Horrible crash with a truck. My friends are alright but the Van, their home, is heavily damaged, leaking coolant and the full front is deformed. 1800km of Police Escort through Pakistan, 10h riding days with little to no breaks. Something was bound to happen. But now what? Will they get it fixed again? Looks to me like it’s totalled but you never know what mechanics can do if they work their magic but who is gonna pay for it? I can’t hang around I have to move on to Lahore since I already booked my accommodation but first I have to get rid of the freakin‘ police…

Can’t even imagine what it’s like being pushed so hard, in such trying conditions. The whole reason you go on journeys like this is for the freedom to follow your own path, so this type of harassment (even if it’s well meaning) would feel oppressive and stressful.

Marc, it was clearly a very charged and highly charged moment, but you can't blame the police. Rufus was the driver and, with any driver, on any road, in any country the driver is ultimately responsible. He knows this, and is taking care of the situation. The police were there, for a reason, take is it easy mate..
@DefiantAML
@DefiantAML 9 месяцев назад
I don't know about that, it kind of is their fault for pushing them constantly for so long. Its stressful and builds up over time till something bad happens. They should have backed off and followed from a distance. Unseen or unheard. IF something bad were to happen, like a car jacking or something, that's when the police should make their presence felt. Not constantly pushing them to go faster and further with lights and sirens, like its a canon ball run or something. Mark is a tourist and wants to explore Pakistan, not race through it as fast as possible.

Completely agree with this comment, driver rear ended another vehicle. Responsibility lies with the driver, calm down Marc, you overreacted on this one.
@Ole-Endurance
@Ole-Endurance 9 месяцев назад
Somehow difficult situation. On one hand yes the driver is responsible on the other hand typically the police is there with multiple persons in a group talking to you & pushing you. Yes they somehow help on the other hand they want to get rid of your pushing your to the next section border, so the next group of police has to take over the "risk". "Staying calm" you manage one maybe to days then you get annoyed and I would also tend to become aggressive. We are not used to such (from our perspective) unlogic and nonsense behavior. They always telling you that the protect you but in many cases if you ask "protect for what" they need to find reason. I heard even reason like, bad street, it might become cold in the night etc. pp This kind of protection you do not really need as a experienced traveler. I think you can only try to escape for a while (until they pick you up at next checkpoint) or accept how it is, relax but also partially simply ignore their request. If you want to rest then rest - they will start to argue but after 15min they will accept and camp next to you (but they will not leave you). Becoming upset and blaming them does not help - depending on your counterpart it make it even far worse - I would not like to end in jail there ... I know one case a motor biker crashed into such a truck (similar situation as in your vid) - but the biker died :( so be careful.

As frustrating as all the escorts must be mate I don't think you can blame them for the crash. I guess they just dont want you to come to any harm so you just have to play along and get out of the country asap. They were at the back and I think rufus just lost concentration and failed to see that truck ahead of him for some reason. As long as everyone is OK material thinks can be fixed. Ride safe 🙏

As you being a tourist I think you have quite a big mouth to the police, especially in a foreign country like Pakistan. You seem to think it’s getting personal with these police men: think again…these people don’t wake up to happily escort you as if that’s their lifegoal. They do what they must or are ordered to do. You look extremely frustrated, which is completely fine, but don’t expect sympathy, the majority here doesn’t sympathise with your behaviour and you might do something with that (or not 😂) BTW: I don’t think anyone really cares if your friend was overtaking or not - it’s your attitude and your need to blame anyone but your friend. Would you be yelling like that when your friend in Germany crashed? I personally don’t think nor hope so. And Germany isn’t Pakistan….

Marc, you are wrong. So very wrong. You are not old enough to remember the black September terror group that invaded the olympic village in Munich in the early seventies and did a few other mischiefs around Europe. You have lived a peaceful life in a peaceful country. This has made you bold and adventurous. Now you are in Pakistan which is a very different place and black September are children in the kindergarten compared to the terror groups that operate out of Afghanistan and into Pakistan in this day and age. After watching half your video I diverted and googled terror attacks in Pakistan over the last few months. There were 99 attacks in September alone with significant loss of life, well over a hundred killed (excluding terrorists). I've tried to find more figures for subsequent months but found that there are too many to count and it's not yet fully collated...The figures of police and military killed are in the hundreds. In any event the level of attacks is significantly higher than it was a year ago. You should be extremely grateful that you are receiving a police escort through the country and I should not be surprised if they insist on escorting you all the way to your exit border crossing. Those police do not particularly want to escort silly tourists, they have other more important things to be getting on with, but equally they do not want your death in their country to complicate matters for them. I also feel you are setting yourself up as a potential target. Ranting and raving at them is not the way to thank them or Pakistan for protecting you as much as they possibly can. You owe them and Pakistan in general, a significant apology for your behaviour and your comments in recent videos. The police have been very tolerant of your attitude towards their goodwill. Time to eat some humble pie, say a big sorry, a big Thank you and thank your lucky stars you are still alive.

