He's seemed to always have a vendetta against cortex. Probably because hes treated him like shit for a long time and took credit for the evolvo ray. He's probably the one who made the last test chamber for Coco. I dunno why he's attacking you in the first game tho.
“Subject, do you think I’m too hard on N. Brio? I worry about him” *One month later* “I withheld N. Brio’s bathroom privileges until he got the recipe right”
"I mean why all that blood? Fossil fuels are much more efficient. You should replace yours like I did." I think it's safe to say that N.Gin has no humanity left in him.
The fact that N. Gin literally replaced his blood with oil is nothing compared to the missile lodged in his head. That’s probably the darkest tidbit of Crash Bandicoot lore.
Love how these tapes give Cortex a softer side than any of the other games. It’s cute how he developed a fatherly bond with Crash and Coco. I also find it funny how Dingodile was born because Cortex couldn’t choose between mutating just one dingo or one crocodile lol
It's been my headcanon for a while personally, they were both introduced in Crash 2, he was the only boss Coco fought in Warped, and they have the same kart specs in CTR, so I always figured it would make sense for Coco to be N.Gin's former protégée/student or something like that
So if crash 4 is about alternate timelines, and cortex was thinking about testing on a hedgehog, bobcat, and gecko... Is it possible that there’s a timeline where cortex went through on those experiments and therefore the Sonic universe, Bubsy universe, and Gex universe are all connected by Crash Bandicoot?
I always had this sort of headcanon that Dr Cortex and Dr Brio are responsible for creating the first Mobians in some universes where Mobius is Earth in the future and due to Fake Crash’s shenanigans with Dr N. Tropy’s tunic fork staff as shown in CTR NF’s Prehistoric Playground, he more or less put his DNA into the primordial soup where all of life would eventually come from. The Mobians who wouldn’t come about from this until a Gene-bomb left by an alien race intended to wipe out the human race on Earth inadvertently mutated and sped up much of the animal populations’ evolution process by millions of years to where they can exhibit the same amount of sentience as the humans. Much like Dr Cortex.
Dr. Robotnik: The hedgehog’s obsession with chili dogs is giving me a hankering. Snivley, bring me a chili dog. Snivley:B-b-but master, your cumin allergy… Dr. Robotnik: Oh it’s fine, you can clean it. Snivley: (Groans).
As mentioned before near the end of Coco's Flashback Tape Cortex did Indeed did make not just a regular Sonic Reference but also Bubsy and Gex all of all characters to get ever referenced In so long. Here at 7:52 to 7:57 N. Gin: *Calm and regular reaction of Coco's appearance and mistakes her as a cat* N. Gin (Titans/Mutants) *YOU DON'T EVER LOOK LIKE A BANDICOOT!!*
@@heyimlate5656 it make sense, because N Gine only got the rocket in adult hood, and Cortex ans Brio has not contact with him since they left the Academy of Evil. Just because it is a old friend, it doenst mean he cant interview him. However, the N.Tropy dialogue dont make any sense at all, unless he somewhat contacted Cortex between Crash and 2, altrough that makes things weird.
That “Team Health Analysis” joke with N. Brio slayed me, it ties in perfectly with the birthday card he was forced to buy himself and sign “From Cortex”. Also, I don’t know why, but this video made me realize another tragic failure in Cortex’s attempts to change the past. At the beginning of the first level, his past self is so focused on the “intrusive doppelgänger” that he doesn’t even TURN HIS FUCKING HEAD TO NOTICE THAT CRASHWORTH AND ANOTHER BANDICOOT ARE STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM IN HIS SEWERS!!! That hurts so bad, it’s funny.
7:19 I like the added lore implication that Cortex knew N Trophy before the events of 3. If anything I imagine N Trophy was checking up on Cortex at this time to make sure he was following the instructions that Uka Ukra had sent him while he was busy being trapped in his temple
It's an interesting new character trait that Cortex genuinely has some affection for Crash and Coco deep down, but is so prone to evil and selfishness that he can't help himself.
6:27 Dingodile's origins. 2023 edit: I no longer consider this canon, i wish it was N.brio who created him and this was just a throw away joke. Even then the flashback tapes contradicted alot of things that were established already. Like N.gins rocket.
[I've left this comment before, but I decided to copy-paste it here because of the updated vid] I remember that because I sucked/suck at Crash 4, there's a lot of stuff that I couldn't entirely complete, but I also remember that after watching stuff on RU-vid of the Flashback Tapes, I got all the backstory/characterization nuggets, but I couldn't find something where I could hear all the reactions to deaths, and I'd BE DAMNED if I didn't hear EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN AUDIO FILE of the character voices, so I had the motivation to make myself get enough of the tapes so I could get the reactions of all three of the bois.
Can you do a video of all the lines they all say in the middle of gameplay? Like Brio's speaking bottles. Or N gin's loudspeakers. Or cortex with his announcements etc
the only thing we're missing here is when Coco found Crash, even when we know the origins of both, we still don't have very clear how she suddenly appears with Crash on Crash 2
I don't understand why N. Brio is still working with Cortex after the Crash 1 game when N. Gin is now doing his job for him. N. Brio left by then, so why is he present for all of those after N. Gin comes in?
