Crazy Scams in Publishing

This week, I had interactions with some dodgy (and thankfully not very skilled) scammers that I want to tell you about. Scammers and cons are quite active in the self-publishing industry, and they are extremely active on Facebook. Wow, has Facebook got super shady over the years. Let's take action against these unscrupulous scammers. #booktube #published #author #publishing #scammer

The worst is that all of these platforms support fraud because it brings traffic to the site. Nice to hear about the book. Since I'm your #1 fan I believe a Gold Gilded Signed page Kindle edition is in order.

Thank you making this. Thank you for helping unpublished authors to avoid the scams. However, I know about scammers in the publishing business. What I would like to know is how you get the books you wrote in print. Who do you submit the unpublished work to. How do you send it to the people who will print it. Maybe a ballpark figure on the costs. I could really use that information. Thank you for making this. I really do appreciate you talking about this subject. I am sure that a lot of others appreciate the warning of these scams. One more thing, do you have you any books that are in a public library? One of the first things I would do if I had a published book is to try to put in the public library. That would be a great way to expose people to your work. I was sent a book by an author, I am doing an audiobook of it. When I finish recording it, I plan on seeing if I can get it on a shelf in the library. That way if I get my book published, I will know the process it takes to put them on the shelf.

Thanks for the comment. i should make video about publishing. The only quick thing I'll say here, in regard to your question about costs, authors should NEVER pay for ANYTHING! Authors should get paid. So, if a 'publisher' is asking the author to pay, that is a 'scam'. (It's a bit more nuanced than that; but that's a good starting point.)For self-publishing, Amazon KDP is free. I have heard from viewers who have found my books in libraries. I don't have control over that. That's something the publisher does.

I thought the hard part was writing the book, it turns out for me at least it is a lot harder to get it published then it is to write it! Thank you for answering my questions.

And wildly intricate too! If they spent as much time on their service as they did on creating fake accounts to promote them, they might actually be able to build a successful business (maybe)

I've just started my query letters to agents this week, and nearly every single site has warnings about these scams! It must be a pretty lucrative hustle if they need to post warnings on the actual agent's websites!

The scammers are the book promotion services (I'm guessing). They just created profiles impersonating successful authors to recommend the service.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. I believe the scammers try to get authors to pay up front and then they disappear. 🤷‍♀️ 10:58

It's true I usually include links to my books in almost all the other videos. But in this one, I chose not to because Edifice Complex isn't out yet. (I figured that might be confusing; I talk about Edifice Complex but linclude links to other books.). Maybe one more week and Edifice Complex will be out. But I'll make a video about it when it comes out...I hope I'll be able to piqued your interest😁

Thank you😁I'll be honest with you (and this is just between us) but I'm not much of a Stephen King fan.😲I'm not a King hater, far from it, but no, I don't plan on reading his new short-story collection (unless it gets insane praise from readers, and even then only maybe will I read it). I still have Ligotti and Nevill collections to read!

🤣There are a few present particple clause (but only a few!) There is even one scene where a character drinks coffee!😯(but it's not a scene where characters are drinking coffee; he merely has a cup of coffee in his hand to signify that it is morning and the scene departs from there. Still, dangerously close....) Should be out later next week, and I'll make a video about it then. I hope the book finds many readers and I hope it gets a good response🤞

Neither. I'm staying in the guest house on this beach house property. I took the beach toys out of the toy chest and used them to decorate the shelves. Trying to make do with what's available to me😀
