It's not the end of the world to have a losing season. Just suffered through a terrible Syracuse season, but I'm giving Coach Boeheim some space to turn it around. Adversity builds character. So give Coach Payne your support and hang in there. Better times ahead for you Cardinals.
I’m a UK fan, but I’m also a Kentucky fan of “all teams” of our state. I hope things can turn around for U of L and we can be proud of them and have that good old rivalry of past. Our season @ UK hasn’t really been so great to our standards in years past.
Kenny Payne is a class act. I'm a fan and a his character is unmatched but Louisville is not a 1st year new coach destination. That's a major failure of the AD. You go after the best of the best for this job. There's only a few jobs in the country like this and obviously the new leadership at UofL forgot to research that.
What coach would want to come to a program not knowing how the NCAA was going to punish the department. Kenny was of few willing to take the challenge. Let's not forget the timing of the hire and when the ruling officially came out. I'll admit that he is probably learning a few things as a first time HC, but I think Eric said it right, the wheels had already fallen off the bus when he got there.

Sadly, IMO will all be here on Eric's channel having a conversation come year 3. No 20 win seasons and no NCAA tournament appearances. The AD is sticking with KP at least 3 yrs. It would take a epic class of talent the next 2 yrs just to compete by yr 3 and what I've seen so far from the coaching box doesn't impress by the lack of hustle and toughness on display each game. Also factor in we're an Adidas school. Trying to recruit against Nike schools & the Nike NIL brand. That is going to be a tough obstacle to overcome in itself.
As a UK fan I have to say y’all are ridiculous give this man time he is a winner if you quit getting cheaters you don’t have to worry about the NCAA. You have a good coach he will win if you give him a chance his own fanbase jumping on him shows real fans why you haven’t been good in a decade. @@gregnally4869 Rick won 2 titles, one at KY, one at Louisville in 2013. You can say it was removed, but since Rick was exonerated from all wrong doing, don't be surprised if the NCAA gives it back. Don't you watch the news? Rick not only was exonerated, he also took it to court and won. Rick was done wrong by UofL, so was Tom Jurich. It all had to do with 2 board of directors that the governor put on UofL staff. The governor was a BIG UK FAN. Do your homework. I personally think the UK didn't like UofL dominating in every sport and UK became little brother. Say what you want, too much evidence to disprove.
Great piece Crawford!& it’s obviously very depressing am 38 years.been a Cardinal sense 1984, it hard to watch , & it’s obviously coaching, talent is there , but to Kenny credit he has know head coaching experience! Look give him this year but he should take the initiative out of love for the University of Louisville, where he went to school and step down. It’s not quitting you should just step down. This is a top seven job. We deserve better.
I don't think this is funny, I bleed Blue and the UKvsUL game to me is one of the most important games of the year. We play for bragging rights but there will be no bragging beating this team. I love KP, don't get mad at him for losing with Chris Macks players. I Seem to remember last season Mack saying the same thing, there's no fight in them and they won't run the plays I give them. Give KP a chance and if ya still don't want him after the 23/24 season, we'll take him back!

These kids (I don't think there is a 25 year old like Stetson Bennett on the team) came to this program in spite of the scandal around it. Fan fallback when losing is they gave up. No. They're just not that good. But maybe some sophisticated strategy can make them more competitive. Maybe a full house at Yum cheering them on could bring out something magical in the team. Terrible fan base. Fact.
The fans that yell at other fans on how to be a fan are probably the worst type of fan..I’m a fan of hip hop but I don’t go to every concert or buy every album..let people support how they want it’s nobody’s fault the kids are struggling they should want to win for themselves maybe that’s a lesson they need to learn that praise is earned and worked hard for not givin because you wear a uniform and show up..