Is it ever explicitly stated that N.Brio left? Maybe N.Gin is just another helping hand rather than Brio's replacement. I mean, all these flashback tapes take place before Crash 2 and we know they're at odds with each other during that game. And 20 years passed between that game and Crash 4, for Cortex at least. Maybe they reconciled. Also, hi. Nice to see you here. I was a big fan of your videos back in the day :D
@@NPCarlsson Hello there! I was about to say that it was *I* who was a huge fan of yours! I play your Cortex songs all the time - it drives my girlfriend nuts! I'm still making videos here and there, I'm mainly focusing on reviewing my collection but I'll eventually make more animations. I've speculated before and tried to fill in some of the lore holes with my animation 'Why Tiny and Dingodile Worked For Cortex', and I was planning to do another one for N. Brio. We know that from the beginning N. Brio was shocked by Cortex's brilliance and wanted to follow him. Every time he failed Cortex he'd punish himself by voluntarily tightening the screws in his head. But when Cortex began to take all the credit for his improvements and inventions, N. Brio began to grow deeply jealous and filled with contempt for Cortex. At the end of Crash Bandicoot 1 it says, "After the disappearance of his mentor, Dr. Nitrus Brio rediscovered his first love: Tending bar". Then, the Crash 2 manual reads, "Double-crossed by Cortex, this one time partner in crime will now do anything to stop Cortex in his fiendish plans, regardless of the consequences" This leads me to believe that for at least a short time after Crash 1 they were estranged. Perhaps N. Brio located Cortex and tried to reunite with him, but was rejected, or N. Gin was invited to replace him which was the "Double-crossing". I had always thought that Brio was blamed for the failure of the Cortex Vortex as well as his inability to destroy Crash, and so was cast out by Cortex which sent him mad. This is why N. Brio turned against him in Crash 2 and tried to ally up with Crash. This all happened within a year, so I doubt N. Brio returned to Cortex castle and simply became friends with Cortex again like nothing had happened...and then decided to betray him? In one of the manga apparently N. Brio actually attacks Cortex and Crash and he's the one who burns down Cortex castle, after Cortex shoots him, by using the built in self-destruct. Though I can't find this scene in any of the manga I own - but that explains why Cortex castle is on fire and falling to pieces by the final boss. Although it's been suggested that N. Brio's monster form destroyed the castle by punching the floor which detonated some TNT below the castle. The game manuals and guides also refer to N. Gin as 'Cortex's new henchman' in Japanese. In Crash 4, 'Superior Study', N. Brio wants Crash to be his ally and he's running the experiment without Cortex and says "Say nothing of our plan!". It suggests he was plotting against Cortex from the beginning. However in the tapes there's no mention of N. Brio's betrayal, and he's even working with Cortex whilst N. Gin is there. But, we can't take this tape into consideration if we're looking at the original lore. I guess it's feasible that Cortex could have returned to Cortex castle, but in Crash 2 we see him in the space station version of the Cortex Vortex, suggesting that he's abandoned his old base and constructed a space ship to be as far from Crash as possible... This means the testing of Coco by N. Gin doesn't make much sense either, as they'd literally have nowhere to test or create their animal minions - that's the entire point of Crash Bandicoot 2! I had always assumed that N. Gin built the space station and Cortex was simply using it for his deeds. They don't have the ability to create henchmen and so they use Crash and Crash alone. Crash 4 suggests that this was all premeditated, like N. Brio was planning to be Crash's ally from the beginning and simply double crossed Cortex in Crash 2 because he wanted to overthrow him. The original lore has it that N. Brio is extremely devoted to Cortex, but as Cortex mistreats him and then casts him out (with the rest of his minions) for failing to defeat Crash, N. Brio finally snaps and turns on him. I prefer this version. I was planning to make an animation discussing this, so I'll keep you posted!
@@Carl_McMelvin Did you ever play Crash 2? It's all there. N. Brio works with Crash to destroy the Cortex Vortex. Also, I literally wrote an entire essay in the comments about "who said he left".
Lit. Titans was not bad at all. Sad this is I never finished it...yet; i do have and finished MoM. MoM is super Boss too, only thing is kinda short. I also love twinsanity and TTR, i sometimes play the songs from happily ever faster whenever cortex speaks in this game..it makes LOL 😂😂😂
@@keeferkifflom360 I've never said Crash of the Titans it's a Bad Game i said ITS A BAD CRASH BANDICOOT GAME here's an example, lets take a stealth Game like Metal gear Solid and lets make it a shooter action Game with no stealth at all, the Game may be Nice but as a METAL GEAR Game its really Bad You get it? Crash of the Titans change a platformer and turn it on a Beat 'n' up Game wich is basically horrible if You liked Crash bandicoot for THE MAIN REASON IT BASICALLY EXITS being a fun platformer with cartoon art style

Is there any chance if you can upload the voice clips from the “Robots” tie-in game? Fun Fact: Rodney Copperbottom is voiced by Jess Harnell (Crash Bandicoot), in that game.
@@NPCarlssonwell…yeah. I mean I’ve been playing crash bandicoot for a very long time now ever since nitro kart. And I thought the story and lore behind it was surprising.
@@bandicootcollector no it’s not. There are four real crash games. Two side games in CTR and crash bash. The rest are knock off crap, and any characters from said games are not real crash characters.
My guess is either N.Gin was aware of the missile but he simply was in denial or trying to ignore it until Cortex brought it up since its supposed to be very recently after his accident so he's probably still a bit sensitive about the subject. Or its a result of the damage to his brain making him forget or its the first sign of his sanity slowly slipping.
So it’s like heroic children standing up to their evil fathers, even though we don’t know Crash and Coco’s true parents. At least they have a nice father figure in Aku Aku.
Kind of weird that there is no mention of Tawna here despite being with Crash first before Coco, unless that "furry friend who has volume, shiny hair and that bounce" Cortex mentions at 5:32 is Tawna
