I have the 8' and 11' Presso rods and love them, I don't have the $ for a Presso reel and I'm now deep in envy after watching your video and the fun you had. I have the Okuma Helios 20&30 sizes on my rods and after using them on many trips and hundreds of fish I found I couldn't be happier nor have the need of anything lacking in these reels. I enjoy your straight to the facts and honest no-bullshit reviews with lots of experience to back it up, please carry on with your excellent work while I await your next brilliant video. 🐟🐟
thank you sir! That's why i bought this reel. To be honest, mechanically it is nothing special these days. Perhaps not worth what I paid for it even with the discount , so don't be that envious. But I didn't buy it for the value. I just love my presso rods and to fish with the presso combo... it just fills my heart with joy. I really don't care about the mechanics of the reel in this case.
Okuma helios is not a good reel. Don't take this the wrong way, i just want to give u a tip. Okuma reels are always reliable and always a great value, but it stops here. They do NOT feel smooth, have high inertia, and do not feel finesse. My favorite combo reel for the Presso rod until now was the Daiwa Legalis 2500D. No other model! Color matches great! Very low inertia! Very light! Very smooth! Second best would be Daiwa Theory 2500 but that one is about $150, and the Legalis feels almost the same for $50. Just trust me and get a Legalis on a sale somewhere..
Heywood Jablowmie' do you know the weight of your presso 8' and 11' rods ? ill have to get a longer/light rod for the little seatrouts in my area and really like featherweight stuff.
You are the one that made me make the decision on buying the presso rod after watching your review on it. Its an aweson rod and i enjoy fishing with it
Just picked up my new Daiwa presso 7'6, sweet not fished yet snow, but looking like 1/8 oz spinners and spoons are going to be great, loads perfectly. Your review is right on
thanks for the kind words. I can tell you that I have seen many a new rods since I made this review and I still think this is the best ultralight rod. If you like the rod and want to jig with it, get the 6'6. Still not as sharp as a pure jigging rod, but good enough, and of course u can dual purpose it for anything.
Man that drag. I wanna put it on a record and listen to it all day. I don't understand the line, its thin like braid but it shines like mono. What is it?
I will make a review on this line later, but it is a whole different category (polyester). It feels like stretched plastic. It feels exactly like plastic to the touch. It is smooth like mono and casts... too good. It is super dense and heavy and sinks faster than fluorocarbon, and because it is so dense, it is more sensitive than fluorocarbon or braid. However it is not all good news - it is super expensive and sold only in ridiculously low diameters, breaks off super easy, and when casting it wants to come off the spool all the time. But there is some magic in it for sure - i have never before thought i can have so much sensitivity with a daiwa presso rod
I really like your videos and wish I had more places to fish freshwater close by. The places you fish look like good places to fish out of a Kayak. I like the BK series of Daiwa and own a 3000 on a 7ft medium heavy rod.
Thank you for the metric units :) The fine tackle might also be a little milder on the fish and they might have a better chance to survive. I use 0.10 mm line on my reel for catching walleye and pike with jigs. I adjust the drag after setting the hook and I never lost fish because of too thin fishing line. I already landed a few fish of 90 cm, however I lost a pike of 117 cm because the snap bend open but I caught the same fish later on another rod.
except if you are around snags and u need to stop the fish : ) I got a 103 cm musky on 0.18 mm. Not as thin as your line, but its on video - u can go watch it on my home page
The reel is now discontinued and extremely expensive. Even if u find it it will cost over 400$ and i don't recommend paying so much for it. This is the rod: amzn.to/2Lh4kJp
Glad to see that you are putting the new reel to good use. Sweet looking combo. I looked on Digitaka but didn't see the reel at the discounted price. Great video though.
i got it from Plat. I was thinking of making a community post about it but last time i did it 100 people ordered and Bass pro shops did not honor the deal. I was a little selfish this time, making sure i get it this time. But he has great deals every now and then, worth keeping an eye..
i had big headaches with this line. Lost probably 100 feet on day one. It keeps jumping out of the reel. Maybe because i put it on the night before and didn't settle yet? I can't remember when was the last time i had line tangles on a spinning reel...
i_fish yeah the line needs to be put on a few days before using to let it set in.....and you can’t fill the spool like you were using nylon. This line can be a pain to use....but once you get the hang of it is very rewarding.
@@ifishcatfish I'm in the market and will be checking it out. Think Bass Pro, Cabelas or any other stores carry your set up? Would like to hold it in my hand prior to buying it. Your set up looks really nice but expensive.
You got the right rod! Amazon is just stupid with descriptions. But thats where i got mine, and it said the same. However I got mine for $52. What I do is add to cart, then 'Save for Later'. Then watch it a couple of weeks... The price goes up and down a lot, every week.
Yes. 6’6 is a little stiffer. There is no difference between !6’6” and 7’0 and 7”6 other than length. But the 6’0 and lower are softer. A little too soft. I prefer the 6’6 personally. For this combo i use the 6”0 just because i want extremely light.
