What prevents it from scanning the table and/or every surface the laser light touches?

There are a couple of different ways to address this issue. 1. you can create a clipping plane such that no data below the plane is collected. 2. You can easily select and delete unwanted data once the scanning is complete.

You can merge scan without setting points on scans? Just with the "align" function?

Within VX Elements, the software that drives the scanner, you can use the targets (sticker dots) to automatically align scans from 2 different positions. As long as you have 4 or more common targets between the 2 data sets. Or, you can also manually align different scans.
