She is not a princess in the story, but to became a Disney princess one must follow one of the rules: have royal blood or marry someone with royal blood OR make a strong action of heroism. Since Mulan saved China, proving her heroism, she became a princess in Disney World, get it?
Shang isn't a Prince...his the son of a General. His original idea was literally to be the son of a farmer which is where we get his weird awkward personality from...
I personally like to think that Shang was bisexual rather than gay, he still pursues Mulan so really the fact that she’s a girl didn’t bother him(in a romantic way), plus I like the idea of more bisexual representation in media, they need some love too
Or Shang from the Mulan movie might have been pansexual, because, it's sort of like bisexual, but, more attracted to people based on their personality than their looks and gender.
I hate Mulan being trans I know lots of Transmen love her and her form as Ping But she didn't want to, she did what she did to keep her father from war and keep her family honorable.
@@noone-xz2in I don't necessarly hate it, its just thinking of her as trans is fun til you reach the end of the movie and she goes right back to wearing women's dresses (don't know what Chinese clothes are called so :P). Idk makes me feel like calling her trans just for her to go back to wearing feminine clothes seems iffy.
Baby Bitch I personally don’t think she either male or female.hence the. “Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me.when will my reflection show.who I am inside” line from “reflection”. She doesn’t fit into either gender role.
"romantic feelings"? uuh no. shang was the superior officer and was not developing a budding romance with mulan or anyone else. he was developing pride and trust in his men. also for a superior officer to have feelings for those under him would be considered disgraceful, dishonorable and shameful to a commanding officer in the chinese military ion that time. they would not allow it or show it. also shang very clearly was nervous around mulan and MARRIED HER IN THE SECOND FILM.
May I suggest that people, who find "courtship" in Li-Shang and Ping interactions, just don't have friends and don't know how two humans express mutual sympathy free of romantic and/or sexual context?
@@leilanigutierrez4839 BULLSH*T !! That's NOT how it exactly works They either have to have an Official kingdom or royal family blood or have another relative get married to a royal
OLe Jack Green The weird green guy check out SuperCarlinBrothers video “Top 5 Snubbed Princess” he explains what it takes to be an official DISNEY Princess
Shang is bisexual while Mulan is straight.. Everyone mixes it up or makes Mulan gay when during the song "a girl worth fighting for" she is clearly bothered by it. She also marries Shang in the second movie. edit: She won the battle as a female not cross dressed to gain trust to show power among women and how they can also fight for what is right.
@@bennu547 missed the obvious part of their comment it seems. "Everyone mixes it up or makes Mulan gay when during the song "a girl worth fighting for" she is clearly bothered by it" that is the scene where they flirt with her, clearly she is bothered by it. Hence why it doesn't make sense to call her bisexual nor lesbian.
About the second theory: haven't you ever heard of bromance? Because he cared a lot doesn't mean he was thinking of a romantic relationship. Also the last part about being disappointed and angry doesn't stand. If you found out a close pal of yours was lying to you about something this important wouldn't you also be mad?
This is a grea video, great work. The prince is not gay, not necessarily. Also, while the dragon and cricket are important, Mulan is still a hero because she must perform the heroic actions.
Shang and Mulan's relationship (While Mulan was disguised as Ping) was more of a bromance/close friendship. Their closeness was in no way romantic, nor did it feel that way until after Shang found out Mulan was a woman. It's more like Shang was so hurt that Mulan was a woman because of broken trust, not because of misplaced feelings.
Some of these theory might have been true and plausible if Mulan was a Disney film and only that. But let's not forget that the story is a real Chinese legend. Also, let's not forget that the second film was an obvious cash grab, which had nothing to do with the original legend and downright ignored some previously established character traits.
