I recently saw an official MLP comic, Nightmare Knights, where daybreaker returns. She’s in an alternate dimension, (acessable by a different secret broken mirror), one where*REDACTED* won eons ago and he mentored the princess instead of starswirl, until daybreaker and nightmare moon overthrew him. So in cannon, daybreaker does exist as flesh and blood, not just a dream.
One little detail I like, and might be easy to miss, the second batch of pancakes has pineapple on it because that’s what Luna ate before going to bed the previous morning…if the events of the episode hadn’t happened, the next batch probably would’ve had bananas on it. Celesta is probably hoping to get Luna to join her for breakfast by topping the pancakes with what she saw Luna eat the previous morning, and Luna is probably just absentmindedly grabbing whatever looks appetizing
Well Celestia was new to Luna's magic so there is a chance that she might have, in some way, infected Starlight with her own fears, given that Daybreaker appeared after Celestia entered the dream.
To this day, Many people in the fandom call this one of the worst Applejack episode and even I think so. AJ was acting like a total jerk in fact I often like to compare this episode to "Putting Your Hoof Down" because just as Fluttershy learned that there's a difference between being assertive and just plain being a jerk, AJ learned the difference between criticism and just being plain mean. But the episode does have moments that I enjoy, Like the scene when Rarity plays the guitar. She absolutely shredded on that thing even making Pinkie Pie's friz freak again just like it did in "The Mane Attraction!" And my two new favorite characters from this episode was Inky Rose and Lily Lace they were both adorable! And of course it was especially good to see Hoity Toity and Photo Finish again, Because as I said before absolutely no episode involving fashion would be complete without those two characters! In conclusion, This episode may be one of AJ's worst but at least she learns her lesson in the end and thankfully the lesson is a good one, I mean I don't condone Applejack's behavior but the lesson she learns in this episode is a good one! "A Royal Problem" is one of my favorite Starlight episodes, It was very interesting to see Starlight be summoned by the cutie mark map to Canterlot. Although I can remember a lot of people in the fandom not liking that the episode pretty much went all Freaky Friday with the switching of Celestia and Luna's cutie marks, But I thought it was good for Celestia and Luna character development wise because in the end they gained a new respect and appreciation for each other. And of course it was intriguing to see Celestia and Luna perform each others royal duties, I especially loved Daybreaker she was totally badass!
In my opinion Daybreaker is so underrated. Sometimes, I'm surprised by the amount of people who don't know about her. She's one of my favorite villains.
Okay I get what Scoot said about thinking the princesses already had this fight before, but that's one of the things i love about mlp. The show isnt scared to have characters make the same mistake multiple times before they actually learn and grow. Most shows either have lessons be learned in one try or never have the lesson learned to uphold the status quo. Mlp actually has it be realistic that some things take more than one incident to truly comprehend what you're doing wrong and actually change your behavior. Obviously the song flawless, and honestly that whole episode kind of touch on that aspect of the show but its just one of my favorite things they did with their characters. 😊
Daybreaker is proof that Celestia constantly holds back her power out of fear of what she may become. Girl literally turned herself into a living Sun. She could have easily defeated Nightmare Moon, Chrysalis and King Sombra if she really wanted to, but she's afraid she might turn into Daybreaker if she goes too far.
2nd episode was one of my favorites. Daybreaker is such a cool design. I'm real upset that she didn't get more screen time after this. Cause it literally is a such a fire design.
The royal sisters episode made me realize, in combo with Celestia sharing in a previous episode how much she worried too, that her happy confident look to twilight was all trained too and practiced. And she wasnt even sure it would be Twilight fated to rescue her sister (As we know Sunset Shimmer also was a previous student, and probably a few before her too). She had sooooo many years to practice the front she puts on, Luna didn't.

I remember the comics did something like the Luna/Celestia episode before but on the case of the comics, Luna did a bet with Celestia about she would better doing her role as princess than her, i really love their dinamic on the comics because it shows a side of them that the show almost never shows, Celestia just accept the bet so she just can take a day off on the spa while Luna was losing it with her tight schedule

18:27 There was a big MLP leak during a break between two seasons. It was between either Season 7 and 8 or Seasons 8 and 9. One of the things that was leaked was early transcripts for some of the episodes that had already aired, as well as pitches for episodes that never made it past the pitch stage. The relevant part of this here is that one of the leaked transcripts was for Season 7 episode 10, and the town hall was originally written out as a scene, although it was cut for (hopefully) obvious reasons. It was mostly just a bunch of the same arguing you could hear before the jump cut, specifically they were arguing about which of their cities owned a statue. The statue was carved in one town, but the carver lived in the other and was just visiting the one. The only (possibly) humorous bit from the scene would have been that Luna, being the innocent and out of touch cinnamon roll she is, would naively suggest they cut the statue in half so each town can have it. This would have led the mayors of the two towns to collectively turn their ire on Luna for daring to suggest such a thing, and the resolution they reached after the jump cut in the episode would have been something suggested by Starlight, that the statue be moved back and forth from one city to the other after a predetermined amount of time in either.

