Yup, I'm Crashing on a Stranger’s Couch in beautiful Porto, Portugal. Have you ever heard about Couchsurfing? That's what I did. Porto is one of the cutest towns in Europe. People here are super close and friendly to each other. I spent 6 days in total in Porto. Even though the town is pretty tiny and there's not much to see I never got bored with walking around, especially in the old part of the town. You'd think traveling solo and staying in one place for a long time would be monotonous, but not when you are a couchsurfer and meet friendly people who show you around.

The instrument your host played is a harpsichord. It is kind of an ancestor to the piano, popular in the 1600s to early 1700s. The main difference is that the strings of the harpsichord are plucked by little devices inside it called plectrum. String of a piano are hammered. Also, a piano had three strings for each hammer. You use the pedals on the piano the dampen or stop one or more strings from vibrating which allows the piano to make soft sounds, loud sounds, or sustain the one note while other keys are played.

Thanks, Porto looks so interesting in old cultural sort of way. My Portuguese instructor recommended Lisboa and so I went there instead. Also a lot of culture and history but on a very grand scale. I think I would have enjoyed the cosy nature of Porto that has come across for me in your video. Take care.

It was not that they didn't "dare" to confront him with the facts, it was a weird and very Portuguese version of Christian charity - they just didn't want to hurt his feelings. Salazar was by then a frail old men that those with power had decided to replace because he was no longer fit for the job. He no longer had any power and they were definitely not afraid of him.

Hi Diana! I'm planning my first solo trip outside my home country and I was wondering, I've heard a lot about Couchsurfing some amazing stories and some not that good, how do you choose your host? Do you go just for the vibe, or is there a way to know what kind of people you will stay with? For me the idea is a little bit scary any advice? Thank you!!

Hey Josefina! So great that you’re planning a solo trip 🥰🥹 You’re going to LOVE it! About couchsurfing - I know how the idea might sound scary but if someone has more than 15 positive reviews and you also like the vibe, there’s a very little chance of something going wrong. If they have: 1. 15+ reviews 2. 10+ pictures 3. Nice smile 😂 4. And reply fast enough, that person seems nice and I go with them. If you are worried about staying at somebody’s place right away, there are people who want to meet travelers and show them around, so you can start with that and then see how it goes.

Yeh, I was told that some men do couchsurfing and even go to the events just to meet women, crazy idea, but these men are obviously desperate. Some women prefer to couchsurf with women hosts only though.

Sometimes it’s really hard to find a female host. Couchsurfing is 95% male dominated

@@dianawanderlust I'm a male, never found a host really, most people who are available to meet just ignore me too, but sometimes I find and make friends with someone who wants to hang out. Usually just use hostels or even a hotel if I have too, the events are usually a great place to meet and talk.
