Ciguatera seems to be related to certain areas more than others. I found the same thing, on that side of the island, it's just not prevalent like others. With that "windward" side, there are valleys and streams with a lot of fresh water run off into the ocean. A lot of guys believe that has something to do with why the fish don't have ciguatera toxin along that side!!! Yeah, I found the same thing, but I used to help UH wih a lot of their marine research and they gave me a lot of ciguatera test kits!!! It's definitely different, say on the kona, ka'u side where there aren't any streams with regular run off into the ocean, in contrast to north kohala and Hamakua, where there are big lush valley's with rain forrests and waterfalls and streams. Back in the days when rhe sugar plantations were still going strong, they used to.have "bagas"(?) a waste water from processing the sugar cane at the sugar mills, which went into the ocean on that side. I'd go trolling for ono on Hawaiian sampans back then, and you would see the cane waste floating on the surface in current lines right off the cliffs. The big ulua's seemed to really like that stuff, and we would catch a lot in those run off areas!!¡ No ka oi D.L.

The tax man came! Going to be in Keahou for 11 nights in July. Wish I knew how to free dive. Hundreds of hours underwater with scuba. I’d be happy learning just to get some kole (sp?). I’ve been going at it for about 8 months now at this point I’m just trying to condition myself and learn to hold my breath longer and do little by little deeper dives. I’m convinced I can do it on my own it would just take a lot more time since I’m being self taught. So if there’s any pointers you could throw out it’s be much appreciated!!!🤙🏾

As a person who has studied sharks since they were for mainly as a hobby but also has a passion for the creature itself the species my two thoughts on the reason why the shark attacked the fish and then left it alone was because one the shark was hungry probably malnourished waiting for an easy prey realized it was not worth its effort in pursuing the prey and left it alone or two the shark was a juvenile shark and was curious and playful so it attacked the fish to see whether the fish was worth attacking or just a f****** play with the fish like to use it as a toy basically and toss it around and attacking and whatever for fun now if there's an actual marine biologist who is watching this that can explain why the shark did what it did please let me know I would love to know
