After more than a century, an isolated population of endangered bull trout in Crater Lake National Park is finally reconnected to the rest of their original range.
To do that, scientists and conservationists re-created a stream that had been redirected for irrigation more than a century ago.

Please pass my gratitude on to the land owner/water rights owner without whose support this wouldn't have happened. And much gratitude to the civil servants in the Park Service for their vision and dedication. Here's hoping that the vision is fully realized!

Thanks so much for producing this video. Huge respect to those who've dedicated their careers- giant chunks of their lives-to saving this bull trout population.

Really enjoyed the way these people talking. So calm, slow and quiet. You can't hear that intonation in a big city these days

In Colorado we have the endangered cut throat trout, which has had similar struggles.

A question for fish data-crunchers: The most recent population number provided was from 1999-21 years ago. Are more recent figures available?

Due to budget cuts USFS decided it would just be easier to just sterilize the creek

We have the bull trout situation in hand.....how dare the bull trout be less tenacious than the brookie....

Hopefully they are committed to heavily stocking those bull trout because if there are no fish to catch somebody will just dump brook trout or rainbows in that creek again.

Been working on restoring the bull trout for 25 year?! If it has taken 25 years it doesn't sound like you are on track. Thank you though.

The less man try’s to play God, the better wildlife will be.

Is man playing God by diverting the stream for irrigation or by putting it back the way God intended?

Why does PBS insist on editing these videos to be the most boring visually? It’s like there is a deal with all PBS affiliates. This is really cool and interesting but looks like it was made in 1998. Was this actually made in the 90s and just being shown now?
