I challenge myself to haul a double trailer of limestone out of the biggest quarry I've ever seen in American Truck Sim! The quarry is located just outside of Concepcion del Oro in Mexico and the destination is Pinos.

Alto means stop or high/tall. Pesado means heavy. Camino Sinuoso means curvy road. And mexican is not a language. They speak Spanish. Other than that, good video!

Also, that huge ramp with the red line is for runaway trucks which for some reason are unable to brake properly, so they may escape the main road and slow down on the uphill section. There’s quite a lot of those here in South America.

that ramp at 24:40 is a runaway truck ramp for when a truck loses brakes going downhill. happens when a trucker doesn't manage the speed of their truck coming down correctly and they can't slow it down enough and use the brakes too heavily, you get brake fade and the brakes stop working or they can catch on fire( ive seen it)

TONKA toys! Man, I'm old. I used to have a Tonka metal forklift and my friend had the dumper truck. I rode it down hills and steep paths all the time. One time I was going down a steep path and there was a low wall cordoning off a grassy area at the bottom. Couldn't stop and I went into that wall at almost full speed. I went over the wall, rolled and ended up splitting my head open on the wall at the other end of the grassy area. My Tonka forklift? Slightly bent the hard plastic forks and not one bit of damage to the body. I loved that thing.

Hey Squirrel, at 24:40, that is a truck runaway ramp and the red line helps you know that there is an upcoming truck ramp.
@armandorodrigues144
@armandorodrigues144 6 лет назад
«prohibido transporte pesado» means trucks can't drive there, translated does not make as much sense «heavy transport forbiden» BUT taking context into account it would be «heavy haul/loads not allowed» and the fact that it does not state a max tonnage means even an empty truck is not allowed to drive in that road, much less a truck pulling 2 trailers
@davedegray5307
@davedegray5307 5 лет назад
I've never seen this game, it looks fun. I used to haul dairy in 48 foot smooth bore tankers. Some of my heavier loads were close to 90,000 pounds. Smooth bore trailers have no baffles due to sanitary issues and can be very dangerous to drive because the milk can flow freely back and forth and side to side which can easily flip a truck. Thanks for posting.

The ramp is a runaway truck ramp. They are designed to help trucks stop if their brakes fail while going down a steep hill and are pretty common in mountainous areas of North America. They're usually covered about a foot deep with sand or fine gravel so the truck sinks into it helping them stop. Of course once you stop you're never moving again without heavy duty towing equipment or a crane so its a much better idea to just take care of your brakes.

I'm pretty sure Squirrel has showcased at least 3 other maps, one that expanded shouth and east USA, another that linked to Canada and a 3rd one that linked west and east coasts, as far as I can remember their level was not inferior to this one, of course not as challenging as this one due to the nature of the roads in the US but they could still further develop them and add mines (coal, gold, iron, etc) and logging areas which would set the challenge at least at the same level
@1971Corwin
@1971Corwin 6 лет назад
far inferior. There's nothing unique about anything in them, which you can pretty much tell just from the file sizes (tiny) before you even play them. What's the point of driving around Canada if it all looks nothing like Canada? Droppiing a bunch of trees around does not Canada make.

I notice that hauling a fairly heavy load you were going from 4th to 5H, if you spit 4th into 4H then proceed to 5H you will only lose about 200 RPM between splits, going from 4th to 5H is at least 800 - 100 RPM difference that takes a long time to recoup. I have hauled 75,000 lbs this way and splitting the higher gears will allow faster acceleration and will aid in getting up to speed.I use the 600hp Cummings with the Fuller 18 split with retarder as well and love the way she splits the higher gears, It would be nice to be able in the future to choose rear diff ratios as well.

That ski jump is totally an escape lane / runaway arrestor bed... steep uphill plus fifty metres or so of soft, deep sand means your "no brakes!" truck is brought down from 80mph to a standstill in (potentially literally) neck-snapping fashion (...maybe after taking out a few unfortunate cars enroute). Make sure you've got your seatbelt pulled tight, and hold on, pardner... and don't assume you'll be able to reverse right out of there. I'm a little surprised, really, I'd have thought someone into their trucks, even in the UK, should recognise one of those? There's a few of them at the side of trunk A-roads following prolonged gradients around the country. The Heads of the Valleys roads through south Wales is particularly rich in them. Anyway, I'd say your comment about the satnav speed limit display being iffy is definitely correct. It already seemed a bit off when coming out of the quarry (all the limit signs there said 30km/h, or ~18mph; the readout showed 31mph, ie 50km/h), and after you mentioned it I kept half an eye on that vs the posted signs, and they rarely matched up. Basically the only time it was correct was on the sections of motorway under a 110km/h limit (= 68mph), and I bet the actual blanket limit for trucks in Mexico is lower than that. The rest of the time it was more likely to be wrong than right, and it's not just a case of it showing (as per the usual Eurotruck readout) the actual truck limit instead of the posted car limit, because it regularly showed a limit higher than what was on the signs, as well as below. EG the 56mph (90km/h) limit through the town, the signs actually showed 40km/h (25mph)... so on and so forth. Luckily the police, and the game's auto-nick system, clearly didn't care about whether you obeyed them, else you'd have been looking at some massive fines / penalty points in certain locations where you were more than doubling the posted limit... (some of Mexico's roads are quite notorious for having ludicrously low, artificial limits in some places, which are essentially traps deliberately set up to raise revenue from people who feel unsafe slowing down that much in case they're rear-ended... and I think we saw some of that, e.g. some sections of otherwise perfectly good open road subject to a 30km/h limit just because there was a sight bend... when most other places you'd have the blanket limit, of somewhere between 60 to 80km/h even for trucks, applying throughout that section and the straights leading up to it...)
@JohnNorris411
@JohnNorris411 4 года назад
I used to pull doubles on worse and darker roads than that. Make it much darker, Narrower and add in enough potholes it looks a moonscape and shake your teeth loose, then you got some realism. Great vid, I think I am going to go try this game out.