And another thing shang really never fell in love with “peng” He just grew respect for peng….. I also don’t think he was disappointing when he found out mulan Was a woman keep in mind he did leave her in the snow when the penalty was to kill her
(Spoilers from 2nd movie). If you watch the second movie, it talks about the two getting married in the beginning, then Shang Perusing Mulan from getting married to a prince so a war wouldn’t break out, and then in the end Shang and Mulan get married!!! I think that Since Shang grew up with a very honorable father,he spent (and still does) his life living in his fathers shadow and attempting to live up to his reputation. This would mean that he never really made friends and trusted easily. He’s never had a “real” friend.So....When Ping came along, the two began to get close, and Shang felt like he developed a REAL friendship. But....when Shang found out she was a woman....he was heartbroken. He felt like he was lied to,betrayed. Not from romantic feelings....but from his best friend. He loves Mulan for herself, and he respects her. That’s why he married her! He LOVES her! I full on support LGBT, but I honestly don’t think that’s the case in THIS particular movie series!
Okay okay. I for one would _love_ the idea of a gay prince, but there are just too many things that weren't taken into consideration. Like the fact that Shang you know.. _married_ Mulan. By choice. But also, the fact that it was thought he was borderline disgusted that 'Peng' was a woman and that he couldn't pursue her any further made no sense. The reason Shang was mad was because he was betrayed. Lied to. By someone who was supposed to fight beside him in a war. There's just no trust on his part. How can you risk your life with and for someone else when you don't even know something as simple as their name. Then, looking at it a more logical way, by law he had to execute Mulan for basically trespassing and impersonating a man. He didn't want to, obviously. But it was either lose the respect of your own warriors or lose someone you watched grow both in strength and mind. Of coarse he would be a little pissed and frustrated. Had nothing to do with his sexual interests/preferences, from my perspective.
How about the theory that the reason why the great stone dragon didn’t awaken is because it was already awake inside of Mulan. The great stone dragon is their to protect the family and Mulan wanted to protect her injured father so the seen where she cuts her hair while sitting under the stone dragon is her awakening the stone dragon inside of her
I saw something roaming around Tumblr that suggested the spirit of the dragon actually transferred to Mulan, and that's why the Great Stone Dragon didn't awaken; she became the guardian and sigil of her house. Hence why dragon images follow her when she's preparing to leave.
Wtf "Emperor's forces"? She bested the Huns who had survived the avalanche and taken the emperor hostage. And she didn't force anybody to bow before her. It was a sign of the Emperor's humility and gratitude for what Mulan did. Get your facts straight. Philistine ;)
It wasn't even the Huns. It was the Xiongnu. The leader of the Xiongnu was given the title of Chanyu. Chanyu Shanyu Shan Yu The emperor in this movie is based on Qin (pronounced as Chin as in China) Shi Huang The Xiongnu were more akin to a Proto-Mongol Horde type of thing hence a joke in the movie about Mongolian barbecue.
There’s no evidence supporting that they’re bi. You just want to make something it’s not and since you’re so delusional that you want something to exist when it doesn’t, there’s no convincing stupid
yes well how about you make some arguments to prove your point? because they seem pretty far fetched. mulan is shown to be visibly discomforted when girls flirt with her. So there goes being into girls. She cant be bisexual. Shang develops a BROMANCE with ping. Not a romance. If you actually knew about how other people interacted you'd know this. he marries mulan when she is a girl in the second movie.
There’s a theory that I read (tumblr I think, can’t recall the source unfortunately) that says the spirit of the Great Stone dragon lives in Mulan. As the great stone dragon was known as the protector, Mulan did exactly that. She protected not only her family but the rest of the country. And the reason why the great stone couldn’t “wake up” was because it was already awoken due to the great stone dragon being Mulan all along. I can’t recall the exact words stated in this theory, but I’ll try to find the original post!
