We started preg checking the herd and a couple of the critters were a little crazy!

We have a poultry farm and also have a 'no-crazies' rule. We have about 50 roos. NONE of them are aggressive to each other, to people, hens, ext. We had three that were totally nuts. Caught them attacking a hen (killed her). They went to auction that Saturday. Had a red something or other mix that was dumped on our property. He was INSANE!! He attacked everyone! Had one of the teenage boys that worked for us shoot it because we couldn't get close enough to catch it. You can't keep animals that pose a danger to people or other animals. Period! Without the aggressive animals: our two flocks are fantastic. We merge them into one huge flock in summer for pasturing (no point in pasturing in winter) and even then the two groups of twenty-five roos don't fight! It's the hens that have it out for a few days. ;)

This is great, I was just reading about how certain personality traits in cows can be a danger to the farmers working them, and sometimes culling them is the best way to eliminate that problem. I'm 22, and I've been wanting to start my own Farm for several years. Finally took some initiative, and I'm hoping to have my first herd in the next couple of years. Your videos are an excellent resource. Keep up the good work!

@@andersonsroad5161 I get what you're saying. And I have both education and trade skills. They just feel like dead-ends to me personally. EMS is fun until you get shot, or hurt your back, or get a needle stick. Welding is fun until you catch yourself on fire, or get injured in some way. There are still those risk while farming, but I don't have to deal with as many drug addicts.

@@SonneFarms I'll agree that there are some RU-vidrs who beg and come across as desperate for money but you are definitely not one of them. I usually watch about 1 minute of their videos and stop. There are others who put links to patreon in their about and video descriptions but never mention it. It's there if we want to contribute. I normally watch RU-vid with ads blocked but I will turn them on and sit through the annoying videos for more favorite channels just to help them out. If there was another way to show my support for your awesome entertainment I'd go for it instead of watching ads.

The more excited you get the more excited they get. Your body is like a huge balloon. They can feel you when your 6 to 10 feet away.. Use the force and some patience. Stay calm don't flap your arms or yell. Keep the dogs back. Move slowly pushing on them one step at a time. They'll mind. But if you do the jig they'll dance. Just like that old girl did.

Sweet pea. Train those old biddies to come to the sound of a grain bucket and your call. Ours come to the shaking of an empty bucket and the call of “cows, cows, cows”!!! A lot less running

I grew up with dairy cows and later beef cows. I always found at least one calf I would take the time to friendly up. Later when needing to get the herd up all I had to do was take a bucket of grain and the one friendly one would come right up and follow like a dog and the rest would follow. Definitely should stood his ground with that cow and get a damn good cow dog trained to stay beside you. Makes a world of difference. That cow don’t dare challenge that dog nor get past you to jump a gate.

Shut them away from water over night. Open the gate to water bring a feed sack and they're caught. All but the nuts. They need to take a one way ride. They cost more than they're worth.

I train horses on the side, maybe we should cross her with a Holsteiner horse and get us some jumpers, way more money in a big horse than in a beef cow

Way more work and time to breed and train a good horse too. Butcher a steer at 10 to 12 months. A horse cant take real hard work until its 5 years old.

8:40 Never chase and corner a panicky cow. Very dangerous. My neighbor almost died last year doing that. Shattered the bones in his right ankle and 7 broken ribs. I found him up on top of the pipe fence, just hanging there waiting for somebody to drive by. He said he only survived the attack because he managed to crawl under a gate and then up on top of the pipe fence. He said the cow wouldn't let him get up. Every time he tried, the cow attacked again. He's in his mid 70's too. Poor guy. He said he was done working cattle after that, but a year later he's back at it again.

segarza I lanced an absess on a cow that my buddy was putting in the cull pen. I told him let me get the gate opened before you let her out of the chute. Needless to say he didn’t wait and one of the helpers yelled for me. I had to jump over the fence and that crazy cow followed me over another fence. I thought I was going to be a goner for sure if she got me down. She went on to be hamburger helper!

