The small pen is called a FILCAO, not Filaco. Also, I found where you can purchase that purple 3 section pen. On Etsy, the store Esybuy sells acrylic versions of it by a company called Montagut. All subtitles and translations are up! If you have a language that is not shown here, let me know!
By the way, I think the original name of this Filcao pen is Filcao Kika, or at least it looks very similar in shape to my Filcao Kika. Also, a Filcao Kika is allegedly on display at the German Fountain Pen Museum, and it is said to be the smallest functioning fountain pen in the world, although I know for a fact that it's not the shortest one because I have a shorter, yet thicker one, brand unknown. But Filcao had a number of mini pens, and information about the different models is rather sparse, so I don't know for sure whether yours is a Kika.
You have developed such a cool niche for the niche! ;-) Whether it's pens, paper or ink, you always find the most interesting and unique items to review for us. Just when I think I've seen it all, you reveal something I never knew existed, or could have imagined existing! Thanks again for another awesome video!
Thank you so much. I took a few month break due to a death in our family and am getting back into the swing of things. Comments like yours make me feel so welcome-thanks!
Ooooh, thank you for the heads up about the Drillog kickstarter! I've been admiring that pen for a while now, curious to try it myself. I'm hoping the kickstarter doesn't make it too much out of my budget! Also, that was a really cool idea putting dip pen ink into the Indigraph. That is another pen that I've been looking into getting! I like the fact that the Uffizi Strozzi Mai Senza is so compact and has such a secure carrying case (also a postable screw top is fantastic!) Thank you for sharing these strange pens, as they are quite interesting to look into more.
Thank you so much--I'm glad you got so many ideas from this! That is the big downside of the Drillog--it's hefty price. It ends up being a pen I use because I tend to go to more pen meets etc and I'm always worried about breaking my glass pens!
That little fountain pen...what a cutie! I also need to check out those Lucky nibs for sure! Lovely and relaxing video. Goes great with a glass of Old Vine Zinfandel, my journals and pens. Thank you!
You have nice penmanship. Most reviewers don't. Every once in a while a reviewer will display a decent penmanship but they're far and few. Your writing is like a ray of sunshine.😸
Thank you so much Jose! Actually I need to pay more attention to my handwriting while on video. I'm always so concerned with the camera that I don't pay attention!
The Platinum Glamour looks a lot like one or Tombow Egg collection, especially its nib. Moonman Q1 also is a reincarnation of Tombow Egg. Loved a lot this video, thanks 😊
Whoa so many neat and interesting pens! I really enjoyed the travel friendly one in the tin. That idea of sharing/swapping inks would be so fun at a meet up. ... and thank you for sharing that tip about swapping that Wing sung gold nib into the pilot prera! Thank you always for your videos :)
Thank you so much Mits! I'm super enjoying that gold nib in my Prera! Hope you and your family are doing good. It seems like we will NEVER get out of "emergency" here!
This is a very enjoyable tour round the outer fringes of pen designers' imaginations. I absolutely love the tiny Filcao! It's maybe even as small as my Luoshi, but much more elegant.
I’ve totally been on the cute Chinese pen wagon. Got a bunch of Ali pens coming. How could anyone resist the adorable ness of them? Though they do all seem to be the same two or three models with small aesthetic differences.
How marvellous. Thanks for a wonderfully enticing video, ma’am. I am waiting for my Eureka fountain pen since when you showed it last. I ran - in the metaphorical sense - and ordered one from the talented maker. I can’t wait! My word, what amazing glass pens they have in Japan. I’m not sure when these beautiful confections cam into my sphere. I think it was childhood holidays in Florence where they seemed to like that kind of thing. I thought they were a complete gimmick back then - “who’d have multiple inks.” I thought to myself. 😹
hahaha! I KNOW! I didn't think this glass pen thing would last this long but I stand corrected! My Eureka took about a year from ordering to delivery so it takes a while! thanks so much!
Wonderful video, I am very grateful that you use international system and not imperial system when describing the nibs an pens. It is very useful Thanks
That must have been the best packaging I’ve seen for the Prera. It totally is a Toblerone in that you open it and it has a different kind of treat inside!
Wow! Composition, rythm and edit just fantastic. It fits like a silken glove for this really fun content! I’m happy for you to find softness in the WS gold nib. When it first came out I watched a review that noted no difference in writing experience compared to the steel nib, which was enough to deter me from ordering one.
I have had an indigraph fountain pen for years now and I have no real complaints about it other than it can be rather fiddly to get the cap off instead of the pen's barrel. It's served me well for years so far with minimal maintenance, just refilling it with water and maybe wiping off the nib if it ever starts crusting over with nib creep from ink.
Thank you for the feedback. I haven’t been using lately so I gave it to some friends in Hawaii. I think one of them is doing a test on it. Glad to hear it is working out for you!
Thank you for such a fun and creative pen tour! I'd add the Moonman Candy Lipstick to your your crazy pants pen list . . . although my personal favorite is The Bear Pen (14:12).
