CJ, this lesson is a gem for me. I’m 71 and many of the triad lessons have music theory tied to them, and it’s very confusing to me. You make it super simple because I have learned open chord shapes by memory, so with your triad lesson, I can do the same. I memorize positions rather than notes on each string if that makes sense. I look forward to discovering the triads in each key. Thank you!

Last time I played on a Sunday morning. The melody was played mostly from the piano. So on the chorus I just hung on one chord. The bass was playing the changes, the piano the melody and I just kind of cross picked one chord the whole time, It sounded amazing. The ringing notes really added to the song. Simple supports the song,

@DontGiveUp-qn8he
@DontGiveUp-qn8he 26 дней назад
For me, the picking pattern is mostly dependent on the song I'm playing. I'm considering quite a few things like rhythmic patterns, the melody, and where the song is dynamically. So, honestly I think as long as you're considering these things, you can't go wrong. Hope that helps!

I've really enjoyed your channel as a true beginner that wants to be part of the mix at church ASAP. We have a very small team and no electrics yet. I think this background style would fit me as a beginner and also would be a good starting zone for people who aren't fans of electrics. How would you approach a worship leader with the idea of purposefully playing background triad fills? Is it going to be difficult if the lead is a piano?
@DontGiveUp-qn8he
@DontGiveUp-qn8he 13 дней назад
That's a great question. If your piano player is playing a lot of melodic lines with their right hand, I would utilize the triads to play rhythmic patterns and not necessarily melodies. If the piano player is playing simple rhythmic patterns with chords, I think you'd have more room to use the triads to create melodic lines. Hope that helps

@ArtDonna84
@ArtDonna84 26 дней назад
Okay, so I'm not a highly skilled guitarist by any stretch. I love the triads. I trying to understand the "C" shape that you show. The notes in that shapes you are using are if I'm correct: Don the 4th fret B string, then C and G. I learned it with the index finger on the 3 fret for the G then the C and E on the 5th frets. How does your triad with a D become a C triad? Thank you. My apologies for a dumb question if I'm not seeing the obvious.
@DontGiveUp-qn8he
@DontGiveUp-qn8he 26 дней назад
This is a great question! I'll address deeper in future videos. But basically I'm adding some flavor to the IV chord, which in this case is the 9. That D note added to a C Major gives the IV chord more of a modern sound and helps connect the chord to the key for some tonal consistency. And I just like the sound.

Isn’t the C chord Csus2 ?
@DontGiveUp-qn8he
@DontGiveUp-qn8he 13 дней назад
It could be called a few different things in a chart. The Csus2 is one way of involving the 2 or 9. The main point isn't that the sus2 is the best option, but that the IV position often uses the 2 or 9 and this is one simple way to incorporate that.

Your c chord has a d note on the B string , yet c major does not have a d note in it..?..?? Your not making it follow the simple chord shapes of 1st 3rd and 5 for a major and 1st flat 3rd and 5th for a minor chord. Your muddying the water by not following the simple steps

It works because, in the picking pattern he uses for each triad, he ends with a note that is in the underlying chord. The out of chord note provides tension, and the ending note resolves that tension and brings you home to the chord. This is the same thing that happens when you play a solo using a greater number of notes within the key. It provides a more interesting (emotional) sound in the mix. There are no,rules, only guidelines. 😊

If you’re just technical…. you’ll miss the point. Making music 😅

Nobody plays 1-3-5 for every chord. That’s not the “sound”

A Tele with humbuckers and a bigsby is sacrilege. Completely against nature.

It's a Fender too. How unnatural is that. In fact, imagine a world without Fenders.

You talk to much and yet don’t explain anything clearly.
