Just a heads up if you set it up with crawler reverse, the brake curve actually is your reverse throttle curve. Makes reverse much more manageable while keeping it at 100%
Playing with my new Mamba Micro X today and I discovered that there is a solution to the touchy reverse that is inherent to the stock Enduro motor. You don't even need to upgrade the Tx/Rx. It turns out, Mr. Holmes, that the brake curve is not exclusively for braking. It is just a general reflection of how the truck will behave when engaged in either brake or reverse. So, the reverse curve can be programmed just the same as the throttle curve. Fancy that?!
I just Got My 2 Mamba X system, put it in My scx10 Pro and i just done with setting it up.. As you say, that throttle curve is tricky, But it Will work after 3-4 try’s😅 And i Love the Mamba X in My Crawler..!!!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation of this! I would have been confused by most of those terms. Just got my castle mamba X crawler combo with the 1900kv. I’m impressed with how it performs even out of the box! Only thing I had to do was set motor direction to reverse in the transmitter programming mode. But this will take it to the next level. I’m only on 2S right now, so I’m sure these settings are especially useful if on 3S or higher.
I just bought the same combo for my Capra kit. Im hoping it gives me the really slow crawl im looking for. Im putting a 11t pinion on the motor as well.
Thank you my RC brother 🤜🤛 Im planning on winning the mamba x & puller pro thru the Harley giveaway so this will be very useful 👍🏻 im using the power of positive thinking 💯😂🤣
Thanks John refresher and explanation is always aprished ....I never change my motor timing setting I will do this right away to see how it works .....I see also you did not use the auxiliary wire setting I am surprised I always set mine to crawler break so I can switch on and adjust the amount of drag break I fine this very useful....
For a relative novitiate like me, It's a pleasure having things explained as succinctly you do. However; some added 'close-up' camera shots on where & what and you're doing would only prove more invaluable with your lessons.
I’m assuming a puller pro 2700kv will play nice with the mamba x? Finally just received your motor in the mail after 4 weeks of waiting. I’m excited to finally experience your puller pro in action in my Capra. Great video by the way it’ll help me a lot in setting it up
That tape bit freaked me the f out. I've been there, but I am sober now. I actually had a notification that FB took a pic with my mobile camera without my permission while I was chilling in RU-vid while taking a poo.
This is definitely low speed specific. I tried this exact setup but for trailing it doesn’t workout for me. Going to tweak it a bit from here but great starting point
Thanks John. That is really helpful. Would you mind putting together a similar video for the HW Quicrun1080 or post good crawl settings somewhere? Thanks again.
I know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Armani Frank i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Hey! Greetings from UK. Great channel with a wealth of information and useful tips.. I need some advice. My rig is a TRX4 Defender (everything stock) and I run 3s Lipos (5000 for when I go out and about and 1400 for crawling indoors technical lines). I have purchased a 7.4v servo but haven't fitted it yet because I haven't bought a Bec yet and I have decided to upgrade the engine and esc to a Mamba X and censored rock crawler combo. Now one question is about the power of the engine. 1900, 2200 or 2850kv? I don't want to add more top speed when I am trailing, maybe a little punch to do some slides, or when crawling? Another question has to do with the voltage of the new servo which is 7.4v. Since the rig has 3 more servos all 6v and I imagine the radio is also 6v, I need a separate Bec? is the castle 10a a good option? Btw it is also on my list to get the Castle link to set the esc and eventually the Bec. Any help would much appreciated. Thank you.
Ok I set it up just like you did on my traxxas trx4 with a Holmes hobby 2700kv puller pro and a barely any throttle it vibrates and shutters my connections are good
Nice video.Very well explained Now if I can just get one of your 540 revolver motors in stock I would be a happy man.I been trying to get one for months now.
Hey John Holmes i hav3 a super important question i have a brand new castle creations mamba x esc and a link, i have a brand new Holmes hobbies puller pro v2 2700kv stubby and my esc isn't making any audible noise or beeps the rsc was unopened new from a shop and the motor was opened at a different shop, with yellow shrink tune on the motor bullets and i. Thinking it has been used, and its toast. Do you thinj thats the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Recently had my mamba monster x stop working will not hook up to castle link on the PC so I am asoming esc is fried esc will not power up. 1800kv revolver on 4s. In your opinion what may have happened? Esc never has gotten how have low gears also have over under in ar60's. At this point I need a new esc what would you buy?