24:25 - Those ramps are for emergency stop for Trucks that either run out of breaks or can not slow the truck due to mechanical reasons. They are filled with special compound and very lose gravel. When you roll on them, they will sink the truck into the ground forcing the truck to come to a complete emergency stop. many locations throughout USA have these. its also known by a few other names one of them being "bailout ramp". Also if you do happen to roll on these, you WILL need a tow truck to get you out, because your truck will be sunk into the ground. Usually a 60 or 80 -Ton Rotator will do the rescue. Because they also can not roll on the "bailout ramp" as they will also get stuck. so a Rotator use used instead. If you happen to be too far along the "bailout ramp" a crane will do the rescue instead, in replacement of the Rotator wrecker.

@@JM-yx1lm do you know there's a huge difference between Mexican Spanish and mainland Spanish? Im assuming not. Edit: meant to reply to the OP

@@benjaminburns4412 There is, really. Mexicans use different words, different consonant sounds, and nobody in Latin America uses second person plurals. But it's still Spanish.

In defense of Squirrels" Mexican/Spanish confusion, living in Arizona all my life, I know I can say that the Spanish used by Mexicans this day and age is a language all its own. Based on Spanish but is not proper Castilian Spanish any more. Catalan and Galician are other regional languages in Spain that also get called Spanish, they have differences but they can at least still talk with each other. Having family that speaks Spanish (Bolivian), you would not believe the difficulty they have trying to talk to Mexicans. As far as they are concerned, Mexicans speak Mexican and they speak Spanish. An example to English would be comparing American English to Queens' English. I'm sure if you asked some British people what we speak in America, many would say "American" and not "English". I guess I would have to agree with them. But I'm being too serious. To have a laugh watch this scene in Austin Powers where they use extreme examples of British slang. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NIaiW1XrzxA.html

I dunno most Brits would probably consider it more of an idiosyncratic use of English for the most part, but then most Brits are familiar with the vocabulary from American media anyway so it just sounds a little odd when you refer to the rubbish bin as a trash can or the bonnet and boot of a car as a the hood and trunk for example but it's understood what you meant all the same.

You are quite right. Being an American, I myself never found it all that difficult when watching anything on BBC. I always enjoyed a good episode of "Are you Being Served" growing up. :-) That's more or less how I feel about Mexican Spanish vs Spain Spanish despite my families' disagreements. I grew up listening to Mexican Spanish much more than Spain Spanish, ( they were only around for holidays and such) so I'm more used to the Mexican dialect. I don't understand their problems, I guess the difficulties my family has is mostly having to do with their pride and / or their impatience. Again, I didn't mean to get too serious in my original comment. P.S. to anyone reading. If you never heard of "Are you Being Served" and like old British comedies. Look it up. It has great actors like Mollie Sugden and John Inman. Sadly, they have since left us. But I hope their comedy can be enjoyed and remembered far into the future.

theR1ddle Then again, a 2 minute Google search on what they speak isn't much to ask for, no matter the confusion. There are other languages too that are spoken differently by different ethnicities but you don't see most people getting those messed up.

Galician and Catalan are different languages than Spanish, as even grammar is not the same although they share some roots. Castillian is commonly used to refer to Spanish as a whole and equivalent to it, although historically it used to be spoken in Castilla mainly. Probably the Queen's English vs American English example is more accurate as mexican variant is still not a language by itself, even considering slang and idioms. As for Squirrel, I don't think he put much thought into it, just a quick reference to the language they speak in Mexico. We all make up words all the time.

From the sound of it, Mexican Spanish is probably more like Jamaican Patois compared to English. Like you can see the links and make out some of what's being said, but still need a translator for a lot of it. (And Canarian Spanish is allegedly like the heavy Scots English version... more understandable than Jamaican, but harder work than American, Australian, New Zealand or South African English...)

The ramp around the 25 minute mark was an emergency run-off ramp, the red line down the middle of the road down the hill towards it is just reminding you that you'll gain too much speed if you let your feet off the breaks.

One of the largest open-pit copper mines in the world, the Cananea mine produced over 164,000 tonnes of copper in 2006. The mine is located approximately 40 kilometers south of the border between Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. The Cananea mine in Sonora is Mexico’s largest open pit copper mine, one of the largest in the world and - having opened in 1899 - one of the oldest on the North American continent. From what I can find it's approx 300km DEEP !

I think 300km is impossible, the deepest hole humanity has made is 14.2 km deep.

I really hope they follow up personal trailers with pick up locations similar to the current drop offs. Matching "I'm in a hurry" to quick jobs auto connect, "Let's play it safe" to current pick ups for jobs and "Where do you want it" to new harder pick up locations like that quarry, back alleys and other tight spots. All with better fitting names of course
