Cranking Up Some Fenders on the Quad Cortex

John Cordy's recent video where he was running his Pro Reverb on 10 got me inspired to crank up some Fenders on the Quad Cortex. In this video we'll try out the amp models on 10 as well as pull in some Captures from the Cortex Cloud.

fantastic work David , ive got to say im lazy when it comes to ir's and impulse responses etc. also its summer and my d28 keeps me busy ! but the ir wouldnt work because i hadnt ever downloaded any which forced me to learn how to do it, so thanks ! im loving the quad cortex for quiet recording and practice , i wish they just moddled the fender reverb tanks and added them automatically to any fender amp which contains a reverb and you can dial in the amount like a real twin or deluxe . thanks again

Have you heard the Extreme album Waiting For The Punchline? Nuno used a Fender Vibroverb reissue through a 4x12 on that and it's one of the most glorious tones I have ever heard. The amp had a faulty tube, which gave it that overdriven sound. Check it out! The track Cynical is a great example of that sound.

Just listened to it. That's a Vibroverb?! Never would have thought that in a million years. Awesome tone.

@@davlavmusic7070 yeah, hard to believe isn't it? It was a 63 Reissue Vibroverb that he used through the 4x12. When the faulty tube actually blew out completely that tone was lost and they never got it back. For me , it's the greatest recorded Fender tone ever. I'm not sure about boosts, I don't recall him saying he used a boost on that album. He used some Boss delays and MXR phasers, I know that for sure. I've tried a few times to get that tone, but it's really hard to nail!

@@bingefeller The QC doesn't have that model or the power amp controls. But I wonder if a Fractal could do it. I think it has that model and there's so many additional controls (variac, etc.) on the power section. Maybe you could recreate it... I'll need to see if I can borrow my friends FM3 again...

@@davlavmusic7070 you would probably be quite successful with an FM3, as you have finer controls over the parameters. I tried the Tone Junkie Vibroverb capture, and it sounds good but it's missing that something. Having said that, I'm not great at dialing up sounds, I tend to download other people's tones and maybe tweak the eq and use them.

Great stuff! There seems to be a delay effect on your voice. Is this intended?

No, it was not. Sorry, there appears to be a 2 min section where I failed to mute the sound of the screen capture. So you're hearing a dual audio - one from the screen capture and one from the mic - that are slightly out of sync.

These sound so full and rich, you’re a great player.. I’ve subscribed to hear more.. Is this just guitar>cortex>interface>DAW? Or are you adding in some of your room mic or DI too? Thanks man, just working through your videos!!!

@@gibsguitars It's all direct straight into Logic via USB. So the QC is the interface as well. No additional eq or effects in Logic, everything is pure QC.