@@GS-dq7sf Yep, you got to be fast on your feet to stay alive sometimes. It doesn't take much to change the course of your life with one bad accident while working cattle. In the past, I've been stepped on, kicked, knocked to the ground by cows that snuck up from behind, nearly ko'd by an uppercut to the chin from a cow's head because dummy me reached over a hungry cow while it ate cubes from a trough. Next thing I know I get popped in the chin and blacked out for a few seconds. Luckily I didn't fall to the ground and get trampled to death by a herd of hungry cows. I got a nice Angus bull that's never shown aggression. He's just a big 2200 pound puppy. One day, I was crouched down mending a fence in the pasture. Just minding my own business. You know that gut feeling that you get sometimes when you feel like your being watched? Well, I suddenly got that feeling. So I look left and then right. Nothing, so I start working again. That feeling is still bugging me. So I look again and nothing. Something just don't feel right....so I turn to look behind me and am shocked to find this massive Ninja bull...standing about 2 feet directly behind me! He's just standing there looking down at me. I didn't hear a thing when he walked up from behind. I'm just glad he's nice! I could have found myself suddenly 15 feet up in the air flying over the fence!

Your family has some nice cattle except for the 2 bad ones but that's how it goes sometimes. How many head does your family have ? We have about 185 head but the count keeps going up due to it being calving season for my family we sell our calves to the many Amish around our area they finish them and have a processing shop . Having cattle is hard work but if you're like me you probably have more good days than bad. I farm full time and am a electrician so at my electrician job if I have a bad day I come home and tend to my cattle or crops and it's relaxing . Stay safe and productive and farm on my friend !

Feed them from a plastic sack. Then all you need is an empty bag! They'll follow you miles, that's all we do

I was out at a ranch in Northern California years ago and the rancher had a aggressive heifer. She punched her ticket for the same reason. The rancher just would not risk an injury by keeping a wild cow around.

Ben Burns Farmer Says ! No way shape can they break bones, even jumping gates & catch a leg ! & as a beef producer , up into 5 years ago ! Not a injury problem to cow , but possibly a injury problem to farmers raising & keeping!! That’s why he culled it off!!

I've seen many cows jump (or @ least try) over fences or gates. If you think a fence or gate is high enough or strong enough, build it taller & stronger! Cows can be crazy @ times.

gates and fencing are just a suggestion. I had a bull that when he wanted to find greener pastures nothing stopped him. Other then that he was super sweet and i wanted to keep him around.

Well built electric fence stops even bulls. Something that will leave a welt on your skin when you touch it. If that didn't work the bolt gun at the processors will.

The full blacks are Black Angus. The others are called baldies, or black white face. To get them you take a Black Angus cow, and breed it to a Hereford bull

Looks like west Michigan weather. Use to unload 2000hd a night at the local J.b.s factor any rodeo clowns dream unloading pissed off cows from the farm to the sale barn to the dock. Always amazed me how beef breeds angus sharla gelloway could kick double hoofed 360 degrees. Chs good company

I hope you wasn’t using a cattle prod on them. My dad owned a farm and had cattle, but he had 4 girls and I was the only one that would help him. We had to heifers that calved and we couldn’t find them. We ended up taking them to the barn to care for them. I had to put on one of those long gloves and clean them out and a long plastic thing to press on their bladder. We ended up losing both of them. Anyway I love watching your videos.

we cattle too dairy herd we need to improve on that 5 years in the planes from what we wanted as to fences how the barn was cleaned lighting before build it we had most of the cattle still figure out we could start making them as to bending the stall dividers we have a CNC machine we can bend the pipe this allowed us to put monitor in and monitor the cow is in the stalls funny we put in a different stalls the older cows prefer that better they eat them, go the same stalls all the time if and young cow is there they push them off of them

Crazy but that is the same way politicians see people who think for themselves. As a threat/trouble makers. They will off you if they think that you're not going to march lock step for them. You're not worth it.