Oooooh this video just came on randomly again, but I have (what I think is) a great idea hahaha. Just a simple little adjustment to one of the pens. I think it would be so cool if, on the Uffizi, the barrel could just be another vial. So instead of having to eye dropper the ink into the barrel, you could just uncap and attach another vial. I was just thinking how, yes you could have 3 inks, but if you wanted to change it, where would you put the ink that you take out of the barrel? You would need a 4th vial .. unless the barrel is a vial! Then you could just unscrew it, cap it, and throw on a different vial. There's gotta be a way!!
Fun video! I liked it a lot. There was a brand in Italy called Filcao that made similar pens. Maybe this FIlaco is inspired on it. About the Platinum Glarmour, I have one that I got this year and it is amazing. It is like a cartoon pen. I also have the similar styled Tombow 828 Zoom. The Moonman Q1 (which I don't have) is a kind of a modern eyedropper version of the cartridge Tombow 828 Zoom. I enjoy your videos a lot. May I make a suggeston? For a second version of this video it could be fun to include a Ta Tung 361 fountain pen!
Thank you so much! As the commenter nordlyselsker says, I got it wrong. That's what I get for not getting enough sleep hahah! I am considering doing another video as I stopped this one to keep it from getting too long. I'll definitely look into the Ta Tung 361!
I had so much fun with this video! I live vicariously through all your purchases but maybe I need to venture myself and get that gold nib pen ;) Also the platinum nib with that cute little star. I just love cute pens and that Rilakkuma pen is the cat's meow, my kids were watching the video with me, both of them are Rilakkuma fans and they asked me if I had such a pen, haha. Thank you for bringing weekly fun and information of what's cooking in beautiful Japan!!!!
Thank you so much Gaby! If you can use AliExpress, it is a fun source for cute inexpensive pens. It just takes awhile to navigate as there is just so much stuff there. Hopefully in some up coming videos, I can integrate more Japan stuff (Robot Cafe, Godzilla etc)
What a fun video. I keep eyeing the Uffizi Strozzi photos in the past issues of Shumi no Bungu Bako, so it's great to see one in action. There's just something I really enjoy about the design. Also, I had planned on skipping the most recent issue because I'm not that into glass pens. Seeing you flip through it, though, I was all "Ooh... that looks interesting." So, there's that.
Thank you! Sorry about being an enabler! But I was surprised that Shumi went so heavy into it. There was an enormous amount of info in it. I thought maybe glass pens may have run their course but now I've changed my mind!
Alesa, I want to Thank You for the mention of the Wing sung 698 gold nib. I just got it and I am liking it. if you have any other suggestions, please feel free to share if you would. As Brian at Goulet said a while back "Quantity over Quality right now, with the way prices and inflation. I am buying cheap to see what I like right now. I wish I could be in Japan and buy high quality pens and not pay for shipping/customs etc.. Take Care.
Glad you like the nib! I think every area has its advantages. I went to a pen meet this weekend and everyone loved the Birmingham inks I brought. Which are fairly inexpensive for how much you get, and made in the US. Also, there are not the plethora of hand turned pens out here either. My advantage is that I love everything about pen and stationery hahaha!
I love pen and paper too, Japan paper is so nice. I knew nothing about it until this world opened up. The Birmingham inks I will check out--Thank you Again. Anything that comes to mind, just drop me a note. I am very open to your thoughts.@@InkyRocks
wow the fountain pen world is such a rabbit whole. I love the silver nibs but I admit my collection will stay limited. There are only so many I can write with LOL!!!
That is a seriously smart attitude. Sometimes I wish I had a LOT less pens and ink as I think I would be truly happier with it. But I run into the problem that I make videos and people ask questions and stuff and many of my pens are "props".
I have a Platinum 3776 with a very similar body design (except for having regular proportions) to the Glamour that you showed. As far as I can find out, in the US at least it was called Gathered, and I bought it in the late 80's or early 90's. So now, thank you, I've ordered one of those Wing Sung 698 with 14K nib on AliExpress, it was under $52. And I'm checking out the Drillog, it sounds perfect for me (I've chipped a couple of glass dip pens from being clumsy).
Yes, I'm always worried when I use my glass pens--they are lovely but I need to be paying attention. That is the best part of the Drillog--I don't worry about it at all. The best part of that Wing Sung is trying the nib in other pens. Someone said somewhere it also fits the Loom. Thanks!
Well, I bought the Wing Sung 698 and the gold nib is pretty good but not nearly as soft/flexy as in your video. As for the Drillog, I just had to laugh when I saw the kickstarter price, and then I saw a demo of the ridiculously short handle for this thing, and realized I would not be able to use it at all even if I wanted to spend well over $300 for the set. Why on earth did they make the handles so short?
@@roderickfemm8799 Yes, both the price point and length seem to be a problem with most people. I must have gotten lucky with my "Lucky" nib as I've really enjoyed it!
Another great video! That micro mini pen is crazy small! I would nominate the PenBBS 469 to the list of unusual pens because it's double-nibbed/double-sided(?). ^_^
Thats interesting about the shellac in India ink. What you hear online is usually that the pigment particles are too big for fountain pen feeds (thus the need for micropigments in fp inks).
