Not to be confused with his nihilistic drama 'Joe' (1970) Peter Boyle stars in this Italian-produced, American-sold mob flick, loosely based on the life of Colombo Family legend 'Crazy' Joe Gallo.
Also starring Fred Williamson, Eli Wallach, Paula Prentiss Rip Torn and Henry Winkler, 'Crazy Joe' is nothing to write home about, but is still an interesting tale of a man's rise and fall during one of organised crimes most notorious eras.
Watch this trailer and try to guess how the film ends.

I remember when this trailer first came out at the movies. I was 9 and everyone in the audience yelped with laughter when Boyle said, "Hey it's just like the 4th of July!" line. For some reason I've always distinctly remembered that.

@@stevesanzari7294 they had to change some of the names and stories because some of the people where still alive. That is why most of the "true story" is bull. It could of cost the studio more then money... if you know what i mean. Plus the mob has always had their hands in the cinema industry.

There’s a lot to admire in this film. I find it very watchable. Have never seen it on DVD but it was on Crackle when it first started but I believe has since been removed.

I'm really starting to believe Martin Scorsese actually spent his own money to buy the rights to this movie, simply to squash it. It's MIA, a movie that had a lot of prominent actors...gone from existence ever since The Irishman went into production. Scorsese wanted to make The Irishman for a long time. It wasn't a whim. It was his dream. Crazy Joe was portrayed in The Irishman along with Jimmy Hoffa, Anastasia barber shop hit and many more. Hoffa (1992) is too big to "buy and bury", but a deLaurentis production from the 70's? I'm not saying Scorsese did this, but it makes one wonder why it's nowhere to be found "practically".

@@peterdarker1 well, that might be a record....don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I think Scorsese bought the rights to the movie and buried the film....he wants his portrayal of Crazy Joe in The Irishman...to be the only one.

Peter Boyle... interesting casting choice! But I'm glad this movie exists, Crazy Joe needed a movie about him (the gang that couldn't shoot straight doesn't count)

I remember the Ad in TV guide as a kid and it terrified me. I always thought he was machined gunned down in Umbertos Clam House. but he was just killed there.... which is bad enough. The original Umbertos looks just like the new one. They moved it up a few blocks. I been there.

As of tonight and since watching that episode of the sopranos when Jon Faverau is telling Chirs he wants to make a Joe Gallo movie and i seen that episode about 100 times until The "Irishman"came out and it led me to searching his name again tonight out of pure boredom after a days work, i watched one of those A&E docs about him and now i feel as of my life depends on making a reasonably good Film on Joe Gallo,or at least convince a brilliant team of writers,directors,producers, etc. to do so