Why can’t bros be bros? Why does everyone have to make them gay when they’re really good friends that greatly respect each other? That’s like saying a guy and a girl have to be more then just friends and can’t actually have a friendship
People should be angry they're making a Mulan movie because nobody fcking askd for this and for some reason this movie is coming out like it was something everyone wanted rn
Shang trusted Mulan litteraly because Mulan saved his damn life. First the didn't get along, he thought Mulan was a disgrace etc. But she earned his trust and respect throughout the movie. Mulan was the only soldier who cared for him after he lost his father he seemed to develop a friendship with her as Ping. When she was revealed to be a woman he knew that the punishment was death. (It was even mentioned by her father, that if Mulan's diguise gets revealed, she will be executed. Shang felt like the trust he gave Ping was also crushed cause Ping was a lie himself. I feel like knowing that and the fact that he would have to kill Mulan was why he was sad and angry. Not because she was woman. I mean why can't men be friends and care for each other without being in love? Why now every person has to be secretly in the closet?
Not at all, he is Long Tran (formerly at Sirota's Alchymy), director of Private Partners, Pac-Man: The Good in the Ghost Witch, The Spice God and more!! After all, they look mainly alike!! Actually, he is a General, and definitely one of the MANY most amazing characters by Disney!!
Mulan is a Disney Princess because of her heroic act aka saving China. And in the sequel Shang marries Mulan. And therefore Shang becomes a Disney Prince.
Okay, no. I have seen *zero* evidence of Shang having any kind of romantic interest in "Ping". The "you have my trust" scene is referring to the fact that *"Ping" saved his life!* 4:02 *No!* Shang was angry because *Mulan lied about her identity to get into the army, because news flash, IT WAS ILLEGAL FOR A WOMAN TO BE IN THE ARMY! There's nothing else to it!*
I don’t think he’s gay, I think he’s hetero, I have friends who most people think I have a crush on however I am completely straight, remember, ‘Peng’ (Mulan) is the first one to get the arrow, and do all his tasks successfully, and ultimately saved him. When Mulan was revealed as a woman he just felt betrayed, the person who helped save the Chinese Army was a female, breaking the law which wasn’t good with a general’s son who has to live up to his father’s name after he passed.
I don‘t think Li Shang was intended to be bi because back then it wasn‘t really a thing to make popular movies about anything but straight characters, was it? I do see why he could be bi, but he could also just subconsciously have sensed that Mulan was a woman. I mean, there is more to falling in love than looks, there is energy and the scent of someone and the voice and Mulan hadn‘t changed her gender, just her clothing. So it would actually mean he is very straight, sensing that there was a woman with him even though she looked like a man.
Plot twist: Shang knew that Mulan was a woman the whole time but just reacted when the others found out and had no other choice but to leave her in the snow and didn’t kill her because he grew feelings and respect for her………or not idk just something I thought about
I think Lt. Gen. Shang is bisexual. Mulan was never liked by the older women in her village. In the live action, she could be me. A martial arts nerd with no friends and definately no local men wanting to date her. Her father was called to train the troops. That was his conscription scroll read. Shang and Mulan end up together at the end of the original sequal, which is animated.
What if Shang was just demiromantic? He likes Mulan as an individual and that's all. I think Fa Zhou was granted land by the Emperor for some noble act in war. I don't think they cared for him to personally show up in the army, as long as someone represented the family. Otherwise, he would have been approached individually. He likely would've been sent home like Mulan almost was, if he had gone in his condition. If he had been healthy enough, they might have sent him with the General.
Saying that Shang ~could~ possibly be gay is just wrong for many reason.. Shang was still interested in Mulan even after knowing she was a woman, no gay person would push a relationship after knowing that despite how well they bond because, in the end, he would still not be interested in female parts, at the very least you could say he is bisexual, but gay? Nah..
He is not gay because in the second movie shang and mulan get engaged and if they are not married he is not a prince becaues he is the son of the GENERAL!!!! Not the emperor the emperor is the ruler and has only 3 daughters
Shang Li is straight. He just had a little bromance withb Peng. And also Mulan isnt trans, she just changed her outfit and tried to deepend her voice to protect her father. Y'all got this messed up🤦🏻♀️ He was just disappointed in her bc she broke his trust
Shang wasn't a prince and mulan isn't a princess I don't know a lot about Asias history but I doubt it's monarchy is a lot like eroupes but most Royalties have nobles fight for the monarch and they're family not the Kings or Queen's kids
If Chi Fu went ahead and declared the surviving troops "unfit for battle" he would've doomed China to invasion. Do you think the emperor would have his head for treason if he did that?
dont think hes gay, they just had a good friendship especially since she saved them and china and they end up together anyways. even if he was attracted to her before it may have been because of how feminine she looked.