Honestly I was fine losing by 1 not nec to the teams we were losing to but they faught and came back and the reason we lost was because of different segments of the game they gave up. But at the end they faught. Now we are just losing by 30 every night and that is a very bad thing.
KP has reiterated that ‘ they just need a win’. I think they probably knew it would be a hard season expected to win those first three. Then they expected some confidence maybe to grow in the guys from that. But it didn’t happen and now every team is any where from a good to pretty great teams in the top25. There isn’t really any way for them to cut their teeth on anyone similar to first three games. I’ve seen how it is for teams that struggled in the acc and the big East when we were in that. This is pretty much a done season at this point. If they can just get to where we compete hard the majority of the game don’t lose by 20 I think it would honestly be a breath of fresh air. I wouldn’t feel so bad if we got beat by under twenty and had some periods where we kept things competitive. Or atleast fail with valor.
As much as any coach deserves a few years to rebuild and implement their systems and recruit their types of players fully, I think the empty seats in the Yum are gonna speak louder than anything else -- that revenue loss is gonna be the key dictate of Coach Payne's future.
Players got to play and execute...that is what it comes down to. I doubt Kenny is coaching this team much different than any other team he has been involved with as far as basic ways to play the game. Most of the time when there are "effort issues" in the way the team plays, the coach can only keep repeating themselves and trying to get through but at the end of the day, players got to play, end of story

UK fans made this mess. You had a UK fan governor put 2 people on UofL's board of directors that had Tom and Rick fired. They were sick UofL was dominating in all sports in KY and the nation. Payne was just an assistant coach, he shouldn't be in a leadership role if he can't motivate his team. It's like he just shows up for a paycheck, no excitement on the sideline or anything. Why should the team try if Payne doesn't try! Why should a player want to transfer or sign to Louisville with a winless record!!! Learn from the lady cardinals!!!!
What’s happening inside Yum mirrors what’s going on outside. The jail and police going haywire, Lincoln Bridge deserted by drivers, restaurants boarded up, fake bombs planted, TARC unreliable, shootings of pedestrians, tent cities, recycling efforts floundering, city pensions unpaid. We used to watch basketball to forget our problems. Now the Cards remind us of them with each blowout loss.
It's just so sad it's not like there's lots of sports options here at least a team that looks like they're trying and is somewhat competitive.im not seeing that and I certainly have no answers.apparently Kenny doesn't either.i don't think they could beat a solid high school team the people of Louisville don't deserve this.
It's hard to watch. The problem is that they aren't even trying. Or well it appears that they aren't. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a player get down on the floor and fight for a 50/50 ball. Does that fall on the players or the coaches. I feel he's gotta get them to understand if you're not gonna hustle then you aren't gonna play. He's benched curry, who was basically our best player to finish out the year last year and should take that approach with the others. If you don't run back on defense then you can walk your ass back to the bench. Transition is killing up because we don't hustle to get back on defense. Again you can't force someone to hustle. But if they aren't gonna hustle then they shouldn't be on the court
@@garygable4170 Yes, Kentucky has had a few pathetic seasons under Calipari. Any season that UK doesn't at least vie for a Final 4 is a season that wasn't even worth putting a team on the court. No matter how bad UK was, UK didn't lose the quad-4 types of games repeatedly. While I enjoy seeing UL lose and lose badly, I do feel a little bad for the UL fanbase. I know that they love their team and do not deserve what they are being given. Since UL is a top 20 all-time program, they should have peaks and valleys-not peaks and mammoth canyons.

better players would have given a few wins. But Kenny is a derivative of Cal. and Cal is not a good floor coach. Cal lives and dies by his premium talent. we have seen what happens to KY when Cal doesn't have top talent. Payne is just an extrapolation of Cal with zero talent. In my opinion, Cal has now hosed both programs. Hopefully KP realizes his deal and tries to learn another way. If he picked up Cals stubbornness and arrogance then he and Louisville are screwed.
As a uk fan..this is a chicken shit way to look at your team. 8 games in and your season is over? Your in one of the perenially best conferences in the country. You have young men on this team who can learn how to win!! Come on!!

I think right now, below average would be acceptable (like 10 wins at this point) knowing that a good class would be coming in this year and next. But as of Feb. 7th, the team is facing 3-21, 2 high school recruits from Chris Mack's class, no new recruits under KP yet other than the transfer portal, and couldn't reel in the grandson of one of your coaches. Let's say he gets 2 more years and there are crappy classes in 2024 and 2025 and then he is fired? You are looking at 2026 or 2027 before you can start to fix this. The fanbase will be non-existent then.
I'm a Uof L Fan, and I can honestly say this Team does not look good at all this Year. It might be probably one of the worst starts I have seen at least in a very long time anyhow. I have been a UofL Fan for many Years too, and I think this might be one of the worst starts that I have seen for a UofL Basketball Team.
