Didn’t disconnecting the battery get rid of the light? Sorry I’m a chick that is still learning. Also do you have to disconnect the battery when cleaning a MAF sensor?
Disconnecting the battery was the result of my check engine light the disappearing. If the problem persists it will reappear but in this case it appears and after I reset it doesn’t appear for another 6+ months. You don’t have to disconnect the battery to clean the maf sensor. But it is always a good practice to disconnect the battery whenever you’re dealing with electronics or sensors
Thank you so much for responding I’m new with this and I’m desperate to fix my car. I cleaned the MAF sensor while the battery was still attached So the check engine light is still on was I supposed to disconnect the battery to turn the check engine light off and will it damage my car to drive it in order to find out if after 100 miles it goes back on. Basically how do I know this solve the problem and won’t cause my car for the damage?
BULLI KID yes And code P0171 saying it was running lean and They Told me most likely cause was the MAF sensor. My check engine light comes on Steve on for a couple days may go off for a day and then comes back on. I cleaned the sensor is there ever a time when a cleaning doesn’t work but a replacement does? I don’t wanna waste the money. Again thank you so much
My problem was the oxygen sensor. Which is not as big of a deal. If it’s a code for your MAF sensor, and you attempted to clean it with no real success. Then you have to get a new sensor. The maf sensor plays a more crucial role in the combustion process.
Check engine light on an 8th gen civic at 72,000 miles .. lol these are one of the greatest engines on earth ever engineered an you managed to put a check engine light inside the cluster. Hahaha goddamn you are legendary. For a tough ass r18 motor at 72,000 thats crazy bro lol you must’ve really pissed that car off
When removing sensors like these (even MAF), you don't necessarily have to disconnect the battery. None of the sensors are functional as long as the ignition is switched off.
@@BulliKid Ah man I'm sorry to hear..if you have an OBD scanner by any chance that'll help greatly narrow down what the issue is. Could be a very simple issue.
Nice! btw your fuel indicator is reverse, I had same issue, pulled out the pcb inside and resoldered all pins as it clearly seemed the case of dry solder. After that the problem never surfaced again.
They made this such a PAIN IN THE ASS on 9th gens. I don't understand why they had to change anything with the airbox given its the same engine and chassis.
Nice but what if my screws are stuck to my intake housing and I can’t get the maf sensor out?! Jk I bought a new one. It’s crazy that our cars computer needs time to adjust to new parts or new readings. I’ve come to love cars!
@@Amahyze777 Castrol GTX high mileage , never prolong the oil change past 6k miles , use Good oil filters Bosch/mobil 1 / Honda oem . Don’t neglect the air filter . And every other oil change put some Techron high mileage fuel injector cleaner . I carry a scan tool to diagnose any check engine light asap . And fix problem on spot , for me it’s been mainly the Upstream O2 sensor and rarely downstream . I once had a stubborn P0420 code that wouldn’t go away after changing 02 sensors . Those are expensive . I’ve always bought the Denso . I used 2 Cataclean Bottles back to back into the cat, to clean out any carbon build up and erased the code with scan tool , and check engine light never came back on . 😎 beats buying new cat on a old 4 banger . Good luck! What car you drive ?
@@CarRamrod1 Appreciate the advice, Tips means alot ! Have you ever cleaned the Maf / Tb or anything similar for better performance? & So far I havent got the chance to use any additives or injector cleaners , I was holding back because I hear they mess up the seals or something , & at 204k 08 Civic
@@CarRamrod1 Also have you ever serviced your transmission / fluid ? I've beeen hearing it's not good to flush it out either , But I get like a small delay on acceleration when pressing pedal I've been trying to figure out
I've worked on a few 8th gen Civic's and they were always in the glovebox on the left hand side. My buddy is a technician at a Honda dealership and he's the one who first told me about it. They are shitty stickers so there's a high probability that it got ripped off.
Is it in the glove box or once you drop it to access the cabin air filter? I have a sticker in my owners manual maybe the dealer applies it in the glove box
@@BulliKid All the ones I've worked on had it on the side of the glovebox, if it's not there I would pull out the box and look on the side by the filter.
