a towing machine. It has been sitting for around 10 years. Lets see what it takes to get this vintage garden tractor running again.
Super cool video! I have the 94 w/ Kohler Command 23 HP. I found it on CL for $350. I wanted it for it's 50" deck, to replace the one on my 2000 green GT3000. It also came w/ a heavy 48" snow blade, wheel weights, an extra set of back AG tires/wheels & it's original manual in it's plastic bag. It was only used to plow a driveway in the winter, which in Western Washington, it doesn't snow often or usually very much. It's deck was never used. So, now my GT6000 is my favorite for mowing & moving firewood; I use it throughout the year. It hauls ass, is a much smoother ride than my newer GT3000 & the massive snout on it makes me feel like I'm cruising around my property & neighborhood on a big hog. It's an absolute tank & handles hills & slopes so well. I hope you keep this one; it's a workhorse & that winch is bomb! I love it's 6-speed, too. It was fun to watch you get it started after sitting so long & it sounds great! Can't wait for your follow-up video. Thanks!
I also have one just like. My neighbor gave it to me about a month ago. He said it runs Drives and Cuts. He said the deck belt came off and he parked it about 3 years ago. I haven't had time to work on it yet. Awesome
I have the same machine with the 18hp twin Briggs. I have moved my 18 ft car trailer with a cavalier on it with ease, it’s all in the gearbox which is built tough
Awesome Alex! Man you just can’t beat the GT’s such a well rounded tractor. I have a red 2003 GT5000 hydro I mow my moms with every week, can’t wait to see more of this one!
definitely-I have the back blade, box blade and the plow. Use the plow mostly to dig ditches when needed. Does a tremendous job on ground engaging stuff. Have a harbor fright wench on the front to pull me out of jams. You are going to love it on your homestead.
Bro! There’s no stopping the GT6000 heavy duty hi low transmission. It’ll pull your shed out of a hole if you want. My old blue bayou and je mal a la tete tractors had the same tranny as yours. Beasts! I’ve never had a magnum before. Nice job bro!
Alex, I’ve seen you use your fuel bottle multiple times. I actually use 2-stroke as well, but in a small pump sprayer bottle. The way I figure it, the pump sprayer somewhat atomizes the fuel, plus the sprayer is really shooting fuel all the way through the intake into the cylinder, so the odds are better that the engine will actually get fuel where it needs it and can combust the fuel more readily.
You may want to check/change the oil in the transmission. The fill/add is behind the left rear wheel- they take straight 30 weight with no additives. I am very jealous of the winch/3 point hitch set up. If you can please show a little more of how that all works and what it is attached to. Thank you for sharing.
I love these old GT models. I quick fix to get fuel to the carb is to use the air compressor and a rag to push the fuel to the fuel pump. If you have an issue with the tractor not priming the pump after sitting you can add a pressure bulb from a boat tank to prime as needed. I added one to my daughter’s tractor and after sitting all winter the bulb primed the line and the tractor fired right up.
Alex that thing is a beast! I bet it would pull a car with that dual range transmission. What a find and it runs beautifully. That thing will be so handy around your property. The emblem says made in USA, and back then they probably were. Are you rebuilding to move into a bigger shop? I really enjoyed this video, and look forward to seeing what you envision for this machine! 👍✌😎🇺🇸
I’m so excited to have a nice towing/pulling rig. Love these older machines. Built tough for sure. Yes I’m doing my best to put together that shop as a replacement for the current one. The new one is 12x20.
Hey Alex amazingly informative video! Thank you! I was wondering Initially the charging system was reading around 12.6 volts and then you tested 13.8 volts, what was reason for discrepancy? Corrosion…etc. Love your step by step approach to problem solving excellent.
I have similar to that gt6000 mine had a different motor the it runs sideways the belts but I was wondering if you knew what oil goes in that rear end my motor I had to change out cuz it was smoking and running real hot I took a camera down inside the Pistons and you can see scarring it ain't bad I'm going to put a Harbor Freight 13 horse motor on it and if you did know about the oil on the rear end that would help out tremendously I got a plow with my tractor my son bought it for me thank you for the video
I’m jealous! that thing runs so good! I love old 80s-90s engines built in the USA with quality, nowadays everything is built like crap and people don’t know what gender they are… what the hell happened to people!!??
I find myself being a hermit in this crazy world. I try and stay positive but almost every time I’m out somewhere I encounter rude and nasty folks. I still hold onto the fact that there is good, but it’s getting fewer and further apart. I’m so excited to have gotten this machine. It will help a lot with moving and pulling in the yard. I did find a deck as well but I don’t know if I can save it. It’s really bad haha. Thank you so much for the support.
@@freedommowers420 I’m the same way! wish we were neighbors! Really happy to see your channel growing and always enjoy watching your vids I always click on yours first when I get on utube
