MrTremagnus I think they're gonna see how well the remasters do then they might consider it. Plus hopefully make some new Crash Games 😀 (wouldn't mind a remaster/port to current gen of Twinsanity)
Is it just me or does CTR beat any other kart racer in terms of sense of speed. The ability to snake and boost infinitely really gets the adrenaline pumping for drift junkies
What I love most about CTR is the sense of skill progression. Speaking from the perspective of somebody who has played several Mario Kart games for a few hours each, in Mario Kart it doesn't matter how good a driver you are, a noob player can still beat you because the Items are immensely powerful (though, a better driver will most likely win more games). In CTR the Weapons are not as powerful, meaning that a difference in driving skill weights much heavier. Also, because the weapons are much weaker, there are far less BS moments like Mario Kart tends to have, wheer you are just bombarded from first to last place.
@@TheCassiusTain In most Mario Karts i'd agree but in Mario Kart double dash skill matters, though some items of are powerful, most can be avoided either the way you can avoid them in most Mario Karts, red shells for instance can be escaped from by boosting after a drift at the right moment, in some areas, mostly uneven road they most often miss as they just bounce off the road leading to that you shooting the red shell has to think when to shoot it, items also cant be pulled behind the vehicle leading to that players cant be blocked by rows of bananas for instance which consequently means you also need to drop the banana peel at the right time so you dont get hit.
@@isakjohansson7134 I knew that the two Mario Kart games I never played (the other one being Wii) would come bite me in the ass about this comment ^^ Oh and I also never played 8 Deluxe until after writing this comment and I do fully believe that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe exceeds CTR in every way but the way drift boosts are handled and that it is, all things considered, the better game.
@@TheCassiusTain I dont mean that CTR is bad, i've never played it, all i meant was that not all mario karts are super reliant on items and are like throwing a dice, though mario kart Wii and 7 are extremely unfair in my opinion
Oh yeah. I remember some interview years back explaining that ND wanted to make Nitrus Oxide playable but couldn't because N. Oxide's assets had too large of a memory footprint to allow him to work in the rest of the game correctly. His boss area is smaller memory wise and built specifically for him, unlike the rest of the game.
they announced it really quietly on twitter, apparently. i had to search to find it. there's no video or anything and obviously everyone who shows up to this event is still going to be asking about him regardless. jontron was still on the main normalboots website up til this month.
I think they wanted to give you Nitros Oxide as a reward for beating all of his ghosts, but the thing is, his model size is larger than the regular racers. You can get him with cheats, but the game crashes (heh... Crash) if you try to use him in Versus races and even in some Time Trial tracks. The game doesn't know how to handle it, so they probably just decided "Eh, fuck this" and threw him aside.
Oxide was never intended to be playable. Actually Oxide was intended to be the least likable character in Crash history in an effort to hurt the brand to get back at Vivendi Universal for cheating Nuaghty Dog out of the rights to Crash.... it had the opposite effect as Oxide proved popular enough to become a canon character in future Crash titles like Crash Bash and Crash Twinsanity
im kind of baffled how mario kart gets such good ratings for having super casual bare bones gameplay with limited maps when games like this offered a shit ton more
"You'll never really find yourself humming to them" Ah, I disagree. I unconsciously hum the most iconic themes, at least 1-2 from every iteration Naughty Dog did like Warped's Toad Village or ending theme, Crash 2's bear chase levels, Crash 1's first levels' themes, and so on. In fact I was just humming the theme for CTR's first "world" for its campaign lul.
This game has a hardcore fanbase in my country, 'till this day there are lots of CTR tournaments, videos and a solid community, this game requires a lot of skill to dominate, but is also enjoyable for casual play. Nice video Jirard.
in my opinion, one of the best games of all time. very underlooked, extremely fun, very deep, tons of content, awesome 1 player experience, awesome multiplayer and the map design is just....inspired ,really really REALLY good game.
Hate to break it to ya Jirard, but the Relic Time Trials came back, and are now actually a part of all 3 titles in the trilogy remake. And yes, there are trophies associated. I'm sure we'll all pray for you when the time comes for you to cross that road. =P But hey, on the upside, each game comes with its own platinum trophy!
I'm watching this video and trying so hard to find my CTR disk because I never played it to completion and there are so many things I literally didn't know you could unlock.
As someone in the CTR community, one thing we can agree on is Oxide Trails are considerably harder then regular time trails, they cant even be compared, so this kind of makes me question whether or not you actually did all of them
Wow, the mystery is finally laid to rest: you can't unlock Oxide. The game always taunted me because I did everything in the game except beat the Oxide time trials (they were impossible for me for some reason even though I beat all the platinum relic races and all the N. Tropy time trials without TOO much trouble) and everything I read online said that you unlock Oxide for beating the time trials. I always felt I'd have to return to the game someday and actually do those time trials to get Oxide, but now that I know for certain that you don't get him for beating his time trials, I can rest easy knowing I did all I care to do in that game. Thank you for this review, Jirard. I appreciate what you do very much.
