"The triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism" - the best summation of Doctor Who ever, and it's likely not many people will hear it. What a shame.
@@66PHILB but he still used force anyways Hell, even in the recent series he was brutal. Remember him watching as the Racnoss were dying, and he didn’t lift a finger? He still had that edge to him You should check out “doctor who’s gonna bust a cap in your ass”
That was the great missed opportunity back in the 20teens when Matt Smith was leaving. Ferguson was finishing up with CBS and was obviously offering himself to return to Scotland with all the Who references and tributes on his talk show. Instead they cast his old punk bandmate Peter Capaldi. He was OK but Ferguson could have better continued the eccentric nature of the last three young Doctors...into an older character without making it so severe. Who interest wained worldwude with Capaldi, then down the toilet...same thing happened in the 80s with Colin Baker then the next incarnation was even less interesting. I wonder if BBC said NO because CF had lampooned the Royal Family so much, especially the once and future King.
@@cgoodson2010 some good folks have uploaded a number of Ferguson's interviews on RU-vid, you might even see some of the compilations in the recommendations for this video, like the 4 interviews with Karen Gillan or the interview with the 12th Doctor (and former bandmate) Peter Capaldi.
@@mattellistone364 It was a music clearance issue. BBC wouldn't allow them to use the Doctor Who theme. Typical bureaucrats being asses because they can be.
@@BrokeNerfing They did air it the following January when Alex Kingston was a guest. Its well worth watching Craig's intro to it at the start of the show: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xh_UnO8UNJk.html
If he is this excited when Matt comes on his show I can't even begin to imagine what he'll do when his old friend and punk rock bandmate Peter Capaldi inevitably stops by! They'll spend the whole show just fanboying!
He's on The Talk right now so I came here to watch this again, because I miss him on late night. Craig, you were the best talk show host that ever was!!!
When I first saw this, I had no idea what Doctor Who is. I had had no idea that the man who came in at the end was so awesome. Thank goodness I do now.
I'm so glad this finally made its way to the Internet. Craig had every right to be as pissed as he was when the song didn't get cleared. Vintage Ferguson! The best late night host, period.
Brilliant! I've been trying to figure out why he isn't given more credit. His shows are actually worth watching. He's funny, has a great report with his guests, and can hold his own with the best of them. And the fact that he did the first ever Doctor Who themed show just earned him tons of bonus points. Love it!
Not just a US Who fan, but a Who fan from way back. Tom Baker and the Ark in Space (ripped off by Alien) hooked me for life. So glad the revival caught fire, and Matt Smith is awesome so far.
This didn't air on that episode anyway, hence the bit about it being "lost". They got word five minutes before the show that they couldn't get the rights for the Doctor Who theme and had to pull it. It did later air for the episode with Alex Kingston episode though.
@@ianjones9961 Although he ribbed the producers or whoever was supposed to have gotten permission on air in a humorous way, you could tell he really was pissed off about not being able to air the segment that night.
You know what this reminds me of? Something out of The Muppet Show. And given how brilliant The Muppet Show is, I mean that as the HIGHEST of compliments.
This made me so happy I started to tear up. I've watched it several times already today and I adore the lyrics. Intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism ftw!
They used this version in some special "40th anniversary" features on classic Doctor Who DVDs. Showed a huge amount of clips from what seemed like almost every show they still had footage available from
Thanks for putting this on RU-vid ! Wouldn't have known this existed. Found this Aug. 26,2018, so sorry for the last response ! I miss Craig... he should have done Dr. Who as a sidekick, if he couldn't have been the master himself ! My favorite Dr. Who was Tom Baker... that grin of his always made me crack up... after him, I really didn't enjoy the shows... so that's my two cents !
how I imagine peter capaldi's(second) appearence on the late late show with craig ferguson will go like: craig: so you're in doctor who now peter: yeah it's awesome! craig: and I'm in this unknown tv from the UK peter: yeah, I guess. craig: funny how things turn out, last time it was the other way around
originally they didn't get the rights to use the Doctor Who theme song but they did later so they used it as the intro for Alex (who plays River song).
