You, Sir, totally rock! Informative, thorough, friendly, approachable, supportive, and clearly loving what you do, each of your videos simply makes my day better. I don't even have a 3D printer yet, however, your work has given me so much help in considering what to get I'll never be able to thank you enough. Still... thanks! Keep being awesome!

Thank you for making me smile today Mr. Space King Dino. I do have a lot of fun with this channel and participating in the community - I have well before I started making videos. Grateful to be beside such wonderful folks who love all of these hobbies as much as I do (and get why I spend my nights with pliers and a blowdryer with little plastic figurines lol). You're welcome regardless of whether you have a printer or not. Thank YOU for bringing your awesomeness to our little corner of the internet :)

Ever since I saw your suggestion on the Ender 3 and the Siepie profile, I bought one and haven't stopped printing since. Thank you a million times over for your dedication to your group, community and the work you put in to your videos. Everyone in the Facebook group (that your created) has been awesome and helped me troubleshoot a lot of the issues I had initially. Thank you again sir!

Bought this printer after watching your videos. While I've had a variety of issues covered here (warped bed, bowden issuss, filament feeder erosion, etc.), I have no buyer's remorse. I've learned so much about 3D printing, and this is a really awesome community to be apart of. Thank you so much for fostering our own little niche of it, and as always, I look forward to your next video!

Hey Danny, I've been running my ender 3 for almost a week now, zero regrets! And the whole community support network for this printer is a real big deal. I'm a first time 3d printer, so seeing all these videos and guides for the E3 has been immensely helpful and inspirational, your videos being paramount in that. I look forward to getting my models (thus far) up for display on the reddit soon :)

Hey Derek! So glad everything is going well! Happy printing my friend. I agree about the community support network - it's extra important for those who aren't technically inclined (like myself!) Looking forward to seeing your models!

I got the Ender 3 based on your recommendation and I'm glad I did. Before getting in to 3D printing, I had no idea how many variables there are. Now that I know more about it, it's understandable that people get disparate results. I wouldn't go so far as to call it an art vs a science, it's just a complex science.
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
I'm really glad to hear about your experience. I think it's a common misconception that 3D printing is super easy because you often only see the end result. When you include things like manufacturing issues, packaging/shipping problems, and then all the variables on the USER end as well - it really does make sense. Your experience can be completely different from even a big RU-vidr's - and that's just how it is right now. And I also agree that 3D printing leans more towards science than art. Adding manual supports though and finishing...that's a different story IMO! Maybe it's the crafter in me, but I'm learning about this stuff every day, and really enjoy myself. Thanks again for your comment - so glad to have you here!

Thanks Nick! I agree, and that's why I wanted to share the full story. Having appropriate expectations is important when it comes to tech like this that is still pretty much tinkerer territory :)

I just wanted to thank you for your work on this channel and all of your grounded and meaningful advice. I've wanted a 3D printer since I graduated art school as a modeler. It's only recently they've recited realistic prices and your examples of how well the Ender 3 works made me take the plunge! I ordered one through your link last night and can't wait to start printing! I love the videos please keep them coming. Until next time.

Hi Danny, thanks for all the videos! I managed to order mine yesterday from Amazon, and it should be here today! You're videos on miniatures have really opened my eyes to the sorts of things I can do with my printers. Sure, they're not a replacement for Citadel or other resin-cast minis, but being able to print custom minis of "acceptable" quality? That's just awesome.
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
I'm so excited for you! You're absolutely right - I don't think this tech will "wipe out" or really challenge GW/Reaper/WizKids or what not. What I think is it will add a new way for us to engage with miniatures for our tables, and allow us to connect with modelers and allow for more niche models than we've ever seen before. For example, Miguel Zavala recently made a gnome wizard on a pug. That'd be a great pitch to Reaper or WizKids ;) Or to a professional sculptor. But here we now have a model we can print and modelers who share their talents directly with the community. It's a really, really cool time to be in, or getting in, this hobby. Thanks for your comment!
@Komaru.89
@Komaru.89 6 лет назад
GNOME WIZARD, YOU SAY? I've had an XYZ DaVinci Mini w (left it in Japan when I left), a Monoprice Maker Select v2 (selling to offset the Ender3) and now the Ender3. I think one of the most exciting things for me as a wargamer, aside printed terrain, is that with the level of detail you've shown we can get, I can make medium-to-large accessories. I could print out and acceptable Plasma Cannon for a 40k Space Marine, for example.
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
Oh absolutely. And things like tanks and even things like Imperial Knight Proxies are surprisingly decent. With a resin printer...it's next level. All you need is a high-poly model. I'll be doing some Warhammer 40k videos over the next few months, but I want them to be real good, so I'm taking my time. You can do great things though :) And as far as the gnome wizard on a pug: www.shapeways.com/product/EWA3JVR6A/gnome-wizard-on-a-pug-mount Enjoy :)

