Yeah, but Kendrick also wanted to let the situation escalate for content. He could easily have said another worker took the mop from him, explained what happened and described her appearance. Instead he insisted in going around to find it by himself. From Jose's pov, a stranger took his mop pretending to help him clean the floor, hid the thing and was playing with him saying someone robbed it from him.

I know about hard work, workin outside any weather, construction, deathtrap warehouses no ac/fans, constantly fast paced lifting 100 + pounds, job shoveling concrete, all 12 hr days +overtime.