I use slow or very slow for drag brake. It's instantaneous when crawling at low speeds, but at high speeds it puts the brake on, slow, like I do. Fast setting makes my truck crash going downhill.
Awesome info. Can i use settings like this on the brushed motors using the mamba x and mamba micro x? Im running brushed right now until the puller pro v2 3500kv is in stock again
Thanks for a great video. I have Mamba X ESC but the drag brake is not on (or working). Do I need the Castle Link V3 USB Programming Kit P-CC011-0119-00 or a different link lead pls?
When John says "You need a computer" he means you need a Windows based computer! Castle does not offer a MAC/IOS version of the programming software, for computers. They do have an app but without the add on Bluetooth adapter you can not program a Castle ESC.
When you set the BEC, to the higher voltage, is it the radio (meaning the controller in your hand) or the receiver on the truck that is the issue. Also does it matter with a battery powered servo.
Different radios don't all have the same maximum BEC Voltage so I would think you would match that with the maximum voltage on your receiver. Or whatever you have your receiver voltage set too 👍
I have the mamba x with your puller pro stubby brushless motor and I programmed it the same way and it is jumpy in reverse but works fine going forward what did I do wrong?
Hi John so I got a sidewinder 4 esc with a 6900kv sensored brushless motor all programed in my Bomber it's wicked fast in the open I clocked 43mph it's hard to bump when crawling tho to much wheel speed can adjust the crunch control for crawling and still be fast or do I just have to get used to it?
Thanks for the video. Question. My Futaba 4PV can do throttle curve on the fly which is nice. Is there any benefit to adjusting the throttle curve on the ESC over using the transmitters ability to adjust throttle curve?
Can I ask is this setup for sensored motors? As I used it for my new V2 snubnose 2040kv and it smoked my motor instantly. Would it be the brake setting that could of caused this or the throttle curve? Any help would be greatly appreciated as it'll get very expensive to keep replacing motors.
Hey I have a question for you I purchased the MAMBA X, SENSORED, 25.2V WP ESC AND 1406-2850KV SENSORED COMBO crawler edition for my axial wraith spawn. I kind of put it in crawler mode as well I know it’s a rock racer but I really want the option of using it as a crawler as well. Is it recommended or should I put everything back to default? I would like your input if it’s okay...Thank you
I have a new Mamba X and new Futaba 7PXR transmitter running my Capra build and stubby puller pro v2 2200. I am new to this. I see the transmitter has a bunch of speed/brake/throttle/curve/% related settings. Very similar to the ESC settings from what I can tell, not all but some. Why would one program one vs the other, does one take precdence over the over. Like if I make throttle/brake/% settings to the transmitter and do the same with the ESC. You know what I mean? Thx
Hey John. I am debating between 1800kv and 2200kv motor. I was wondering what your exact setup is and why? Why would one get the 2200kv motor instead of the 1800kv. I will most likely go with a 11t pinion (lower is better I am reading) and have a mamba x. Stubby vs standard? I just got into the hobby and don’t know much about gear ratios and kv. All I know is we want 45:1 ratio and how can we archive that with 11t pinion? Love your content and congrats on 20k subscribers!
Awesome job great walk through trying to set up my first castle system and seeing they suggest only 1/18th scale little nervous was putting it on my Capra
So I pretty much set up my Capra with all you setting and I have a mamba x with the slate 1406 2280kv motor 9 tooth pinion and the drag brake sucks! It really sucked with an 11 tooth pinion. Dose this seem right or is something wrong?
Just an FYI if you are using this on the Capra the throttle curve will actually be your reverse curve and the brake will be throttle seeing how to motor is in reverse mode so everything will be reversed I learned this the hard way
For a trx6, would running a 15 tooth pinion on a 2700kv puller pro be bad for crawling? Would the 4100kv ppr be good at crawling on an 11 or 12 tooth pinion?
