Yes, the crazy alberto knot is a solid knot. If you're using a stronger leader than your braid, then I highly recommend giving the FG knot a try because it proved to be 30% stronger while also having a thinner profile. Your knot can unravel if your line don't come out by the same side. Also, there are people that say the knot will unravel even if you do it correctly, because of the knot hitting the guide every cast

All knots will fail at some point, so anyone who says knot never fails would be proof that he/she hasn't actually tested their knot strength. For those lines, the FG knot should have a breaking point that is at least 20% stronger than the breaking point of the Crazy Alberto. What i've found with the FG is that the lock down knots eventually get beat up and start unravelling. I've done several different finish knot styles on the braid with exactly the same results. I've even tried super glue and UV fly knot sealer with the same results. With constant casting and being pulled through the guides, the braid end of the FG knot entering the rod guides starts to come apart. If you don't mind stopping to check and re-tie your connection, go ahead. I can see how it won't matter for trolling, deep jigging, etc because you're not casting and reeling in all day...but if you're not casting through guides all day, how much does it matter to have the smallest profile knot? Anyways, that's my experience with it. I've gone back to other knots that can be cast through guides all day and do not come apart on their own.

It all comes down to personal preference and confidence. If you aren't confident in a knot, retie or try something else that works for you!

FishFPS going cheap will cost you ur fish of life time. I will only do Alberto knot for small fish. Big fish FG ia king.

Agreed: FG is fine for the couch; on the water Royal Polaris/John Collins/Crazy Alberto is king.

This a great easy super strong knot that's really thin when you're used to tying it. I'd also do 3-4 wraps at the very end thru the loop. If you want to but not necessary, do an extra 3-4 risutto loops too after that to finish.

Heavier line is easily detectable by fish. The lighter you go, the easier it is to remain stealthy.

Since nobody replied, I use a double or triple surgeon's knot or double uni for mono to mono or fluorocarbon. I think the strength in this not is the braid cutting into the mono/flouro. On a side note, it works well for fly line backing to the fly line too.

+Yakin'SC For slot reds, trout, and flounder, using 10 lb braid is plenty... I use 10 lb braid for a majority of my inshore fishing and it'll handle overslot reds, snook, and even tarpon (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K9cJeyjxeFk.html)... my favorite rod is a TFO that is rated for 6 to 12 lbs (same one in the tarpon video) If you'll be going after cobia, then it may be good to go up to 15 or 20 lb braid. I typically have a rod loaded with 20lb braid on hand for targeting bigger fish like codia, grouper, and snook around structure.

Yeah I stopped using that knot and went to the fg knot it just fails after casting quite a lot of times just breaks off

+jun jie Yes, the FG knot proved quite a bit stronger than the Alberto in my testing so far... results of course vary depending on the types of lines used, but I highly recommend the FG over the Ablerto knot when connecting a braided main line to a thicker/heavier mono/fluoro leader. Fish On!

You must have tied it sloppy and incorrect, or tried to tighten it down too quick and compromised your main line. I’ve bent hooks out on this knot before.

I'm presently making my own and using hollow-core wind on leaders. Very comfortable threading 20lb hollow core with 20lb fluoro on up to 200 lb hollow core with 200 lb mono or fluoro. So YES I'm good at fishing wind on leaders with all weight classes of line that I'm presently utilizing. It's nice to know a wide spectrum of knots and how to tie and use them. Sounds like you are familiar with knots and lines as well. :-))

That's because you have to do three turns at the end when passing it through the loop. If you do it as shown here, the tag ends will slip. My issues got fixed after doing the improved version
