When I lived in Louisiana I would use a string and tie a piece of bologna and get lots of crawfish that way

I grew up in Pdx OR and we used to take trips to Bonneville all the time. One time a kid was tryin to Be cool and was bouncing on the rocks at edges of Sturgeon pool and fell in. His look at me Im “cool” came to Jesus REAL QUICK as he was scrambling to get out. I’ll never forget that. Total HILARIOUS moment!

Awesome video Kelly. The biggest sturgeon I ever caught was 49 inches. But a guy I used to work with fished them commercial in the St Lawrence River a long time ago ( before I was born) and told me 18-20 ft was not uncommon

brought 1 up on the ice on the red river 49" sturgeon 6 pound line ,2 ft ice rod they r so rare in the winter , through the ice not as big , but thats my fish of a life time

I would have used some bait that was more solid, and to add keep the traps out of the current. They don't want to fight the current to eat 😏

Jumping in the Columbia in the Spring? Not a fan of hypothermia, so I'll pass. LOL Definitely made for a cool pic, though! Edit: As far as jumping, they free jump too. Have seen some monsters jumping without a boat around anywhere. And around The Dalles Dam is a good place to see them do so. Also? I've seen the toxicology reports on Columbia River sturgeon biopsies. Yeah....they taste good, but not the best things to be eating unless you like industrial chemicals in your diet.

You were so close to the Island Vancouver Island to bad bit early for halibut but salmon, steelhead (my fave) prawns, crab are really good right now. If huge sturgeon are what you want go fish the Fraser River in Vancouver.

Hi Kelly. Those fish are incredible. Congrats of catching some. I grew up on Lake Erie. A very long time ago Surgeon roamed the lake as a dominant fish. Commercial fishing and dams built just about wiped them out but they finally banned the fishing to save the species. There are still Surgeon in the lake but not in the numbers they used to be. In Suwanne river Florida they are like 5-6 footers or more and they jump and hit and injure people in boats

Damn. I was hoping to see a crawdad catch and cook. Fish carcasses work better than cat or dog food, and until the water gets warmer, you need a long soak.
