A Crane Loader for the Type 2 train, 12 years after the Akiyuki Crane Loader for the Type 1 train. Based on the Akiyuki Crane Loader. Frame design and initial Stud.io file by Dunes. Gear rack and clutch timing system by Jude Wright.
Everything is driven by one motor in the train, all mechanical timing without computers. Free building instruction for more Train Type 2 modules including the Train itself on my Rebrickable.

An incredible feat of engineering! I really like the different camera angles used, thanks foe making it

It's quite clever to have the car provide all of the power functions. Great mechanism, as always

That‘s a very clever way of avoiding a precisely timed reversing mechanism! I’m gonna remember that one! Although without the chain drive of the original, the linear cam has quite a jittery motion.

The original had problems with loading balls where the loading time would be too short. This is also solved by the cam and clutch timing system. The sometimes jittery motion at the start of the movement I hope to overcome with a bit more tweaking after an event day by gathering more experience with the module.

I think the cause of the jittery motion is the better application of power. I built the type 1 before I did the gearbox for this one, and found that a lot of power was lost in the old version. Over time too, that became jittery as friction became an issue. Another aspect is that this version runs faster then the old type 1 so a reduction in torque is seen. I will admit its more jittery then I had expected. Its also worthwhile to note that in changing the geometry I found that the rubber wheel had to be removed from the rim that rides on the cam, as the new geometry somehow lowered the ball container more then the old one (and now the geometry didnt work). Perhaps removing the rubber part reduces the absorption over the bumps in the cam. Perhaps Its worthwhile to re install the rubber tire.

Is this really obly using power functions and gearing? Not mindstorms?
@BerthilvanBeek

Yes, only one Powerfunctions M motor in the train and mechanical switches. The building instruction is for free, no Mindstorms in there. I will make a video soon with more explanation on how the train system works.

@@BerthilvanBeek Wow! Truly a marvel of engineering then!