I basically bought the ender 3 on your recommendation and I've been pretty happy. There's definitely been small problems, I'm going to switch out a glass bed today actually. But really, as a first printer, I'm super satisfied. I churn out a couple minis a day and I'm learning SO much. I've had panic moments, but it's been a good experience learning how to troubleshoot. I think I really couldn't ask for better for a lower priced entry level machine.
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
We've all had those panic moments. Sometimes, it's best to just leave the machine alone for a bit, and come back to it. Like a friend you get into an argument with :) You have the absolute right attitude, and it seems like you're growing as a result of it. Kudos to you, and I'm really happy for you. Thanks for your comment!

Great video and great review. You were one of the factors that made me lean towards getting an Ender 3. I couldn't be happier with it. I recently completed a 91 hour 45 minute print of one complete side of a Chess set using a lot of the setting you showed in your videos (based off a modified siepie profile) they came out looking incredible! Once the other side is printed it'll be time to print my mini's

One thing I think people should keep in mind is that while this is a 200 USD printer, you could easily spend another 50-100 USD on parts to get it running near perfectly. Things like nozzles, bed springs, wheels, bowden couplers and tube, print bed, bltouch and so on.

Great review , I am still playing with settings on my creator pro and not got up to this quality on minis yet and that is on £800 printer so realy shows that a very cheap priced printer can be a great tool bringing 3d printing on a budget to us all. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks Steve! I agree - the fact that there are so many folks and we've been able to tweak and work with settings almost in a "hive" like fashion I think has really helped us accelerate the quality and settings for this printer too. I think this printer is ultimately a really positive thing for our hobby. Thanks for all you do, Steve!

As an experienced Anet A8 owner, I think you've sold me on the Ender 3 as a next printer. Bowden + a rigid frame is a step up from the Anet A8 and the few issues you've highlighted don't seem like huge concerns after running an Anet A8 for a year (I think I've replaced most everything except the power supply so far).

Great review, absolutely love it! I've had issues with my £600 printer so I can imagine a $200 printer naturally has to cut corners somewhere to hit that price point. Most likely the corners cut are in quality control, increasing the speed of production. Really enjoyed the video :)

I couldn't get things to stick well to the bed. Tried all sorts of temp settings and bed adhesion types. The stock bed material peeled up and I had bubbles. Spent $7 on a piece of mirrored glass, peeled off the stock bed material and stuck the glass right on the metal bed. Excellent adhesion now and things stick super well - no glue or hairspray. I've been printing PLA at 205 and have the bed set to 215. Everything else worked well out of the box.

I am just curious, would you recommend the CR 10s V2 or the Ender 3 if you had to chose. I plan on making a bunch of 3d prints with the same scale as Nolzur's minis. I am thinking of printing anything between large dragons to regular "human" sized figures in this scale.