What is a really good not cheap crappie setup for bobber fishing and maybe some regular fishing? Rod and reel. I know you like daiwa press's, but what kind of rod? UL, L, ML and what action.and brand?
@@ifishcatfish would you say the 8' is the good all around for float/some jigging in that series. I'll definitely use it for bobber fishing, but occasional jigging.
I would like to ask your opinion mr. I fish I'm trying to make a decision on a new fishing reel and I got it narrowed down to two or three one the Daiwa legalis, the other Daiwa Regal or the new Daiwa Laguna your honest opinion which one would you say was the best reel for the money which one do you get the most out of for the money you spend on it? Thank you very much
Great looking combo, my combo is daiwa 6.6 ul presso with a ss700, want to upgrade next year mind you nothing wrong with this setup but the reels today are so much smoother!
What size of that presso rod? I’m thinking about getting another short rod 5’5 or 6’ to cast 1/64 - 1/32oz jig head. I’m using sensilite 6’6 right now and that rod is too stiff (more like Lite instead of UL) I also have spinmatic 7’ but that rod is so wimpy and soft.
agree with your sentiments on spinmatic. However the Sensilite has L and UL version. I have the UL version and it ROCKS. I have review on it. I doubt u will call it stiff. U probably got the L. But to your question, this is the 6'0 Presso. I always considered it too wimpy as well. The 6'6 is very different than the 6.0, much less wimpy, and in my opinion better. However since this is my extreme combo, i put the 6'0" just because it is the lightest. For some reason with this super light reel the rod is super balanced and jigging was kind of doable. It will never be a jigging rod, but in a pinch, u can jig with it. I still prefer the 6'6" presso over this one.. but just not for this particular combo. This combo is ... its something else and i don't want to change it. I've fished UL all my life and still this was a new world open to me.
i_fish I had to go into my garage and checked lol. It is definitely UL version. I can’t cast a good distance with 1/32oz jig head. The reel I pair with is Sahara 750 with 4lb izorline. I actually went to local and check on presso, they have new spinmatic in 6’ but no presso and actually not as bad as 7’ one. I do a lot of jigging and hopping which I plan to do with new rod with lighter weight targeting bluegill. I watched a lot of your video as well as the one you reviewed a bunch or UL rod. I enjoy a lot of your video as well. I also watch the video you like new daiwa legalis LT, but I plan to get either Exceler 1000d or 2000s for new rod.
your last comment got deleted by youtube. I can see it in history, but i don't see it in my video and cannot reply to it. It has been very frustrating, youtube deleting comments that it considers offensive. Not sure what is offensive in that comment. But no matter which Presso you chose - you will not like it for jigging. It may cast super light lures better than the Sensilite, but u will lose a lot of jiggin action.
you know... exceller is the better reels and its worth the extra money. The only difference is the inertia. For some reason, the Legalis is a little big lighter to turn from a stationary position. But u can't go wrong with either one of these reels. I can tell u the expensive reels are not any smoother than these 2. They lighter and maybe last longer, but not smoother.
I tried to buy the 2000 series off eBay but didn’t work out. Found another 17 model 1025 model new in box for 290+ shipping. In the meantime I did pick up two of the old diawa exists off tackle warehouse which are currently 50% off. As nice as that real is I can only imagine how the new model would preform. I will say this and I don’t think I paid much attention before but the sound of the drag on these high end diawa is fantastic.
My question is I see a 2025 spool up for sale that is pretty cheap. Will it fit on my 1025 reel. I think I heard you say in one video they are the same other then the spool
i am 90% sure, but bot 100% Iknow the body is the same for sure, but not sure about the rotor that spins around a larger spool. Did they make a larger rotor just for the 2025? I really don't think so, thats not how daiwa and shimano work. But it is possible, since it is such an expensive reel - maybe they did to a separate rotor just for that reel. I would buy whichever i find a good deal on and not worry about spools. There is very little difference between 1025 and 2025 anyway.
I need to try the Power Pro Super Slick since you say you like it. I haven't found a fused braid I like because all of them I've tried have frayed after not many fish catches. I use Power Pro Maxcuatro because of its smaller diameter.
i said its my favorite power pro. That is true. But not my favorite braid. Daiwa J-Braid Grand is not as smooth, but more supple, and for finesse fishing I prefer it over the powerpro. It comes off easier because it is soft. Not for beginners, as knots can drive u mad, but i don't think you are. I flip the bail manually, like u noticed, just before the lure touches the water. This way the line is always tight when the lure touches the water and does not keep coming off the spool after it hits the surface and stops.
I'll give the Daiwa braid a shot if you like it. I want a line that gives me maximum casting distance with a light weight jig. I do a lot of crappie fishing below a dam tailrace and the area with all the crappie is off limits so a very long cast is needed to hit the spot. When its windy I have to use a weighted float to reach it. And yes I'm not new to fishing. Over 50 years I've been at it. My favorite sport and I used to guide for bass. Bass, cats and crappie are my favorite
i have to tell u, very little difference. This reel is a little lighter, and drag sounds a little better. But both equally smooth, and both very low intertia and both look good with the daiwa presso rod!
