Treating the guest and the stranger well is considered one of the greatest virtues in Persian culture. We say, "The guest is the beloved of God." Even if you have just a tiny bit of food to eat, you give it to your guest and skip a meal. I grew up on the north of Tehran, in Niavaran, and my father always brought home Americans and Europeans who were hitchhiking through Iran. Mom would give them a great meal, and they would spend the night in one of the guest rooms. And in the morning, they'd continue on their journey.

@liar fighter US and UK governments have done bad things. But who hasn't? In the history of Iran we have done many bad things as well! Are we going to hold grudges forever? That's what happens when your culture, country and civilization stagnates, falls behind and becomes prey to others. We've done it to others, and others have done it to us. As an Iranian, what I want is for us to stop blaming every body else for our troubles and assume responsibility for our weaknesses. Only then we can improve and grow again. This is going to happen. I'm sure of it. But sometimes change happens in spurts instead of even increments.

10 years ago I went to Iran for a visit and the group I was with ended up having a huge accident in the middle of no where. Every person who passed us by offered us food water and shelter. @M. Arbabistocrat Well it depends how you're travelling. If you go to a 5 star hotel somewhere, of course you will expect a few things. But if you're hitchhiking in a foreign land, then you'd have to be stupid to be arrogant with them, and will suffer the consequences. Dar zemn man iraniam dada. I have experienced the same hospitality as an Iranian, with people offering to put our family up in small far away towns. I greatly enjoyed this video, as it reminds me of my experiences in 1979 hitch-hiking in Iran. I was stuck because of the Revolution, and was not able to get money due to the bank strike. I hitch-hiked from Tehran to Zahedan via Bandra Abbas. Despite all of the Anti--American (and by association Anti-British feeling at that time) the locals who I met were incredibly kind and welcoming. Most of my rides were in trucks, and one night I got dropped by a cross-track in the desert, and had to sleep in the desert miles from anywhere. During the night the temperature fell down to well below freezing and woke me up. I had never seen so many stars in my life as I could see on that night. In the morning I went back to the road and soon had a lift to Bam, the next town. My time in Iran was one of the highlights of my backpacking trips, and I look back on them with huge affection. I am sure that you will do so in future, especially as you interact so well with the locals as you go.

Hi , yeah very rare to see hitch hiking by foriegners in Iran now i think . . i did it as well , crossed Iran hitching 4 times between '68 and '71 , Tabriz , Teheran and Mashad and into Afghanistan , and once down to Zahedan and into Pakistan . . and it was the same , phenominally friendly people , other worldly landscapes , lots of rides in trucks . . .but loads of people were doing it then , overland to India , doing it now is something else , this guy is a bit special and all the best to him . :)

I am Iranian but for me it was much scary what you said even when you said it was 1979 😕. It was a very sick time and as much as I heard about those time people were not normal and they were sick and mad and aggressive, is it true ? At least I know my parents and my family members and parents of my friends were not evils and mad and aggressive and they didn't hate US as well , even I do know they always loved US especially my father ,his wish was that he visits US once at least before he dies 😀 anyway sadly he died before he visits there. But anyway now everything is different. I believe people here are very nice .I think culture of people got even higher and better but the regime is too horrible . People here are not religious like past anymore too but we are forced to say we are muslims and such things ,it is such weird ... . US and Europe should not make another nasty deal with Islamic republic like in Obama time , they shouldn't support our regime and betray Iranians again . I don't know if you know it or not they have made deals with the regime for many times since 1979 and also at the Guadeloupe Conference these countries in west wanted Shah to leave Iran and that Khomeini come on power ... CIA called Khomeini one of its friends and France supported him as well and ... . All in all the revolution was all planned by west . I think the west should stop supporting regime and really let Iranians choose what they want and wish for this land but when I see Afghanistan and what the same west did to it , I tell myself humans still are too selfish and mad to understand the truth that we should help each others in the name of love and peace and not hurt each others and not destroy but build and make eveything better . For example, the same US let Taliban gets such many american weapons and stuff , it shows me those politicians even didn't care about many youths from UK ,US , France and etc who lost their lives in that place and were killed by the same taliban . Now Taliban got such power that people can't speak or do anything anymore and also politicians from west are making the nasty deals with this evil group. They have done the same thing to us for 100s of years too . people have been too paranoia toward the UK because UK always has betrayed Iranians through history. I can mention the Persian Constitutional Revolution between 1905 and 1911, UK and Russia were agaisnt it...

I don't think I've heard any stranger EVER in my life in America say that to me unless I knew then through someone else. But no stranger. Spreading the kindness to strangers during our trip is the most beautiful kindness in the world.... 🙏🏻☺️ Keep spreading the kindness Nick, just like what you have did to the old man by giving him some money, and he felt so grateful for that, I mean it’s just less than 4 euros but he kissed your hand, he might be need that money so much but he didn’t asking... We never know what people went through everyday, just be kind... THAT PART WAS SOOO BEAUTIFUL, may Allah blessing you always Nick...!!! Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩 for you and our brothers & sisters in Iran 🇮🇷

Hey Nick, I've been following you for a few months now and this is my first comment. I'm from Israel and Iran is our SO-CALLED biggest enemy, and your videos from Iran are sooooo cool and interesting. I can definitely see how lovely the Iranians are and for an Israeli, this is an eye-opener. This is something our leaders wouldn't want us to know - that the Iranians are good and kind people. They want to be afraid them, and basically live in constant fear in order to control us more easily. Thank you for doing what you're doing. You rock.

That's right, especially the new generation completely know the other meaning (as good luck). Also it depends on after which subject you bring up that gesture! If you do that after swearing or insulting that means quite different than when you do that with smile or friendly gesture!

I am from India and the Persians and Iranians came here some many many years ago. They brought their culture and opened businesses Some restaurants still exists over a hundred years. The Iranians are peaceful and warm and such beautiful people. The actual devils are the politicians who brand others as criminals when in actuality they are the biggest rogues. The world knows it. Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I am loving your series on Iran and your style of vlogging which is very much like mine!. What is setting you apart from other travel vloggers is your style which is more intrepid and very humanistic. You tube needs people like you to show showcase countries (away from tourists sites) for what it is and not what the media is saying. Thank you

it's the Arabian Gulf.. it's populated by Arabs on both sides.. if you say it was historically called Persian Gulf.. then why do you call your country "Iran"?.. also go back to history and rename it to "Persia" Iraq becomes Mesopotamia Turkey becomes Byzantium etc. things got changed
@chek887
@chek887 5 лет назад
Persian Gulf is the historical name that has been used through the history for this place and giographical documentation of United Nation and other accredited organizational bodies call it by that name, however in past few years Arab countries living in the area led by Saudi´s money and their influence on US and others tried to change that to Aabian Gulf
