This is the fav route of my 80-yr old friend. He cycles it (non-e-bike!!). Day one is Nelson to Silverton, then day two he bikes New Denver to Kaslo to Nelson. 220 km in 2 days for an 80 yr old!! Thanks for the review of his route, Juan.

Thanks for the ride down my favorite roads. The New Denver to Kaslo stretch is already a great motorcycle road. The Moto Giro is on this weekend, Based in Nakusp, it is an eclectic motorcycle gathering. Saturday is independent rides through these roads. On Sunday they will close certain sections and conduct time runs on these roads. Kaslo, the best cinnamon buns on the planet.

What a wonderful drive through this highway. I am enjoying the camera location on the pup. It gives an impression, that it's easy to drive, with the length of the truck and trailer navigating those windy roads. May I make a suggestion, ( I don't know if this is feasible), if you could mount a camera on the grill bars, just for the un-obstructable views, on these types of roads. (It would be like flying). But that might take away the meaning of the super B trucking videos. Anyways, thanks for the great videos, and keep 'em coming. I always try to keep up with any new content you upload. Thanks again.
@JuanRempel
@JuanRempel Месяц назад
Sooo, first, I agree. Or at least I used to agree. My old videos are shot in this style. The camera was on my windshield bur positioned to not see the truck at all. Front moose bumper wouldn't work because, wow, bugs. Having said all that, when I shot videos with just open highway, I got almost no views and subscribers. I had some people suggest that I show the hood, when I did, my channel took off. I guess people want to feel like they are driving or at least not a discounted body floating in the air.

Great "old-time" highway with some things really worth going to see, 1) Sandon, the ghost town with the powerhouse museum (although sadly a some buildings that I remember from when I was a kid were swept away in a flood some time ago), 2) Kaslo and the SS Moyie old time paddlewheeler museum. Kaslo also has a nicely done bridge and hiking trail from the town up the creek, and 3) Ainsworth Hot springs with the grotto on the way from Kaslo to Nelson. Well worth going to. Oddly, Sandon also has a fleet of old Vancouver electric trolley busses - I must have ridden on some of those as a young 'un.

Boy, this highway your on, sure could use a resurfacing. the bumps and dips don't show up in the videos, but looking at them......yeesh! No wonder it looks scary with no barriers. Definitely worse scares during winter. Guess it's likely closed during the winter months, eh?

@@JuanRempel actually, the highways were best in the dead of Winter as the snow would be hard packed and it was like being on pavement. Best time of the year to be driving or passenger as I was. Spring -- oh, boy. Washboard road! Just finished this trip and thank you so much. I have never actually travelled that section of BC as we did not ever take that route due to more time spent in Castlegar and also Rossland/Trail but after viewing this, I wish I had. Not sure my wife would have been as happy as she was very happy after crossing the Monashee and getting to around Lumby she said "oh, wonderful now I can actually see something other than nothing but either trees or rock".

Do the cyclists have a flashing light on the back of the bike? They do here, it flashers as they peddle. Really helps to see them. I saw the value of of having the headlights on this evening coming home from Port, (Port Macquarie) we just call it Port. A car coming over the rise had his lights on. Another car didn't, and I could see the difference between a car coming towards me. woth headlights on.Thanks for encouraging me to have them on all the time.
@JuanRempel
@JuanRempel Месяц назад
Bikes often have lights, but not always. Yea, light yourself up like a Christmas tree, ok, maybe not that much, but lighs really reduce the chance of a head on collision. That's why it's a law here

@phlotographer
@phlotographer Месяц назад
@@JuanRempel I think that the New Denver camp might have been the largest but not sure. As a kid we were told that 60,000 Canadian Japanese citizens were (falsely in my opinion) interned in New Denver. Summer time meant some senior level baseball games in Nakusp. Sometimes no enough to make a full team so I got to play R field because few folks ever hit the ball that direction and I was a young person and likely today would never be allowed to play. Many a vehicle has gone over the side of Slocan Lake and as far as I know, never were found and the last I have ever heard is that the bottom of the lake had never been reached. Could have changed since I departed 65 years ago.

@@JuanRempel should have driven the Monashee in the 40's/50's. Don't think your rig would have made it at all. My Dad once had a load of pigs and slid off the edge. Not too far but the pigs ran wild for a bit so he had to chase them down and hail someone (at the time other travellers were few and far between so stopping one was chancy and getting someone to contact Reuben Berghe (last name might be spelled wrong but the first I know well as I have carried it for 81 years) Motors to get someone to travel there and get the truck (about a D class size) upright and reloaded so it could be used to complete the trip. He told me the story and I am not sure if it was before or after I was born but likely before but certainly Wartime.
