I fish Holt lake on the Warrior River in central Alabama, trying to locate crappie and learning what stage of spawn there’re in right now. Casting jigs
Thank you Danny 🙏. I’m a year under you and have fished for crappie since I could hold a pole, that’s all my dad did when not working. I’m looking forward to getting on the water again soon. Appreciate your support 🙏
Water at Prairie Creek Reservoir, in IN, was 50 to 54 degrees. Didn't get any Walleye like intended, but got some yellow Bass, gills, and 2 Crappie. Most of the day we had no luck. It was slow.
Good to see you catching crappie. Our lake, Mark Twain in Northern Mo is muddy and water temp still in the high 40’s low 50’s still a couple weeks away from the spawn.
I was sick through most our spring bite, last couple months. So I’m just getting back out and having to figure them out. Hope you have a great spring bite. 🙏
A man showed me a trick one time when we were casting for crappies. To heat the bend of the hook. So when you get hung up you can pull it loose. It straightens the hook when you pull really hard but it will hold a fish well. Just don’t heat it too much. Or it will get really soft and straighten out really easy. I just hold a bic cigarette lighter flame to it for just a few seconds right in the bend of the hook. I have caught Crappie over 14 inches doing this.
I'm getting ready to hit Eagle Creek in Indiana but they're not moved up the van yet it's 40 feet deep and it was just 33 degrees last night but I'm ready when they are
I’ve fished this particular lake for years and started fishing it with jig and cork about 25 years ago, caught some but they hold deep here , the lake is usually one of the clearest lakes around. So I started casting deeper and done a lot better. The ones I caught close to weeds were still about 10’ deep. But I’m sure you can catch them on that rig.
Have you been out to holy lately? I went this afternoon with minnows and caught a few small bass but I couldn’t find the crappie. Is there many crappie in the lake? I haven’t had any luck there.
@@awfoutdoors6299 thanks. I’ve think the bass are the same way. I’ll catch a few bass one day and then not a bite for the next few trips. Do you know if lake Tuscaloosa is any better for bass or crappie? I’ve never been on that lake. I’m planning on going though.
I make my own jigs also I make weedless jig heads using a very light wire that florist use in flower arrangements. I tie it in using 2 lb mono.and secure it with Sally Hansens hard as nails. It works really well. Nothing is completely weedless.
@@awfoutdoors6299 The wire is extremely fine and bends easily.. I have tried sewing thread recently to tie the wire in and it works just as well as mono and it is much thinner.