Interest grew and I went back to his videos from Iran - interesting and several very watchable. Unfortunately, the videos from Pakistan drastically change this positive initial image. Hasn't the good Marc made himself comfortable in acquiring some kind of knowledge of the conditions of the country! Several different terrorist organizations have over a large number of months carried out bloody terrorist attacks, not least against the police. To hear his constant lamentation against those who risk their lives to keep him alive is astonishing and shocking. Marc really should apologize to all the police officers who really went out of their way to protect him!!

I feel the agony of Rufus as he rolled in the dirt. Frustrating as it must be Marc, it was fortunate that you had a police escort because the lorry driver would have got away and the truck would have been left in the road to fend for itself. That accident would have happened with or without the police at some point. Just look at the mayhem on the roads - they see the smallest gap and go for it regardless of the circumstances.

The frustration over the last few days with the police escort has certainly built up but in the case of the accident, I don't think they were to blame in any way. On the other hand, driving on “so called free road” like this requires lots of attention, and safe distance since your friend hits the truck from behind means you don’t have that distance. 'fraid Rufus has to take this one, drive to the capability of the brakes, the traffic is unpredictable so one has to keep a good braking distance, no matter what the rules of the road is in any country, it's down to the driver to know what the vehicle is capable of, from speed, to handling, to braking and stopping. Much like yourself and Rufus, I've travelled all over, and bottom line is, one has to take care of oneself, and that starts with never driving, tired, ill or upset, then it's down to tyres, brakes, lubricants and drive (motor and final). Never let the day get away from you, 'cos we only ever have the moment we are living through and experiencing. The past is memory, the future never arrives, this moment is all.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.. but when in Pakistan, expect everyone else to act European? You do not have the right attitude, my friend, and that's precisely why the cops have been escorting you. They know it's only gonna be a matter of time before you find trouble, and you proved them right! The accident was purely Rufus's fault, as he did not maintain enough distance between himself and the truck he rammed into. I know you're disappointed about your trip not turning out the way you expected, but are you aware of how much of an inconvenience your presence has caused those cops? I don't think they enjoy escorting you around, but they probably don't have the means to ensure your safety any other way. Seeing how you acted after a simple traffic incident (no life or limb lost) of your own making, imagine what would've happened in a more severe situation if the cops weren't there to protect you from the mob! The international press would have a field day for a few days and it'll be those beat cops who'd have to face the brunt of it. Show some humility and gratitude my friend, you're being treated way better than any non-Pakistani would be, if they were in your place.

The reason is tourists have been targetted in unfortunate terrorist attacks. The policeman are following orders from thier seniors, many also do not speak English which can further cause problems. The Englishman was clearly at fault as he tried to overtake and was involved in a crash. Be greatful the police was there at the scene as they were able to get help from locals to move the damaged vehicle and get in contact with skilled lical mechanics to fix it, otherwise the Englishman and his son would have been stranded there in the busy road for several days.

Marc just stop with covering up for Rufus , it could have been avoided if he paid attention. I saw in other videos how he drives, he is reckless. It is just a wonder that it didn't happened earlier. But I get the frustration, and I know that being pushed and being tired doesn't help to be more careful while driving. Stay safe and be calm my youtube " friend "

Hello again , Accidents are there to happen!! Good to see nobody physically was damaged as you said, the whole idea was to keep you guys safe ! Not pushing you towards danger!! Anyways it is done now, I am also following the friendly truck videos being your friends and know things are going well for them, but please know that we all are your friends here too wherever we are and wish our good hearted friend Marc all the joy and a safe journey to the final destination. Looking forward to your next video

Blame is linked to psychological stress, I'm sure you've already take a step back. Just keep in mind that Policemen in other countries don't keep their cool like the Pakistanis, stay out of trouble even under stress

Typical European attitude. Blaming everyone but never accept own mistakes.