I find that difficult to understand as I use some weird inks, that are glass pen only, that on purposely use large pigment particles. In one of my videos, you can actually see the large particles drip down in water. When those clog up, it just takes very long soaking and a sonic cleaner to get it cleaned out. With shellac, you are just out of luck! The kickstarter page also says that shellac is a problem. But in the end, I'm not putting that stuff in my pens hahaha!
@@InkyRocks I'd be interested in seeing some tests of this. Maybe the pigment size thing is one of those bits of inherited "knowledge" from the distant fpn past. Maybe it contributes a little to clogging and flow issues but its really the shellac that's the true problem?
@@bradleyh8044 Yes, it's probably a combo of both. With the pigment size, you at least have some hope of fixing it. With a shellac problem, the solvents needed to clean that up is harmful for your pen.
Thank you for another great video! I have been thinking about buying a flex nib fountain pen for a few months and I can't resist the $55 14k gold nib good deal! Just bought one from aliexpress :)
Lovely episode. You missed the Tombow zoom 828 and the old huge japanese eye dropper ones. They are chunkiest. 🤣🤣 I think the smallest one is for kids.
Hi! That purple Wing-Sung's name is Elegant (优雅). And I think it is different Wing-Sung company than that offering 698 pen. This Wing-Sung offers very cheap pens with 4 digits codes (usually).
I don't have an Instagram I wish I could participate. Lovely video! I am interested in getting a glass pen and I am glad that they are getting popular.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I really don't know how to make it easier for people. But I regularly have giveaways and am always having to keep track of them because people don't claim them. I hope you can get a nice glass pen--they are fun.
Wow, that pen is so so tiny, and here I thought my Cult Pens pen is small... Also, the chunky pilot? The ribbings on its body make it look a little uncomfortable for me, not like in holding but in looking. It's a little insane! Thank you for showing all those lovely pens and more~
@@InkyRocks True but with all the ink and pens we collectors buy in a year, it can add up! Plus, Japan prices are cheaper than US prices and Hong Kong prices are cheaper than Japanese prices. You totally deserve one!
I wonder if the platinum glamour would fit a kaweco sport converter... it might still be too long? its a fascinating form factor and I really wonder if its super ergonomic or if writing starts to hurt after a while!
I think Mystery Arts is going to try that Kaweco converter. I think it would be a great option if it works. I felt like it was a bit too chunky for long writing sessions, but some people say they find it pretty comfortable!
Great video as always! Good thing I’m working from home today. How does the new Eureka nib compare to the previous one? Also, that T&L ink looked like a milkshake or smoothie. Now that I have some glass pens (it had to happen eventually…) I might have to try some of these bonkers T&L inks. Thanks for the shoutout!
Thanks Jacob! It feels "heavier" and "thicker" not in a bad way. It's smooth and that feed is pretty nice. That slight denser feel may affect the balance or contact--not sure. But it's definitely a unusual feeling nib. I watched a glass pen video and may be one of the reasons you found it wrote a long time is because some of those nibs are HUGE.
Ooo, these are some to keep in mind if any of my current pens befall a terrible fate. X) (Not that I want them to, of course not! I just go by buy more pens only when they're lost lost and/or broken.) I hope someone can take a picture of a Filaco Mini Slim with an Aihao Mini Fountain Pen sometime, just for size comparisons.
I had to look up the Aihao--had not seen it before. It looks like the Filcao is about the size of the cartridge on the Aihao. The Aihao looks pretty cool!
@@InkyRocks Sounds surprising! XD It's sounding like it's roughly the same size, and that's still pretty small. Edit: Do you have measurements? I just realized I have a ruler closeby to measure my minis. :)
I don’t know as I sell and give a lot away and get many for gifts. I’m afraid if I count up how many I have, I’ll scare myself. But compared to many big collectors, I don’t have that much and I have big holes in my collection, especially in European pens and high end pens.
I bought a Wing Sung 698 in the demonstrator version with the Lucky 14 K nib. I wrote nine words with the pen after the first inking and the tipping material broke off one of the tines with a tiny splash. The nib is unusable now. It was an ebay purchase and I requested a refund. ☹
Wow, that's a bummer. Did you end up getting your refund? I got mine thru AliExpress and had no problem with it at all. But I had a problem with another order on another item and they refunded me right away.
@@InkyRocks I am working with the seller who just agreed to send me another Lucky nib. I offered to send the broken one back if he wishes. The nib weighs about .46 grams and is worth about $17 for the metallic value of the gold. Ebay makes it a bit safer to order online, especially with high-volume sellers. Refusing to close the ebay refund request until the issue is fully resolved helps too. The only reason I bought this particular pen was for the nib and I made that clear. I think this will work out in the end. A mini-drama and an international one at that! Thanks for the reply, it helped ease the pain. 😃
We do not have such an assorted collection of fountain pens in my country, I wish i win tha fountain pen the only problem is I can't find you instagram account
