Everyone's critique of the Tibet answer seems to be that it's "not a country." How about the fact that it's completely land locked, and no where near the Caspian Sea or Persian gulf or even the Middle East?
Because the question stated that the answer should be a country. The fact that she offered Tibet as her final answer was awkward and idiotic. She could have said Belgium and it would have at least checked the box for being a country.
That line had a very "anime" feel to it. Kind of along the lines of something like, "I could never win against you.... is what I *WOULD* say if I didn't have this secret weapon!"
This is like that episode when Spongebob and Squidward raced snails. The top 2 contestants were too focused on wagering it all to beat each other that they lost to Rocky in the end.
And (hypothetically speaking) if a/the one-time champion came in third place the next day, they would walk away from Jeopardy with a grand total of $1,001--still less than any given second-place finisher on an episode!
A brilliant observation on the winner's part that the other two were tied, so they were obligated to go all-in against each other and so he could basically bet whatever he wanted as long as it wasn't all-in. 1:38 really looks as if he knew this ahead of time.
@@therealCamoron Precisely my thought. He couldn't win without their help, and it isn't as though he was going to (almost) double THAT much if he did win by default, so why not risk nothing and just hope that the others both trip over? Worse still, what if one or both of them also had ended up on $1 because they'd decided to take that risk? Unless he felt that geography was his strong suit, it was pretty basic thinking to play the standard tactic when the circumstances were such as these.
It boggles the mind that someone can pass all the tests needed to even get on Jeopardy, then does well enough to make it to Final Jeopardy, and then answers “Tibet” to this question. She may as well have said “Joisey”.
My first time playing poker, I kept winning. But I decided I didn't like playing poker, and this one old guy was being a total asshole, and I wanted to quit but I kept fucking winning. Maybe she decided she hated Jeopardy and tanked on purpose.
@@evancarlson5805 It's 100% true. When you know the answer to something, it's easy. When you don't, it's hard. You might be able to puzzle out a hard answer but that oftentimes equates to an educated guess.
Dude is in the military. Which means he has seen a map of the Middle East thousands of times. How he come up with Iraq, which only has a tiny sea access point, blows my mind.
These are educated guesses. If you have nothing to go by, an educated guess could be for example any country you remember is in the Persian Gulf. Iraq is.
Definitely. Alex was Jeopardy and while I like Ken Jennings the most out of all the guest hosts, nobody will embody Jeopardy like Alex. On a different note, Johnny Gilbert's got to be at least 482 yrs old by now!
I have wanted to go on Jeopardy my whole life, but I know I would mess it up by not answering in the form of a question or getting out of sorts from the cameras or something. It's a game show at the end of the day and it is still entertaining us after 39 yrs and this particular clip after 5 yrs. Lets give props to the guy who somehow went viral after 5 yrs with a clip instead of pointing a shame finger at one another. I also got final wrong and it pissed me off because I did know it lol
Trying to be quippy in the comments section of RU-vid but not realizing that the Caspian Sea is a lake where the U.S. has no ships is just shameful. lol
@@rogergreen9861 Yeah, that's probably what they did. I mean, the fact that he was the winner the two days prior with 48k in earnings doesn't mean he's smart or anything *blushing* ☺
@Bryce Calabaza No worries, I never realized English Canadians and french canadians use the dollar sign different, I thought it was a American and Canadian difference
Yeah, I can still remember that show, it was incredible, because who would have guessed that with just a dollar anyone could win the game at Jeopardy!!!
Lots of folks forget that the Middle East is really part of Asia (Asia Minor!). When they hear Asia, they think Russia, India, and the countries east of there.
Tibet? TIBET ?!?!?! Lol... she may as well said Michigan. Honestly, how none of them answered this is mind boggling. They'll rattle off some obscure fact about Italian opera or bones of the ear, but weren't able to answer a basic geography question. I agree... that was the craziest Final Jeopardy.
@@Killer-Frost18x Azerbaijan is a nation in central Asia near the Caspian sea, so close but no cigar, also don't call things gibberish because you don't know what they are.
This is called the Prisoner's Dilemma: a tie for 1st place with 3rd place all but out of contention. For the leaders, the only two rational wagers are $0 or everything. (it's better to lose by getting the question wrong than to lose by getting it right and having someone overtake you) Third place, knowing that this happens, should wager nothing, but any wager from $0 to all-but-$1 is rational.
