Maybe batteries from mobile phones, computers and other handheld devices. Don't think there are many EV batteries available yet as they are lasting longer than expected and lots are used in ICE to EV conversions and other 2nd life applications (Nissan and Renault does lot of this with their batteries) but early battery chemical batteries is a distinct possibility

Interesting Video, Thanks for sharing, Always great to see an educational video. My only problem is, Why didn't the Apprentice get to try out the different techniques. I am a Leco by trade and also supervised our Electrical Apprentices, and you Can't beat Hands-On Experience. I decided a long time ago that I would not get an Apprentice to be treated as a Trades Assistant, but instead, try my best to teach and let them experience All aspects of the job at hand. Maybe it's just an older concept, but that’s just my opinion. I still loved the video and the challenge, between workmates, is always healthy. Would love to see the video of the Recycle centre. You shouldn't be using stainless fasteners with aluminium exposed to the elements. Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals will occur and in this case aluminium will he given up to the stainless. While it may take some time the aluminium plates will eventually be eaten away around the fasteners. For some time prior to failure it will also look unsightly with areas of white deposits around the fasteners (aluminium oxide). This is the same reason alloy wheels have balance weight stuck on rather than stainless clips at the rim edge as per steel wheels.
@acelectricalsecurity
@acelectricalsecurity 3 года назад
What about the steel wheel nuts, or steel pins that the nuts tighten the wheel on. I think galvanic corrosion is the least of their worries there, those things will probably be knocked over before that has time to happen and the base plates replaced on a regular basis.
@MatthewGeier
@MatthewGeier 3 года назад
Learned the hard way on my boat :-) The small stainless bolts that held the aluminium window frames mostly snapped off instead of unbolting when I had to remove the windows. There was obvious corrosion around each bolt. (Was exposed to saltwater, corrosive stuff, seawater). Boat owners have apparently had aluminium masts fail where stainless bolts were used to attach hardware. Colleges that work on the museum tramway I volunteer at always use anti-seize on the stainless bolts used on the overhead wire supports, otherwise, after a few years, you will never be able to loosen the nut off to make adjustments. While a landlocked site may not have salt laden are to contend with, how acidic is the local rain water :-)
@bigalsbash
@bigalsbash 3 года назад
@@acelectricalsecurity alloy rims are often coated/laquered, insulating and removing the galvanic jjunction. The hub area is also less prone to being exposed to surface water than the rim. Also, if you knock a stainless weight on the rim you will break through the coating. Eventually the wheel nuts will also break the coating and you can see on older cars the aluminium oxide spreading from the wheel nuts. Fortunately this area is also the thickest/strongest part of the wheel so we don't see them breaking, they get re-furbushed or replaced because they are unsightly long before being compromised. The damage at the rim occurs a lot more rapidly. The corrosion can cause difficulty sealing new tyres when fitted and on some occasions the weight takes a chunk of rim with it when removed. Of course the secondary reason for stick on weights is so they can be on the inside of the rim and nit seen. But the fact remains this is a galvanic junction and will look unsightly in time. Considering artisans strict attention to detail in everything he does, i'm sure he will look at this and consider other options in future. Insulating sleeves and washers or anodised aluminium fasteners are simple fixes here.

Colours of "Rust" Iron Oxide is Red Aluminium Oxide is White Copper Oxide is Green So if you are getting white coloured corrosion on the "Steel" of SWA it is is likely to be Aluminum Oxide and the "Steel" is likely to be Aluminium. From experience, if you are going to change the phase connected to L1 you need to maintain the phase order. So connect L2 to the L1 terminal, L3 to L2 and L1 to L3. Then use the phase rotation menu setting to tell it what you have done, so it can correctly calculate the power draw or export using any external CTs. Finally, if there are CTs wired to that Zappi, the CT wired to terminal 1 needs to be on the phase connected to terminal L1. It took me a while and some bizarre phase current readings (displayed somewhere in the menus) to get to the bottom of that.
@Hammy135
@Hammy135 3 года назад
Interesting. So with a reverse phase rotation the current draw calculation will be incorrect?
@NickW1111
@NickW1111 3 года назад
@@Hammy135 Not sure what effect it would have on a stand alone Zappi. Where you have multiple zappis with CTs wired into one of them, the phase rotation direction will have to be the same and the L1 phase set.
@Hammy135
@Hammy135 3 года назад
@@NickW1111 I’m not too clued up on this subject. So I’m guessing this setup has its own individual cts going back to incoming supply using the ev ultra swa? What would be the alternative with multiple zappis that you’re referring to? One zappi with a ct communicating with another zappi?
@NickW1111
@NickW1111 3 года назад
@@Hammy135 you set one Myenergi device (Zappi or Eddi) as master for the installation, then pair the other devices and they exchange information including power usage on connected CTs. They manage their demand together to use surplus solar or stay within the grid limit. I'm not sure what Jordan did but each Zappi only has 3 terminals for CTs so he may have wired the grid ones to one Zappi and the generation CTs to the other.

I've never tried an armourslice, but a junior hacksaw takes too long. I just use a knife and side cutters, maybe not as neat, but heaps easier. I tried with my busted old set of flush cutters, did pretty well at levelling out single strands, especially seeing as it had chunks out of the blade already. Todays top tip, don't lend your tools to anyone, especially your mates, but if you do, make sure you actually hand them the right tool, my mate asked me if he could use my cutters, I said sure go for it, assuming he would grab my side cutters, instead he grabbed flush cutters, unfortunately he was cutting steel wire rope.

The manual shows the wiring from left to right as (L3 L2 L1 N E). So he did in fact swap L1 and L2 and the phase rotation has been reversed! So indeed if any phase sensetive elements are introduced in future cars, the rotation will be wrong

Lol let’s change the game and have a pyrotenax cable make off race...now that would be interesting especially if supplied with only side cutters and no joistripper tool. 😂😂😂 Great Video Guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I would love to see the process for recycling batteries, although it is a shame they can't be used in a second life role like home storage before eventually being recycled.

Definitely a video showing the process of recycled batteries - anything to counter the FUD going around about how they all end up in landfill after a few years!

The load sharing is very good to hear, but will the out of phase arrangement effect harmonics in the sensitive electronics..?
