In his defence, the ground was raucous & he may have thought the whistle was probably normal cheering noise from the crowd. Ref was needlessly harsh. Cruel Red card delivered when Arsenal were in the ascendancy against Barça.
I will never forget the feeling of rage and sadness. The ref was disgusting that night!! As an Arsenal fan that was by far the worst decision and cost us the Champions League.
The Van Persie red card has got to be one of the worst. Still stings to this day. No wonder there are allegations of Barcelona paying the system still lingering.

Some of those high kicks are terrifying, not only are studs up but the force that their foot is going towards another players *face* could seriously injure someone. For those instances, red cards are definitely necessary, it’s just too dangerous
