The first episode I saw when season 1 was originally airing was the episode with I give good parent and I knew from that second this show was genius. It’s one of my favorites.

I knew a lot of these were parodies, I got the sense just from the style of the song and filming, but I didn't know exactly WHAT they were parodies of! This is great!

@@lukemallinson7311It takes inspiration from My Way but it’s not a parody for the specific reason that Rebecca was expecting him to say “I love you” and then the end. There is nothing for Rebecca to go or parody off.

The line he doesn't say is 'shit show' (This beautiful, heart-stopping, breath-taking, life-changing...) but him not saying the line does not cancel out the parody. It's a subversion of expectations, because we know the parody would naturally end with a long held out "SHIIIIIIIIIT SHOOOOOOOWWWWWW" in the same vein as My Way, but he knows if he finishes the song he'll want to kiss Rebecca goodbye. He chooses not to finish the song because he's avoiding temptation there.

I assumed the vast majority of CXG songs were parodies but 99% of the references went completely over my head. I think the Spice Girls, Monster Mash, Cats, Chicago, I Kissed a Girl, Simon & Garfunkel, and Uptown Funk parodies were the only ones I noticed. Although now I see how I Go to the Zoo is a parody of Hotline Bling.
In the Cold showers video is the guy with the green shirt. Him having no problem with the children taking drugs or getting pregnant but is totally shocked and frightened that his husband could have an affair will always be the best part of the song for me
Right? (I wouldn't have it as my favorite part, per se, because I have been know to use both "This makes sense!" and "Gasp is right!" in everyday conversation. But it's great.)
Suggestion for a future video: CXG songs that bear the most resemblance to the Kool-Aid Man in their interactions with the Fourth Wall. (Or, if you want a more manageable title, Biggest Fourth Wall Breaks.) Sample inclusions: End of the Movie, Who's the New Guy (original and reprise), Dream Ghosts all seem obvious. But you could also throw in songs that reference being part of a story or a TV show (Villain in My Own Story, "This video ate up our production budget/Daryl is now played by a broom on a stand" from Love Kernels), songs that reference themselves (No One Else is Singing My Song, which references both songs as a whole and individual parts of its own composition), and songs that reference things that happen in their music videos which aren't part of the show apart from that ("I'm so afraid of horses" from Group Hang, for instance).
My personal favourite parody song is actually Ping Pong Girl - it emulates that genre so well, if someone had told me it was a genuine Bowling For Soup song I would've believed them
I think it would be funny to make a compilation of all of Rebecca's 'wtf' faces, like she does with the bikini girl in Trapped in a Car... I think there are a lot of those reaction shots throughout the series
Oh man, the "maidenship" whisper during 'I Gave a you A UTI' is my favorite of these, also the 'wtf' during 'im in much better physical shape' from "let's have intercourse"
I think a lot of these are probably more pastiche or homage (or just referencing), rather than parody. BUT.. I'll grant you that that'd make rather a too long title.
There are so many parodies and I agree with all you included! First Penis deserved nr 1, and Trapped In A Car definitely also deserved it's high spot! I missed I Hate Everything But You as a Bruce Springsteen parody, but including them all is impossible
The only thing that could have made this show better is if each character had their own distinct music style except rebecca(both because she has so much songs by herself it would get boring and because of well... everything else.)

Rose's Turn is legit one of the all-time best showtunes, AND STILL SOMEHOW DONNA LYNN CHAMPLIN'S VERSION OF THE PARODY TOPS IT. Although Imelda Staunton's rendition of the original fucking slaps.
I personally love the Cat parodies but maybe they're a lil too on the nose? Either way, WHAT ABOUT I COULD IF I WANTED TO?????? That's the #1 best parody song in the whole show!!!!
The Buzzing From the Bathroom would be the number 1 on my list. There are so many good songs on the show, but this one surprised me the most with the choice of genre considering the lyrics. I scream everytime I listen to it 😂😂😂

There's waaay too many good songs in this series. If you ask a Filipino, they'll put "One Indescribable Instant" up there because... Lea Salonga :D (It appears to be a parody of "A Whole New World.)