LovleyIsh mulan's father would've been sent to where Mulan went meaning he couldn't have helped any of those who died before Mulan made it to the battlefield so he probably couldn't have "won the war" especially because he would've died in battle
You see Mulan did a heroic act (saving China) and that made her an official Disney Princess. And in the sequel Shang marries Mulan. Sooo Shang becomes a Disney Prince.
I read a Disney book called Reflection: the twisted tale (look it up) and basically Mulan has to save Shang and in the book he's like "Ping, I wanna marry your sister because you seem like a cool dude" and if that isn't gay I don't know what is
Shang wasn't gay. He was attracted to Mulan (Ping) but didn't know why, when he found out that he was a woman, although he was angry for her deception, he knew why he was attracted to him in the first place. Because he was a woman.
Just because Mulan is a movie about a girl who tries to be a man to save her father doesn't mean that the mean actor (prince) will be bi or gay. Mulan is from Chines poem. In fact, there is no Shang in the original poem. But as we know, it is Disney Cartoon, so It has to be a prince. In history of China, the trust between army and the general is very important. It is not easy to gain the trust from the General but Disney can not make that long or otherwise, it has to be 3h long. Plus there are a lot of Chinese poem talk about the a girl who tries to be a man to show her abilities.
if shang were gay them WHY THE HELL DID HE MARRY MULAN IN THE SECOND FILM? if he were gay he would have married a man. plus is anyone was a homosexual it was mulan. i would buy a theory that mulan was a lesbian or bisexual as that is much more believable. specially considering her feelings about marrying a man, her dislike for men, and the way she seemed to prefer the company of women and even was a strong defender of their rights.
What about the theory that mulan's horse was his father spirit guide during war that's why the horse is more smarter than any other animals and tried to protect mulan during battle?
Another interesting theory is the horse is the guardian of Mulan and her father since it's clear the horse displays a other worldly intelligence compared to the other horses who look like common animals also we clearly see it try to protect Mulan when they are about to execute her with a sword to the point that they restrain the horse
They tried give the movie feminist connotations with the American sanitation fairytale ending. But in reality she just didn't want her dead basically committing suicide. But also wanted to still be the daughter of a lord and not a street urgent. because her family for not having a male member showing up would have lost their title for the dishonor. This is also why adoptive marriages are a thing.
i herd a theory eather from cohen bros or watso videos that the great stone dragon did go with mulan in the form of her inner courage because after she leaves home the eyes from the dragon began to glow thats y wen mooshu went to wake it up it didnt responed its spirit already left with mulan
Ping went from the worse soldier in the platoon to being the soldier that could best the caption. Li Shang was starting to respect him as a warrior. When she reveals she’s a woman she makes Li Shang look weaker than a woman. In this period in China it would have been scene as shameful as both a man and warrior.
If you think about it Mulan massacred thousands of people in the war and in the end almost single handily defeated an entire army. “One grain of rice can tip the scale” yeah no kidding...
*sees the very beginning of the video* Wicked Binge just proved our point why we praise Mulan so much no matter what bullcrap the Twihards (I mean both the edgy, delusional female teenagers that are like Bella Swan) and Twimoms) say.
Sighs. Two guys just can't have a great bromance and be friends. No every guy seen together has to be gay. (rolls eyes) Today's generation is that stupid.
In the first movie of Mulan you can hear one of the three main soldiers tell Shang under his breath”And I’ll do it my shirt on pretty boy”. Usually, Pretty boy is described as a “ gay “ person. HMHMHMHMHHHMMMMM🤔🤔🤔