I was thinking of grabbing the daiwa presso to jig for trout but the top of the rod is very flexible (almost medium taper). After watching your review, I might go with a daiwa spinmatic.
the reel was discontinued when i bought it. Impossible to find now, and if u can find it is double price. I got it when it was on clearance 50% off. Still expensive but was worth it. It is called Daiwa Presso Limited. 2025 C. If u watch two videos back u can see the unboxing video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X9xGoZLevxY.html
i hate to say that, but watch the next video :) Also, I am preparing a review on that line. It is Varivas something something... i don't even remember. JDM
Victor. I know that you have done a lot of reviews on tackle. How about a new rod and reel arsenal video. I would like to see which ones you like and for what reason.
2 piece, 6'0". I have all models from 6 to 9 foot. 6 is too soft, 9 is too stiff. The 4 piece rod is significantly stiffer than the 2 piece rods. The action on the 2 piece rods is ... as u can see it in the video : ) . It is not Progressive. It is not Parabolic like a carp rod either. It is in the middle. Recovery is very slow. I have detailed video review on this rod - u can see the curve in the video with different loads.
Oh, No, Sir, I have the cheap Presso that is sold in the USA. www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-pso602ulfs-presso-ultralight-spinning-rod.html The one you are talking about has similar action though.. Maybe one day I will buy it but no more budget this year
Awesome rig! Looks like fun! Your crappie seem small where you are fishing, in GA the crappie grew huge and not unusual to catch 12-15” weighing between 1-2+ pounds. If you want to take a trip to Woodstock GA we will go out and fill up the boat, it’s best when it starts to cool down in October. Let me know if interested we can talk on phone to fill you in etc. Fan in Georgia Paul
This is Chicago suburbs. Thats all we have : ) I cats thousands of crappie per year and only 10 or 20 11" fish per year. I have never caught a 12" crappie in my life. I would love to do that but GA is too far. If u want to exchange contact info send me email to ifishcatfish@gmail.com If by some miracle I do make way down there, I would definitely take u up on that offer! I appreciate the comment and the offer!
You should do a review on the phenix braid line 3lb and 5lb test. They currently make the line in pink and green color. I own the pink 3lb and the casting is amazing!!!! I think you would love it!
I wanted to try the varivas braids but all of their colors are high viz. I like the daiwa green moss because it is low viz and i don't need to tie a leader.. tying leaders is a problem for me because i break off a lot when i fish for crappie..
i_fish thanks, I’ve seen that. My issue is that for the 6’6 I want it says 4 pcs in the description, I’m worried that it’s a travel rod and not a 2 pcs
amazon is screwed. Send me the link and i can help u. The right way is to go down to the info and find the serial number of the rod and look it up on Daiwa's website. Descriptions are wrong but the serial number is always right
Great video. I think I’ve been running my drag too heavy after watching this video. I have always been scared of using the euro/japanese true 2lb line. I may have to bite the bullet and try it out. Great vid!
i like the drag slipping just a little bit. This way i know it is ready to give, if a big fish hits my crappie. I have had big musky and bass hit my crappie and with lose drag i was able to land them. On camera!
Great video! The combo did its job. However, I might be the exception. Not sure that I like the sound of the drag. Although you landed some nice crappie.
I like exceptions. What didn't u like about the sound? Can u describe it? I am really curious. No offense taken whatsoever. I myself don't like a lot of things..
it is extremely fragile. If you are even worried about it do NOT buy it. The blank is SUPER THIN and any kind of damage will be fatal. However a fish cannot break the rod without the angler doing something wrong. Every time this happens it is the fault of the angler. You should not allow the fish to break your rod. Use drag, and do not bend the rod in very acute angles. Watch the video in my home page. I landed a 40" musky with this rod! Yes, i landed it! It didn't snap because i never allowed it. The rod is fragile during TRANSPORTATION. You can't just grab 3 rods in your hand and toss them in the truck like u do with your ugly sticks. This rod is always in a rod sock and transported with care. Thats where the danger is - transportation. Not fish.
They are the same reel. Fuego has magsealed main shaft and side plates. Sounds good but if u want to open the reel yourself for maintenance the magseal is actually a problem. For freshwater i prefer exceller
This is Varivas Polyester line. I have a review on that line. Ever since that video i have used it in pretty much every video. Search my channel for Varivas and u will find the video
Nice video! I've only been out once with my new Presso. Our state is totally locked down until further notice. Anything new going on with you? Hope you and your family are well. Stay safe.
my family is great. I feel bad for all the other families that are affected by this stupid lockdown. Fishing has been somewhat affected with most lakes closed... but a few lakes and the rivers remained open so i am focusing on carp right now.. Hoping to switch to crappie soon
