Hello Crankers, today we are trying out the very small and affordable hurdy gurdy from france, it's made by Henri Renard. Its decent for starting but definitely not a lifetime instrument. What do you think?

I just received my colibri last night. The wait time was only two months before it was ready to ship. The design is a little different now, mainly the tailpiece. It also has a violin tirant peg instead the guitar peg in the video. It's not as quiet as the video makes it seem though. When I play it the sound can be heard from the other side of the house. It has plastic tangents and it came with extra cotton, rosin, and two extra dogs. I'm excited to finally learn to play!

Nice video Sergio! I met M. Renard last year during LSC and his instruments seemed pretty nice, I eventually thought about getting one of his instruments. Ps: the background music of the video seems a little too high, it overlaps with your voice :/

Yeah, seriously had a hard time watching this video because the "background" music made it difficult to hear the talking or the Gurdy being reviewed. I don't even know why there was background music to begin with :(

@@Max_Griswald Isn't that on purpose when he is telling us that the instrument may be too quiet to play with other musicians?

I'm agree, looks decent to try the instrument and the posibilities... It's seems easy to carry and at least cames with a case :)

It's a very portable instrument, maybe be great for people that want to start or want It as a second instrument :)

Me gustan mucho los diseños de Henri Renard, son bastante curiosos, casi parece un científico loco de las zanfoñas. La zanfoña se ha convertido en uno de mis instrumentos favoritos, aunque por lo general es bastante caro (entendible, no es un instrumento común), ya cuando haya oportunidad consigo una ☺️

Nice one Sergio! You could try a spirocore as a chanter to bring the volume up?

I tried replacing the low G for a Hi g and It has a bit more volume, but still super quiet! Maybe we can tryout the spirocore too, the keyboard is ace though!

This seems like a nice HG for learning the basics. Perhaps the option of having 2 melody stirngs will make the volume louder. How good are the tangents? Does it have wooden or metal tangents? Thank you.

The tangents are plastic with rubber on them. Very similar to metal tangents, but they can not be bent and must be adjusted with a screwdriver.

Does the shape or volume of the body have anything to do with quality of sound? or is the body for looks? This one is beautiful to look at.

Sometimes the shape affects the projection, but its not the most important parameter

nice instrument and useful video, the music in the cbackground is rather nonsense though! . it just destroys the song of the calibri.consider removing it