20:28 Something else from the leaked transcript, Luna's dream was changed. Not sure how the original idea they had would have looked so I can't say for sure that they went with something creepier. In the leaked transcript Luna's dream still had her looking in the mirror, but she was surrounded by a bunch of floating, disembodied smiles, all different. She was 'trying them on' one by one like masks, and the disembodied voice of the filly who was sitting next to her for that photo shoot (or perhaps it would have been a random child's voice since we never heard the child speak outside the dream) would have been criticizing each smile in different ways.
I've never really liked ep 9, but the concept and lesson are super important and I don't really know how they could have done it better. (The whole episode could honestly have been the interaction with the strawberry girl. That covered it well). There are some people who just...think honesty has to be blunt and without understanding, but in reality we're all different people who have different experiences and opinions. Applejack is for sure the one who needs to learn this, because her pride regarding the farm is a great lesson. There are things that we can work tirelessly towards, and there are people who will just...not care. Its frustrating, its rude, and if we can avoid being that person, we can be a little better overall. I love ep 10 though. I think its great in showcasing more complexities for the characters. Twilight's never had an actual student before, and shes still learning how to manage her opinions with letting the student do what they think is best. I'm at that stage in my life too, nearing the end of it I think, so I can understand the warring emotions and anxiety. Because a failure from your student is like a personal attack, and having to step down from your ego of how "I'd do it" being the right way is hard. I just kind of wish there was a little more to touch on for that, but I guess because it wasn't the focus of the episode they didn't have time. She's also still struggling to get the sisters off a pedestal, even though they're on equal ground now. Unrelated but I know someone who I've watched grow into such an amazing person, and they're starting to realize the people they looked up to are with flaws, and are calling it out, and its beautiful. The people in question find it disrespectful and aggressive to point out when they're being unfair, but everyone eventually comes to realize the people they look up to are not without flaws, and that will deepen their connections. Because when you think someone is perfect, every crack is more visible. And thats not fair to them. It'd be nice if Twilight could have that realization, because it could greatly bring her closer with her fellow princesses. It's also great seeing how the princesses feel about each other. We get more lore building about them as the seasons go on, but they're old, and having a lot of time to catch up on. It can be hard to navigate two very powerful personalities, especially when one was used to being seen as the "lesser". Both were very clearly in the wrong, Luna wanted to see her old sister again, and to be more real and appreciative (not just fake smiles and hazzahs), which Celestia took as an attack. Celestia however wanted to reach out to Luna, and reconnect in the little ways that she can in the small opening of time she had. (Someone in chat mentioned that the pancakes had pineapple on them on the second day, after seeing Luna eat a pineapple straight, and that really showcases her paying attention...but to all the wrong things. Because if she really noticed Luna, she'd be concerned about her sister eating a peel instead of the banana.) Celestia has an idea in her head how she wants the interactions to go, because of her upbringing as "perfect", and when it doesn't, it feels like an attack. TLDR: One notices too much and seems to make a different story in her head, and one doesn't notice enough and assumes it's just her sister being dramatic. Both don't realize that when the role is flipped and the other is tired, they can't focus on their loved one because all they want to do is go to bed.

A royal problem is honestly one of my favorite episodes in season 7. But as amazing as it is. There’s one I like even more. And that’s episode 12 and also 13 of season 7!
The part in Luna's nightmare where her teeth fell out always felt a little dark for a kids show. At least to me it did, And from what I counted at least 18 of Luna's 44 teeth fell out I say 44 because from what I read equines like horses tend to have 44 teeth unlike humans who have 32.
What I think is a cool detail is how daybreakers cutie mark is different from celestia. And it makes me think that the dark blotch on Lunas mark didn’t appear until she went against her purpose it like a scar from her corruption.
The official MLP comics were actually REALLY good, and before this Celestia/Luna episode, they did a very similar thing in the comics. It focused only on Luna doing Celestia's duties for a day, but it was really cute and funny with great art. Luna's expressions were the best.
16:15 Starlight's cutie mark might appear similar to Twilight's and Sunset's because of astral-based imagery (a lot of people liken it to a comet), but consider this: with one exception (Luna), a unicorn or Alicorn's magic color matches the color of the primary element, or 'focus' if you will, of their cutie mark. Starlight's magic color is the color of the wavy line, not the star. Her mark isn't a comet. That's a depiction of her cutie mark removal spell in action. Starlight's special talent is cutie mark removal and replacement.
14:24 The previous morning, Luna took a pineapple from the fruit bowl. So Celestia made pancakes with pineapple this time. I'm not sure if I should applaud Celestia for trying, or give her a golf clap for making a token effort. The mixed berry pancakes from the previous morning probably have a similar story.
This is honestly one of my favorite mlp episodes. I really hope you choose to do the equestrian girl specials. Those are great and I think you'd like them.
I must concede to my primal urge to defend Episode in the face of all the hate it gets, It's not amazing, but it's also not horrid, I think it's fine and i understand Rarity's reasoning, she just wanted Applejack's discerning honesty, thinking it would be helpful, but got more than she bargained for when Applejack was being harsh with it, though maybe also I feel like the very lesson said episode is teaching is why I get so uppity and defensive in these kinds of situations

Nah a Royal problem was a great episode it so new for the fact that we got two goddess fighting in the dream two sister beefing with each other and starlight doing some crazy stuff it was really well put together i was hurting about Apple jack when she was being honest There's a limit on how honest you have to be

The conflict of "Honest Apple" was some season 1 or 2 type of issue. AJ has come way too far to be that insensitive toward one of her BEST friends. I think as we demanded more episodes, they had to get "fresh" ideas but these new ideas were S1 level plot. "A Royal Problem: was when I really started to come around on Starlight and saw just how badly she herself wanted to be a better pony but still hadn't gotten over her past mistakes. It's also when I figured she may actually be stronger than Twilight (which has been confirmed by Twilight in one of the comics).
