Was heading to Veteran's Reef on my boat a couple days ago and managed to find a huge bait ball with monster Bull Sharks plowing through it so I stopped and followed it with my trolling motor and caught some huge Bonito off of it. I was worn out after a few in the box lol. Was using a 3500 series Reel.

Got into a school of Bonita long time ago before I knew what they were... Thought they were tuna until guy there learned me. Caught a few dozen on 4 and 6lb test with 15 and 20lb mono leader on Shimano sienna and symetre 1000 and 1500 and a tiny i think it was Shakespeare 500 size. . Much fun times. Didn't bleed them took em home and the meat flavor was so strong couldn't palate...soaked then Boiled some in stew for many hours and still unedible to me.

FYI, I was using pinfish I caught off the flats earlier that day and found that they wouldn't bite on the big pinfish. They bit on the smaller ones every time.

A few months ago down here in Cape Coral, FL came across a bait pod. After about a hour my friend and I had landed over 20 Bonita. Man they put up a great fight. I sure felt it the next day. They are great bait and chum for sharks, grouper and snapper.

Yeah they’re fun to catch especially from a pier. They will put your gear to the test for sure 💪 idk about eating then though. I’ve heard some people say they’re good eating if you bleed them and some say they’re trash 😅

@@Thonny I have seen a video where they fillet them but there is only one small section that is edible and not blood thick gelatinous meat. It is clearly visible when looking at the fillet.

🌴 well I suppose if that’s the best you can do ! 🤣👍🏼 ( just play’n ) well bro it looked like ya had a great day , ya might have to make ya one of those treble hook grab lines , I made one and just above the hook I put a big snap swivel that you can open and close , open it up put it around the line and close it the grab hook slides down your line to the fish 👍🏼 have you ever tried to smoke any of those Bonita yet ? For fish spread . Gotta bleed them right away.

Haven’t tried bonitas yet! But that man with the gaff was such a good dude! Definitely gonna go to st Pete outfitters and get a big ole weighted treble hook and tie a rope to it just to have.

Hey Thonny do you have any frozen Bonita to give away, or next time you go fishing if you could save one for me I would gladly appreciate. Me and some friends are going to 30hrs fishing at a part boat and we are looking for a Bonita so we can use for bait, I try skyway last weekend but no lucky and we live in Orlando, so is not that easy for us to fish often on that side and we are not finding Bonita anywhere on bait shops around here
