You’re mixing recreational fishing and competitive fishing. Competitive fishing is about taking as many unknowns out of the equation. No one is stopping you from enjoying the unknowns of fishing. So try not to stop others fishing how they want.

I would say no. Where is the sport in hoping that fish are there? If you see the fish, then the sport begins by trying to elicit a bite.

For a tournament, Would you rather have brand new 21 feet and 300HP without electronics or a 20 year old 18 foot aluminum boat with a 90 or 115 decked out with 5 screens, 360 mega live and a couple of garmin saltwater live ducers?

@@muthafukajones1513 that’s a bit of a cop out. Either is not an answer. You know which one is going to be the advantage in a tournament. And you are misunderstanding or misrepresenting my point. It’s not just about the transducer. In these youth tournaments the kids are not the ones interpreting the graph and there is thousands of $$ in scholarships and endorsements that are at stake. This is the minor leagues for the elites. Before, as a captain, I could put the kids around fish. They still had to go fish for them. With this, I can point out the exact cast, watch their bait and tell them exactly what to do with it to intercept individual fish. I directed my 9yo who couldn’t really even cast his reel to make cast after cast hitting fish directly on the nose with a swim bait and he didn’t have a clue what was happening on the screen. I know he wasn’t able to compete with the other guys fishing, but he was the one who one and got the trophy. There’s has never been anything that put that much distance between the haves and have nots on the lower level. But that’s still not the point. The point is that if that fact is the thing that wakes some folks up to and equal out some of the opportunities for the have nots, then that would be good for the sport. The point is not a contest between the different kinds of advantages. It’s not whether expensive boats and better reels or the sonar tech is more important. The point is that the haves shouldn’t have a leg up to things like scholarships when they are the ones who need it the least.

@@Boethius411 It’s not a cop out, you just made a poor choice in questioning. The disparity you speak of existed before ffs and it will continue after. It’s a sport of gear and the have nots will always struggle. Have nots will struggle with any sport that requires investment. That’s why rich kids play hockey golf, and equestrian. It’s the sport, not the technology. The technology does not make anyone equal or less. It’s still about who can find the best fish. If you think otherwise, you are listening to Randy’s propaganda like always.

@@muthafukajones1513 2d isn't a live/active image. Neither is side scan. They both give still shots of what their beam just came across, not the real time active images that ffs give. Can a disposable film camera shoot videos? Same concept imo. I understand it my man, I just don't like it. Again, I'm not hating on those that are killing the game with it. It's within the rules and it takes a specific skill to find those ffs fish. No I don't think they just launch the boat and win and no need to be so defensive. I just hope at some point we figure out how to re-visit where the sport originated from and decide how to balance it all. Take it easy buddy.

Correct it’s not live on 2d, but it still shows you where the fish are, you mark them and then fish it. So you think they had that years ago? No. So ffs has made that more efficient. Speed up the sonar sweep, and point it forward. Not that crazy. I don’t understand how you can lobby against one and not all the others. It makes for an inconsistent argument. Have we all become hypocrites in fishing now?

That’s a myth, they hear the boat. It’s not like it’s a new frequency, side imagine and down imagine have bin using the same frequency for a while.

Seems like can come back to bite. It’s not even close. This is the equivalent of sight fishing beds 365 days a year. How long does a big female stay on the bed? Suppose she is interrupted in the middle of laying, what happens? Does the male still fertilize and guard those eggs? Upon release, does she find another male and finish laying? We have decades of data on sight fishing beds too, incidences of predation of beds, etc. We know that the most destructive tournaments as far as killing fish and harming populations are hot weather deep water events when they are susceptible to delayed mortality, not just from being ripped from deep water, but also bacteria and other diseases. The health of the genetic makeup of a lake doesn’t just depend on numbers. Not every fish has the genetics to grow big just like not every human does. Summer events kill and remove more big fish genes from the breeding population than tournaments during the spawns. That said, I still am not a fan of how tournament organizers for years scheduled events starting in Florida or Texas and basically move north with the spawn either. Conservation wise we can do better in a lot of ways.

You don’t know what species of fish or size. It’s 2d with a sped up sonar sweep, pointed forward. Did you expect sonar to remain the same forever? Nothing has in this sport. And if you can’t stand guys looking at screens then stop watching live. Do you understand the difference between live and an edited show that just shows fish catches? Guess what? Do you get mad when they light up so you can see where you’re backing up or look at your trailer while you’re towing down the road? Do you get upset when you want to screen mirror your phone to your television to show somebody something cool? Do you write paper checks at the grocery or use Apple Pay?
