Headed out surf fishing in some stormy weather and did some testing with new bucktail trailers Otter Jig Strips and Fat Cow Jig Strips. Nothing compared to the old reliable pork rind but two effective baits to have on the back of your bucktail. Whats your opinion on the three baits??!

Dangerous bro! Glad you're ok. Those rocks can get super slippery. I bought a bottle of those Uncle Josh Pork Rinds after reading John Skinner's book about fishing the bucktail and another striper fishing book. Sad to see they're discontinuing them. Must not be enough demand for them anymore with so many other products. I'm sure you'll find a great replacement soon enough! Fish on bro

Thanks man yeah I got lucky I fell into a deep pocket of water behind me. I had korkers on but the power of the wave on my head and body was crazy. I think uncle josh maybe stopped selling as much because the bait is super tough and they last pretty long as long as you remember to put it back in the bottle. Cool to hear you bought some and it would interesting to see if they work out there for your west coast stripers! Your c&c vids have been money keep it up!

They stoped selling them because of the age of the pig harvested was younger than before making the skin used not the same quality as before due to the age of the pig.

I've used both otter and fat cow strips. caught many blues with fat cow jig strips and they hold up great! 20+ blues on a single strip. I love how the jar fits right in my aqua skins rind holder too. I'll only use fat cow jig strips from now on.

the fat cow guys are surfcasters from Long Island. they definitely nailed it when they made jig strips. Love them

always a bummer when they discontinue a proven bait. glad you weren't hurt on that wipe out, but anyobe who fishes is bound to have it happen, its happened to me more than i like to admit lol. nice video!

vibratingstring I've been there, not that exact situation but ny being lazy and cutting corners, then end up paying for it later.
@FishAholicTV
@FishAholicTV 7 лет назад
The Outdoorsman yeah I guess they wanted to do something else. But TBH I think because the bait was so strong and lasted a long time maybe that was a weakness for a company trying to sell a lot of bottles.

FishAholic Fishing very well could be thay reason, they made it too well and weren't making money on it

The Otter Tail baits are great. You can dress all the bucktails in your surg bag so they are all ready to go w/o having to worry abt them drying out. The only con I can name is they don't hold up very well where you hook it on the jig and it starts to tear. But cutting that part off until the strip gets too short is what I do. They are great you should definitely give them a shot.

Jamel Leslie o yeah cut belly from bluefish is awesome! Another super tough option is if you fillet an American Eel you get really super tough strip bait and it has like a slithering action in the water almost like and Eel go figure. Fluke and bass love it.

hey FishAholic Fishing how do you like the Aquaskinz jacket I've been looking for a good waterproof jacket thinking about the Stormers Jacket but I feel they might be alittle warm for my liking. Do you think the Aquaskinz is cooler on the inside and do you ever have water leak inside during bad weather? I also fish a lot of down pouring rain too so just to give you and idea how I fish and that I need water to stay out of my top. Please lmk I would really appreciate it. Also awesome video as always and you should keep that wipe out on you intro vid man

Any tips on catching stripers with buck tails? I fish on mainly Long Island
@SuperJoober
@SuperJoober 7 лет назад
Adrian Herrera check out John Skinner's fishing channel. He's from Long Island and has great vids on using bucktails.
@FishAholicTV
@FishAholicTV 7 лет назад
Adrian Herrera the tips for fishing bucktails can be endless in the many different situations and locations. I will have a more in depth Bucktail video in prob a couple weeks once I get out to MTK for summer. But in the mean time when fishing in the surf let's just say from a jetty like in this video. It's important to know where the bottom is and how deep you can swim your Bucktail. Varying your retrieve by casting out counting till you hit the bottom is a good way to judge the depth. But don't let it hit the bottom every time. If you hit the bottom on a five count start your retrieve on a 2, 3, or 4 until you get a bite. If you hit the bottom every time there's a good possibility of a snag. Then once you start your retrieve if I'm using a Bucktail 1oz or larger I'll give it one solid Jig(lift of the rod tip pulling towards you) every five to ten turns of the reel. Hope this helps for now.

bucktails + pork rind ... but live or cut bait usually outperforms all lures for the larger fish
