I think part of that was because people would buy/fish salmon and then nail them to door and stuff as pranks or as a result of one person feeling wronged by another. this is all fine and all until the person that they nailed the door to was away for a few days and coming back to a fish nailed to the door that is at some part rotting. The bear law in alaska mostly has to do with their hibernation cycles. I remember learning about it when growing up there. Apparently photographers and tourists were messing with bears in hibernation just for a dumb photo, which really messes with the animals and can cause problems if anyone happens to live near their location. There's a ton of forests along populated neighborhoods throughout major towns and cities, and it's not uncommon to see the bears roaming around from time to time without having pissed them off. They added more to the "take" definition to make sure no one could mess with them anymore.

@@joshdavis5991 Aha! *That* one looks like the pathetically small Dunkin' Donuts described, and it's in a place where parked cars could really fuck with the elementary school driveway just north of it on the same side of the street, especially if southbound traffic wants to turn left onto Academy St. But are we sure South Berwick even has authority to make this law? I see Dunkin' is on Maine Route 4, and just 1500' ahead is a crossing of the Salmon Falls R. into New Hampshire. Therefore chances are good this is a Federal Aid Primary Route, and under federal jurisdiction.

So fun fact about the MA golf ball law: This wasn't a no fun allowed law to stop some prankster or really creative assassin, but because golf balls used to be filled with liquid cores as part of manufacture, and the internals were not the safest of fluids. The law was passed because occasionally, these balls would break and people would be injured, particularly in the eyes from acids, so it was better to make a law that prevents all caustic or explosive materials in golf ball manufacture.

Wouldn't that exclude all golf balls? The liquid core balls would explode in the same circumstances as a wound core ball or a solid (prank explosion ball) ball? Impact will trigger an explosion on all three, the only difference being the force needed. The wound ball and liquid core ball would both explode if the coating was cut apart. The only one that wouldn't explode is the one marketed as explosive, those are just filled with powder, or are compressed powder. Then cutting it would just spill dust

The Nebraska one about a venereal disease likely isn't the only one and was once in the books for 34 states. Specifically for syphilis. It was a law disguised as a health law that was actually incredibly racist due to the high incidence of syphilis among poor and black folks due to lack of availability of treatment for one reason or another. By disguising it as "oh well give you this blood test to test for VDs" it was mostly to prevent minorities from marrying.

36:29 From Kentucky here, let me elaborate on that one. This is an odd amalgamation of a few things. On one hand, it's the anti-animal cruelty angle like Hugs said. But also, the '6' in there comes from trying to dissuade people from buying a young animal, then neglecting it. Also, most of those animals are group animals and need company, so.
@user-neo71665
@user-neo71665 Год назад
The small animal thing is because it used to be common to dye the baby animals for Easter. People would buy one give it to their brat. If the animal lived they were often illegally dumped somewhere. There is more than one state with a similar law for the same exact reason. I raise and sell chickens and even in AR there are laws on the min amount of baby chicks I can sell at once.

As a researcher, I felt that ending statement. The absolute worst part about it is that I triple check my sources before putting anything down in research papers or lessons, and I've still been proven wrong on a few occasions by experts in the field, even on occasions where I only used resources from experts! False information is not only spread on the "casual" internet or newspapers but in scientific journals and research papers as well, and it's not uncommon, either! Every year that passes, it becomes harder and harder to verify information, and AI will only make matters worse. This is largely why we're in the state that we're in-nobody can verifiably believe anything, so everyone has to be absolutely "sure" of what they know, which obviously spreads more misinformation and disinformation than actual fact! It's not just that people don't research (though this is largely true, especially of media), it's that it's constantly getting harder and harder to research! When comedians speak more truth than schools and cited sources alike, you know it's time to do something about it.

That Illinois law where there’s a clause about drinking in the house just feels normal to me. If you couldn’t tell, I live in Europe, where we are a lot more lax with alcohol, and I was allowed to drink indoors from aged 14. I personally never really got drunk or anything until I turned 19, but my sister does on a semi regular basis at home. This is because she doesn’t know her limits on certain alcohol, and is a sickie with it. It’s safer for her to drink here while it’s still unavailable to her outside because it means that she can learn her limits and how to be safe in a supervised environment. To be clear, we obviously don’t let her do it more than like once every 2 weeks or on school nights and stuff…but it’s important for her to learn how to handle her drinks and know where her limit is where she feels comfortable and still has fun. That’s why so many people get into such a bad state with alcohol at a young age, because they don’t know what they’re doing with it. Also we say she gets drunk, but she drinks like 75 ml of vodka with mixers and two Ciders at like 8pm, is completely fine until like 11, when she is viciously throwing up in the toilet. She’s not going crazy or anything, she just hasn’t learned what alcohol affects her differently and what she should and shouldn’t drink if she’s trying to be responsible, which is why she’s allowed to drink in the first place in the house. Because she needs to figure that out before she becomes legal and makes silly mistakes.

The company that owned the warehouse were illegally storing explosives inside and had them hidden behind iron plates; when it detonated it basically turned into a massive frag grenade and killed nearly the entire fire department (the only survivor was shielded by a horse, but was gravely injured).
