This was written in 1972 well before he was a big rock star. He had to tour constantly before he made it big, and his insights and emotion came from actual experience. Seger is one of the best rock singers ever and an amazing songwriter. Keep on the Seger train!

Pretty cool how they used the Live: Bullet version for the Greatest Hits. As it should be.

Bob used to have REALLY long hair, hence the "woman or man" comments. Thanks for reacting to this tune; I believe it is absolutely one of his best......

Not just Bob. My whole generation heard that. From our parents as well. Thanks for pointing that out to others.

Bob Seger is one of my absolute favorite artists. My favorite song is "Roll Me Away." Everyone who knows me, knows to shush up when Roll Me Away cones on because I crank that song up.

It's like he's looking through a photo album of his life on the road, and he's pointing at different pictures. "Here I am on the road again", "There I am up on the stage", "There I go playing the star again", "There I go, turn the page".

Bob Seger is a great rock singer, songwriter & musician known for his raspy powerful voice. He wrote & recorded songs that dealt with love, women & blue-collar themes. "Turn The Page" is my favorite song by him. Love the sax solo. He has so many great songs especially in the 70's-80's such as "Old Time Rock & Roll", "Against The Wind", "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", "Mainstreet", "Still The Same", "Hollywood Nights", "You'll Accomp'ny Me", "Roll Me Away", "Shakedown", "We've Got Tonight" etc.

Bob Seeger is another great storyteller like Paul Simon and Billy Joel and Jackson Browne. Love to listen to him.

Great reaction, you nailed it. Like a lot of performers and groups back when he wrote this, spent weeks and months on the road in a bus going from town to town to play. All they saw was the bus, hotel rooms and the stage and ot all just becomes a blur after a while. I've read some interviews and musicians talk about the travel and at times the only way they knew what town they were in was to look at the cover of the phone book in the hotel. A lot of people take the line "strung out" as to coming down from drug usage when actually its just you are burned out from all the travel. Being a long haired person innthe early 70's automatically made people think hippie drug addict and without facial hair people would question whether your a man or a woman. The sax does help set the mood for the song and Bob does a great job of telling the story of grinding it out.

I’ve met Mr Seger several times. I’m nobody to him. He wouldn’t remember. Just a bartender, years ago, in a huge club he played at. I just want to say, I’ve met a lot stars. Most, maybe, were aloof. Some few were obnoxious. Mr. Seger was kind, generous, kept up with his people, seen to their needs. Even his roadies. He never boarded his bus until the work was done. Soft spoken, easy going, a gentleman. A smile for his roadies riding the mechanical bull after closing.

You can really hear the loneliness of life of a rock star on the road. It used to be a very typical cliche to say “Is that a woman or man” every time an older “establishment” person saw a man with long hair.

Isn’t it funny that back in the 70s if you had long hair and weren’t all crazy alpha the crazy alpha dudes called you a woman. Now you say “ok, maybe I AM a woman, actually” and the same dudes, older now, all shout “NO YOU’RE A MAN.” Lol
