My band is playing in Amblare's release show (Which contains Bryan's last recordings) in Evansville next month and I came here to learn more about the dude since it's being done in his honor, thank you for doing this interview and sharing it with us.

Rest in peace Bryan. I didn't realize just how huge an influence you were on my drumming until I started recording with a band for the first time. Two years ago I moved to Charleston, an hour from Champaign, and my band is out of Urbana; had no idea how close I was to the home of Hum until I read the liner notes of Electra 2000. I think of Hum everytime I play & record. You will be dearly missed.

He is the master of playing behind the beat. I feel like that’s the key ingredient for the heaviness of Hum’s sound. Coupling that with the masterful blending of distortion guitar and bass and the trippy leads makes for a very unique sound almost impossible to replicate.

This was such a great interview. Thank you for making it happen. HUM was a massive influence on both my brother (drums) and myself (guitar). It was interesting to hear Bryan's thoughts on his playing and their albums.

You'd Prefer An Astronaut was a HUGE influence on me as a drummer. You know, he can talk about being a basher all he wants, but it was always the smaller, quieter, tastier stuff he did that I spent my time trying to learn.

I'd Like Your Hair Long is such an amazing display of his range. I'll never forget how blown away I was after seeing him perform that live in 98. The whole ending section where it's almost a bunch of amazing drum fills was reality altering.

@@carminelaiettav2315 don't even get me started on I'd Like Your Hair Long. The interplay between the 6/4 verses and the 6/8 choruses, that whole wind down into the last, tasty as fuck, low key chorus, the bombastic tag ending... I can't tell you how many hours I spent playing along with that song trying to learn all the licks. And at that tempo...

Bryan's passing is truly heartbreaking. Such a nice guy. I still have a stick he gave me at a Champaign show in 2011. Side note: it was great to hear you mention Rock Savage of Barkmarket. I never hear anyone mention Barkmarket, or even Dave Sardy, much less Savage.
