Craig G was Marley's dude from Queensbridge. Something else yall may not know. When Marley broke off from Mr Magic, somewhere around '89, It was crazy. Mr Magic had his own radio show on WBLS in NYC and Mr Magic was his DJ/Engineer. They apparently had a fallout and Marley broke away from him. Thus, the Ju-ice Crew was pretty much over. THEN, WBLS bounced Mr Magic or Mr Magic left the station and they gave Marley Marl his own radio slot in place of Mr Magic and it was called the In Control Show with Marley Marl. Craig G was constantly on the show with him and would do "free-style" rhymes by himself and with others, especially Juice Crew members. One day, they collectively dissed the hell out of Magic whereas Craig G said something like, "...you wanna try and flip -- sell ya Audi and buy a clip..." this was referring to Mr Magic who drove an Audi 5000 back then. It was off the meters back in the day.

rahsaan hill It most likely was over $$$ like most of our black music does. Shan was at odds with Marley initially because he producing for LL, Shan's initial arch enemy and so on and so on... Shan has long mentioned how tight he and Mr. Magic were. It was as if he was closer with Magic than he was with Marley.

Baltimorehop wow, you're on point fam it's true I can add more I'm from Q.B. I know them all I was there but wasn't affiliated because Marly marl was picking his own team for juice crew wasn't putting nobody else down from Q.B. I consider myself the "lost tribe" I've worked with Rockwell noel (r.i.p.) & black poet at the time juice crew did not put them down after Rockwell noel & poet (beat you down ) & ( taking you out" dissing krs1 (b.d.p.) & I worked with Marly too.. I know the whole story but you're correct so far
@08mraskew
@08mraskew Год назад
Well if u droppin history like that how come u failin to mention that Marley was grooming one of the most prolific DJs on the wheels of steel? Pete Rocks name still ring bells as one of two of the best rap duos of their era ( & he spit as well later) Note: please don’t mention poet again!?!😂

yea not taking nothing from the others but those where the street cats out the crew what all the members don't tell is how fly ty had their parents sign consent forms or something like that because he had them as kids all of them(except BIz) even marley marl ty said he had marley on the radio at 16 so it's funny how they don't mention the true relationship they had with management

Big Daddy Kane said Freestyle just means Free of Style.Meaning not on any particular Topic or a Concept.That's what Kane said.And I as I recall as early as 1983.No one was really going off The Top of The Head.At least not any of The Stars at That Time.The Off The Head Aspect came much later.Now that's not to say that Cat's back then wasn't doing it at all.Because I knew a Few Homies Who was going off The Top back Then.But not everyone was doing it.As far as regular Street Dude's go.Because I remember back in Bmore in 1985 Me and My Man would rise The Bus and Train to go see Cat's for Rhyming.And when They Found out that My Man was going off The Top.They would reply like! "Aw Man Yo I ran out of Rhymes and Shit".My Man was like! "No Biggie Just Freestyle it then". Well! None of Them Couldn't.See The Thing back then at least in Baltimore.Was to be able to Rhyme for ever like Caz and Melle Mel and Moe Dee.And Spoonie Gee,LA Sunshine,Special K and T-LA ROCK.And forget lil Rodney Cee.As long as You had Several long Ass Rhymes! Shit You was Good.Until You came up against a Nigga who could go off Top.And soon when going straight off The Top of The Dome start catching on! Mann Shiiiit! Everybody started trying to do that Shit.Then when Yo! MTV RAPS. Hit The Scene.Every so often You would see on their little commercials and skits for Television Breaks.Cat's Holding The Yo! MTV RAPS Microphone trying to Freestyle.Some was Good at it.Others were ok with it.Then Some was Nice as Shit with it.So at that point.1988-1990.I knew that Freestylin was here to stay.But also Freestyle is a Dance Music.The kind We use to Pop lock and B-Boy Break to.Also The Freestyle came from The BMX Scene for all The Slickest Bikes.So I'm not sure which Genre of Performance was using The Word First.But I know We use to utilize BMX References to Rhyming all the Time.I'm telling My Age saying this Shit.But I'm sure It's Heads out here that know what I'm talking about.

FACTS: Freestyling originally was lyrics that weren't used in the studio. Rhymes that were for the street and/or the party jams. Over time, the meaning got distorted and MCs began thinking that rhyming off the top of the head is freestyling. MCs back then were rhyming off the top of the head as well, but it was rhymes that were meant for the jams that has always been freestyle rhyming.

Big Daddy Kane is of the view that a freestyle is a pre-written rap that is "free of style", basically a person bragging about oneself. There is a video: 'Big Daddy Kane explains that a freestyle is reaaly a written rhyme' Here on RU-vid.

Its unfortunate but although Shan was the lead artist of the juice crew ( after Roxanne became a little inconsistent with coming out with records)and one of the best emcees of his time , and Prince of rap at the time when BDP started coming at him, a lot of his fellow just crew members specifically people like Craig G and Big Daddy Kane had issues with him. And a lot of it really stem from rivalry and competitiveness. Kane already proclaim that when he came into the juice crew through biz markie he always felt the kind of way towards MC shan at that time for referring to him him as the "new n**** instead of Big Daddy Kane . When Big Daddy Kane and kool g rap finally got on with the juice crew MC shan was the biggest hit maker at for the Juice Crew at the time Point Blank Period .

I think th ebattle or the beef between Juice Crew and KRS was advantageous and a different form of marketing which gave them exposure. I don't think we have loosers in this story, we have legneds.
