One of the prototypes from my collection labeled "Crayon" unfortunately does not boot up as a working game, or dump as a functional ROM. My ROM dumper will not even recognize a game as being inserted. What can be done? If you have prototypes and early builds dump them before the data might decay!

Crayon Shin Chan was a cool cartoon which got an English dub and was shown on kids TV years back so maybe there were plans to translate the game too? But as you say, the cartridge could have just been purposely cleared for the next Rom and just never got used again.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Yeah, what I think is intriguing about this is the fact that this label is printed in English, unless the Japanese show/game directly uses the English word I guess. But either way, that game likely was on here and that would've been incredible if an English port was in development but got cancelled. I have no clue the history of this cart, no answers to questions we may have.

Probably at this point to see if anything is on it would be to de-solder safely those EPROMS noting the order, then using something like a XGecu TL866II Plus or similar EPROM reader/writer to read what might be on them. I am not aware of a way to tap into them in place. Although granted I am a novice with this. What I find interesting here, they mixed EPROM chips, older AMD ones on top and slightly newer Intel ones on the bottom.

Thanks for the pro response man. Interesting, I didn't notice yet the chips were different! Great observation. I'll look into the TL866II, like I mentioned I really don't like the idea of desoldering the chips from the board but maybe if I have nothing to lose at some point I'd consider it. I find it odd a Japanese game had an English label printed if it is in fact that same game. Or could it be an unrelated game in development, never released and just a coincidence with the name?