I have your 3300 kv sensored crawler motor with the Mamba x. Tons of torque. After running a couple times on 3s,I noticed my drag brake is not full on. I went through it a couples times on programming. Settings are where I left them. Also using the aux mode for my TX,to control my off on drag brake. Do you have any idea why it would suddenly have less brake? Motor works fine,no issues at all! I was told by Amain hobbies it was a programming issue??
Hey John, awesome Vid! Was wondering if you have ... or could do a video on a full electronics set up!? I have a VS 410 pro with dig, HW 1080 esc. FlySky GT 5 radio! Thanx. ~;+}>
I can't get my Castle Link to connect to the computer interface. I've tried 4 USB cords, 2 different computers equalling 8 different USB ports. I have a green light every time on the Castle Link module but always stays red on the computer. And obviously won't connect to the ESC either
@@HolmesHobbies ok got if figured out. The Castle Link module was bad. For anyone else that might run across this problem, if you plug the Castle Link into the computer USB and the module lights up green instead of red and the light on the computer interface for USB connection remains red the module is bad. Figured this out by purchasing another Castle Link and hooking it up.
Hey how’s it going John so I just recently ordered A esc motor combo from your store it’s the momba x and puller pro 3300kv stubby for a trx4’’sport’’I was wondering if it is safe to put the 45 tooth spur and 13t pinion and gear the truck down it’s a lil to fast with the stock sport gearing thank you
I don't see why it wouldn't be safe. You will just get more low speed torque. Your top end speed will be reduced but if you are crawling then it doesn't matter.
Could u please make a similar video for say a faster vehicle that also desires fine tuning for say tricks.... For instance a vhicle like a monstertruck and want to do advanced tricks like a nose wheelie or smoothe wheelie control. I bet it would be gratefully appreciated at least by me. Thanks for this video. I subbed through this one
nicely designed brushless around 250 rpm, which is what the Puller Pro does. Racing style motors will be 750+. Brushed, crawlmaster magnums and custom pros sub 100rpm. Anything under 500rpm is pretty usable.
I just went back through my settings and my start power was set at low *default. I raised it to medium and high and didn't notice a difference. In low it spins all 6 locked up wheels anyways. Well, I noticed that on the 30% punch on high was quicker than on low, but couldn't tell a difference between the three startup power settings on 20% punch. What's the difference between startup power and punch control? They seem to be very similar... does one control amperage and the other voltage? Anyone know the delay between startup power and full power setting? how long the punch control lasts?
I've done this with a revolver team spec ss and found that I'd need to input more throttle to get the motor to start up and not shutter like they do. On high start up power it started up with less input on throttle and had less studering.
I never owned a computer neither less a laptop. But seeing this video before buying my first laptop was the reason why it was the first thing I did to it when I got mine lol
i know this is a little late but this is strait from the program "The ESC will run the motor with more timing advance than your sensors are set for mechanically. " based on everything else it says in the programing its seems like its used to chose what timing "boost" is activated in a given RPM range of your choosing. allowing you to have better low end punch but also increase top end speed. i think this is based on the fact (i think its a fact) that lower timing is better for low end punch but as you get higher in the RPMs you want more timing. that last part could be all wrong but i think its accurate.
@peterhino6433 you cant change castle throttle curve with a program card, won't get as good low speed control, and won't be as capable in a crawling situation
Auto lipo cut off at 3.2 volts per cell?!! That is way to low of a voltage to let a Lipo Battery go to. My cut offs for all of my lipos are 3.8 to high 3.69 or 7.00 at most. running a Lipo that low is just absolute stupidity!
@@HolmesHobbies I run the packs from SMC and after talking to the owner of the company and his extensive research on Lipo batteries i never drop mine below 3.8 and at most 3.6. Maybe you have had good luck. But i have an extensive background in Engineering and a lot of my work is in the automotive industry on battery banks I can personally tell you that taking a Lipo to 3.0 volts per cell is bad and will eventually cause problems or premature failure.
@@burntfaceman24 ok sure, dude. keep only running your packs down to 3.8. thats only about 50% of its usable power, i think. so you keep buying twice the amount of expensive packs because your run time is cut down significantly