I think I had seen winners with a dollar at the end more than once in the early years, seen the winner have been in distant third going into final jeopardy, seen the winner win only because two players risked and lost huge pots, seen the winner win even though all three got the question wrong, and even seen the winner win because all three got it wrong on such a stupidly easy answer, but I doubt I've ever seen all those things happen at once. This must at least be among the craziest Final Jeopardys indeed, if not the winner.
I saw a similar episode where one contestant did horribly and went into final with just a few hundred dollars. The other two contestants were all smug going into final because they knew all the answers and both had the same, quite large, amount of money. Same thing happened in that episode as here. The two cocky guys bet it all and lost and the guy who didn't have any answers was also wrong, but he bet $0 and won the game.
I knew this immediately but geography is like the only category I usually do well on. It’s odd to see all these people know stuff I consider super hard but not be able to get this really easy question (in my opinion)
@@danbalkwill actually there has. The next day they had three new players instead of two. I don't remember when it was, but I'm sure you can find it in the search bar.
Crazy? Maybe, but it was certainly very depressing, not only did all three of them get it wrong, but it was a very easy question. Anyone with a basic grasp of world geography should know this. Plus with all the endless wars in the middle east, especially Iraq and Afghanistan, I'm sure most people have at least seen a map of it before.
@@Flufayy But imagine if the next day he came in 3rd? then he would have been better off financially speaking to come in second somehow? Also what would happen if all 3 were to tie at 0 dollars?
I figured it was Iran immediately because the country used to be called Persia up until the 20th century, it's a large country so that increases the probability it touches both, and I knew in the back of my head that it's located close to the Caspian Sea. Iraq was a very good guess, Azerbaijan was an even better try, but Tibet?? That's not even a country and even if it was, it's located over 2,000 miles east of Iran.
The first answer that should spring to mind is probably... Persia (Iran), which is obviously on the Persian Gulf, unless you do not think that it could also be on the Caspian Sea.
@@stephenolan5539 true, most people think east asian like china korea japan, vietnam when they hear asian and forget russia, india, and the middle east
To make it extra crazy is for me this was one of the easiest question ever asked (I’m not bragging, most questions they ask I am completely clueless on).
That has to be especially embarrassing as a member of the military, given how recently we spent time over there in relation to the air date of this episode.
I remember this episode. The fact that the military guy didn't get the answer is so shocking to me. Imagine Iran being in our media for decades and a MILITARY person of all people not getting the answer.
1) i mean… he tried 2) a little too north my guy 3) tibet is a) not an independent country b) in southern china so nowhere near there and c) LANDLOCKED
I immediately thought of the correct answer and then started second guessing myself because it can't have been so easy. But then, I was like nope, there's only one possible answer to this question, which was the right one. Kind of astounded that this was a triple-stumper.
I remember watching this live and being so confused how none of them knew it. Especially the navy guy. I figured he'd have some idea of geography, but I suppose not. It was a surprising ending to be sure!
SO funny like how tf did that guy not know that?!? How can you be in the navy and not know the geography of the seas and gulfs around the middle east? And Tibet? WTF Tibet is landlocked!
When we moved from Canada to Houston one of my mom’s coworkers asked her, “How was the voyage?” People in Texas rarely left their cities or counties so they had no idea where other countries were. Btw, my siblings and I were 2 grades ahead of every Texan. They wanted to promote us but due to age restrictions we were forced to stay in the age appropriate grade. That story was years ago. Now Texas education is even worse because of who’s running the state. Republicans are banning the teaching of many things because of being terrified of knowledge and an educated populace.
I actually got that easily. Knew it right away. Problem is, I don't know a lot of other stuff in order to get on that show. Need to bone up on my knowledge of the bible, authors, movie stars and more, LOL
Question for the geniuses out there. At the very end of the video, you can see were they show that the guy in the middle received $1000 and the woman got $2000. Considering they both had bet and lost the exact same amount, what was the tiebreaker to determine her being awarded second place?
Good question, I think it's determined by who had the highest score before the final question, in this case it was the same, so then I think it goes by who had the most money at the commercial going into the second round. (But I could be wrong)
