Crappie Spinning reels. Which one gets returned?

I'm very happy with the 11ft ACC rod and the Pflueger reel. The Okuma was just a tad too heavy. Those longs rods are heavy enough. No need to add more weight. Glad you found it helpful.

It sure is. Great reel at a reasonable price.

Pfleuger works great on my 7-6 ultralight. No issues… Between the rod reel and 4lb line I’m out 80 bucks. Can’t beat it.

Hey Bill.....I have 3 of the President reels now and I've really enjoyed them. I probaby need to go to shorter rods like you have. Those long rods are hard on ya for sure.

@@gillikinsisland man it was bad. We ended up with 11 crappie. 200 boats fished yesterday no one was really catching anything. I chased schools through the pile of boats zig zagging livescoping the ones we did catch. People were like dang you’re fishing fast 😂😂 I don’t like slow trolling hoping for a bite hahah. But yeah I washed mine two days ago. It’s dirty again. I have little shad scales on the floor. I caught one of shad in the net yesterday. But the crappie didn’t want to bite 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@AWOLfishing It always makes me feel better when other folks aren't catching them too. Crappie can be hard headed. When they don't want to bite, they won't. I put new line on my reels this morning. That's about as close as I got to fishing.

Gotta catch some shad when I get there and pre fish about an hour in a couple spots hopefully I can get on some that are hungry. I’ll update you tomorrow how it goes. Your fish are a lot bigger up there. Down here near the coast our crappie would tuck tail and run from a 1/8 oz head. I do need to try fishing under a cork some time. I might try that this Spring when they go to bed.

Yes they are! I am enjoying the President. I caught a 7lb sheepshead with it yesterday.

@@FishingKegan You get what you pay for. I'm sure both of those are very nice reel. I treat mine as if they are disposable because they typically break down after a year as much as I use them.

Very good to know. I may have to pick up the Penn 1000. That particular day I was using the 2000 and it was a little heavy for my taste. I know about the junkie reels. I've gone through a lot of those.

@@gillikinsisland Penn is upgrading the Fierce line from the Penn Fierce III to the Penn Fierce IV. I think the only difference is the handles on larger models are different and cosmetic paint is different. My Penn fierce III 1000 has a carbon drag system, 4 stainless bearings, heavy aluminum bail wire, aluminum body and handle, balanced rotor and a super line spool. The rotor is a plastic but good quality and does help cut down on weight. It weights 7.8 Oz, 5.2:1 gear ratio and holds 105 yds of 6 lb mono or 160 yds of 6 lb braid. I don’t think drag poundage is specified but I can basically lock the drag down, it’s more than you need from that size reel. I have 2 of them and they get smoother with use. Definitely not precision gears like Daiwa or Shimano. The Penn fierce III has been on sale right now and there is a price increase for the fierce IV. In my opinion for 50 to 70 dollar range the Pfluger president is the best built plastic body reel and the Penn fierce aluminum body, plus you can’t hardly find aluminum body reels anymore unless you buy a 30 yr old reel from eBay or pay 150.00 or more new. For a casting reel I like daiwa Legalis LT2000D, it’s not hard on the wallet and weighs 6.5 Oz, 5.2:1 gear, 5 bearing, 11lbs of drag (felt not carbon), 220 yds 6lb mono, and is extremely smooth gears and lightweight and smooth drag. The drag system does need a little oil once a year since it is not a carbon system. All these reels are crappie/panfish reels and I might have a different opinion on larger or different species reels.

Buy a bunch!