Holy crap! 20 years later mt brain still has those tracks memorized... O_O I never completed Adventure mode, but i sure had fun trying :D Also, the Tiger is cutest, which is why I chose her as my Adventure mode races :P Thanks for the trip down memory lane Jirard ^_^
I love the secret passages the most in CTR. I wish that more cart games did this. I mean bombing a wall for a short cut is awesome. The vast amount of bombs you get in Mario Cart would make more sense with other uses for them then fodder when you are in the first three places.
Crash Team Racing is the greatest racing game I've played. I haven't played much for while because my friends gave up after losing against me many times.
Two reasons: One was that Normal Boots realized that their site was extremely disjointed with their creators and content. They weren't collaborating enough and it seemed like Normal Boots was going to dissolve (again). So they met up and decided that they should commit to collaborations and projects. Jontron said that his only focus is the Jontron Show, so he would not work on these projects. The other reason is Bad Press from expressing rather controversial views on Twitter. Identity Politics mostly.
Always wondered where the Team in CTR came from though. Teamwork played no deciding factor in victory, though I guess *Crash Racing* didn't sound as exciting.
Good question. I can only assume he is on hiatus. If my memory is correct, I thought he was still a part owner of the site, but I could be wrong on that.
normalboot's collective brain cells and entertainment power was halved when Jon left, and he hasn't made a video in 6 months. 4/5 of what's left belongs to Jirard. the whole group would've gone under years ago without jirard, he's the hardest working guy on yt.
in case anyone doesn't know, you don't have to get platinum relics to get the true ending, any relics will do (the only difference is that you'll have 100% instead of 101%)
Those time trials remind me of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Those expert ghosts are brutal. But I beat them all, and I destroy almost every race, be it against expert bots or online... I love that game.
Hey Jirard. If you're looking for a game to complete that's not that long, even when trying to complete it, I recommend The Sexy Brutale. Seriously, it's a good game. Go complete it.
you beat all the oxide times? i respect your skill, i found the hard way that oxide was not unlocable by doing so years ago, and these tracks are infuriating, i remember once being defeated by oxide by a freaking milisecond in one of them (the one were you fight ripper ru in the story) anyway ctr is a great game, i hope that they remaster it.
I've completed this game before, and while I agree that there's not a lot that you get for beating the most difficult challenges that CTR throws at you (I'm lookin' at you, time trial mode.), for me at least, the satisfaction comes from overcoming the challenge itself. Though after all of the Completionist episodes I've watched, I'm well aware that that's not something Jirard and I share
Dude, the Oxide times and Platinum times are based on best times set by the QA team. Been that way since the Platinum relics in Crash 3. You were asking for a bad time trying to beat them. That's why I don't go after them.
I rented CTR from two different video stores as a kid and both times the game was scratched beyond repair. I never got to play it. Maybe now is a good time to go back
To the many stating "platinum relics aren't difficult" - let me correct that for you. "Platinum relics aren't difficult to ME" Different people possess different levels of skill that cap out at different heights. Don't be a dick about it.
Mh, i do not believe you beat Oxide in each stage in under 90 hours the first time you ever touched this game. Okay, i was a 8 year old kid back then, but it took me so much longer than anything else i have ever done to reach a goal!
2 things about that beginning announcement. 1. I guess Jontron's too busy to attend that NormalBoots night. 2. DID YOU USE THE PC VERSION OF SONIC 3'S CARNIVAL NIGHT ZONE FOR MUSIC?!? WHAAAAAT?!?!
Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy releases today yet we're still waiting for all the PS2 Jak & Daxter games to be ported to PS4. Sony announced it back in April and we've had no update on it since then.
There was a time when I couldn't beat Oxide ghost times without using PAL benefits of Penta Penguin. Nowadays I can shit on all of his times with Dingodile.
I almost want a completionist's review on some other racing games like Lego Racer 1 and 2, and Disney's Magical Racing Tour. All of my childhood racing games... xD
It's the first episode with wich I disagree on the conclusion. When you're competing for the trials in this game you get a whole new level of gameplay which makes u look differently at all the races, with new and amazing shortcuts and boost technics. It's definitly a game to complete because once completed it doesn't feel like the same game you played for 30 hours before. Mastering this game takes for ages.
I unlocked all the bonus characters, including N. Tropy. I beat CTR Adventure 101%. I unlocked all the bonus battle arenas. But goddamn it I can't beat a single Nitrous Oxide ghost!!! HOW DID YOU DO IT JARED?!?! ...and then say it was easier than the platinum relics :c
I think it would be cool if you showed the title screen of the game your completing that week in your intro where it shows you squaring off with it instead of secret game Jirard! I know its probably extra work that you dont need, but it makes me think youre completing Zelda every week every time I see that in your intro lol
To be completely honest, I would've much preferred the Crash Racing Trilogy to be remastered over the platform games. Anything to get CTR back in my life.
I love this game, but I'll admit right now I never bothered with platinum relics or time trials. The game gives you at least 100% and the detailed ending without them. I think I even got 101% without them, but it's been long enough that I don't remember now.
