This is a special fishery in NC and hands down my favorite. This is a little further north than where we are. In southeast NC we have a few lakes where you can catch em year round. The acidity in these lakes limits the number of species to pretty much yellow perch, pickerel, and flier. The lack of competition for food produces plenty of 13" class perch in these unique lakes. But the big show down here is at the headwaters of the W******w river around Christmas. If you can catch it where the river is above the dam around Christmas time it can be epic. 50+ fish days are possible, but the water level and water temp have to be perfect.
i was at the dam 2 years ago and the water was high. caught over 280 perch before i quit counting. coundnt catch any keepers this spring. guess the water hasnt been high for long enough
