Typically Morels require the ground to get burned a season or two beforehand. They like something that comes from the fire. That said, mushrooms also come usually a couple warm days after a rain. You might just be a day or two early.

As a kid, I went morel-picking with my parents and when we got the morels home and went to cut them open, a tiny salamander scampered out of one.
