Advantages of heat treatment:
1. Improvement of hardness and strength: quenching in the heat treatment process can make undercarriage fittings obtain higher hardness and enhance their wear resistance and tensile strength. This enables the undercarriage fittings to withstand greater loads and prolonged use.
2. Improve toughness and ductility: Tempering is an important step in the heat treatment process, by controlling the temperature and time, the toughness and ductility of the material can be adjusted to reduce brittleness. This is important for undercarriage fittings subjected to high stress and shock loads.
3. Improve corrosion resistance: Carburising is a commonly used heat treatment which, by being carried out at specific temperatures and atmospheres, increases the carbon content of the surface of the undercarriage parts, forming a hard, wear-resistant outer surface layer, which in turn improves their corrosion resistance.
4. Optimisation of dimensional stability: The heat treatment process reduces dimensional changes in undercarriage parts during use. By accurately controlling the heat treatment parameters, the undercarriage fittings can be prevented from dimensional expansion or contraction due to temperature changes, ensuring an accurate fit and proper functioning of the product.
Precautions:
1. Temperature control: Temperature control during heat treatment is critical. Excessively high temperatures may result in distortion, increased internal stress or material sintering, while too low temperatures may not achieve the desired results.
2. Cooling rate: The cooling rate during the hardening process directly affects the hardness and properties of the undercarriage components. Cooling too quickly may lead to uneven organisation and cracks, while cooling too slowly may result in failure to achieve the required hardness.
3. Precise control: Time and temperature control during heat treatment is critical. Too long or too short a treatment time, or too much temperature fluctuation can lead to unsatisfactory results.