Hey 3D Printed Tabletop! So I bought the Ender 3. My bed came in 2 pieces. In other words unfinished. I contacted GearBest and they said use some paper clips. That kinda made me mad considering it was only a little over a week since I bought it. Any Suggestions on what I should do? Awesome channel always cool to see more!
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
Hey Pangs - I've heard they're shipping these out after complaints of getting bent beds. On the CR-10, it came with a detached glass piece to go on top of the metal bed (like yours except with the other bed surface). Don't use paper clips - use binder clips at first (like these: amzn.to/2n3t8It) but I'd probably print some clips to avoid the risk of the nozzle hitting them when homing or what not. I hope that helps! Another option, is to just get a flex magnetic plate of some sort and just put it straight on the metal bed too. Would probably be easier in the long run. Cheers!

Great video, Danny. I was impressed when I saw you video pop up on Naomi’s channel. Do you have any printers besides the CR10? Have you tried any of the upgrades/mods Angus did to his Ender 3? What would be the next, non-budget printer you might get? Excellent work!
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
Thank you so much. Naomi has done a really great job of reaching out to our community in my opinion, and I'm flattered she linked my First Thoughts Video. I have a CR-10, an Anycubic Mega i3 (which I haven't been able to even get working...I'll need to take it apart because of the major issues I'm having setting it up), and an Anycubic i3 Mega right now. I haven't tried the upgrades/mods Angus did - but HAVE ordered a magnetic build surface that should be coming sometime within the next few weeks. The next non-budget printer on my list is probably the JGAurora A5 (I mean, that's technically budget TBH) - but really I am itching to get a Prusa i3 Mk3. I'd love to try a printer with dual extrusion also, to try soluble supports for minis more than anything, so I might invest in the new Creality printer with the dual heads as well (something like the Sigma is waaaay out of my price range either way). Thank you again for your comments!

99% of the time, the reason a Creality bed is warped, is because of how tightly they strap it down during shipping.

600$ and under usually does require a bit of tinkering. At least as far as I have seen. A few outliers do exist though. However most are more geared towards smaller prints. Like one prototype I personally have seen and used is a 75x75x75 cube for its build volume. Though that one does have features that would probably make Angus (Maker's Muse) drool.

Hey, great video! Amazon offers a pro to come and setup the printer for 100$. Would you recommend this for a first timer? Would this solve most of the issues you laid out in the video?

Great video...but i just ordered an ender 3. The preassembled main frame was wobbly...that is to say the four corners would not lay flat on the table. I expected some issues and do not mind assembling stuff. . But that is a huge oversight in quality even for a $200 printer. I have tried the recommended fix for this by loosening the frame on a flat surface. Ive got to say buyer beware on any creality stuff. Bear in mind the assemblies to which im referring come preasemebled from creality.

That doesnt seem like a horrendous thing though is it? You can build up under it as long as it prints fine.

Hello! First of all, great video and awersome job with your minis! Second, can you share where you got your mini's files? Are they free or did you buy them? I'm willing to pay for them if that's what it takes. I'm a D&D DM too. Thank you!

Can I still use this type of printer for printer off school work and photos ? Instead of using the thick ink you are using. ...can I just use normal ink for paper ? Thanks, ps does it also do 4k video ?

Hey great video! I got mine Ender 3 , but I was wondering if the top plate on the bed plate is surpose to be loose? it is not attached to bed plate and is sliding around without the paper clips comming with the printer. Is this intentionally or I'am doing something wrong?

What's the total price to get to print? Aside for the printer I mean - filament, mods, etc?
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
Honestly, you don't need any mods - but you do need filament. A 1kg roll of PLA will run you anywhere from $13-25 usually. If you want to buy a build surface (totally optional) - $15-25 normally. So total required cost? About $220 depending on where you buy the printer from. A bit more if you want something like a build surface. I hope that helps :)

So I just purchased an Ender 5 and was planning on putting this in my garage. problem is, I am worried about the temperature. I live in the northwest us so winters are about 30-50 degrees F. would this cause me any issues printing? I am new to printer this is my first printer.

Every week there are new discoveries and upgrades. A review 6 months ago only shows where this thing started. Now, with a little research, you can head off most if not all your problems before you get your machine. But, you may have to invest a little more money in the upgraded parts.
@fhuber7507
@fhuber7507 5 лет назад
The printer is good. Some of the stuff available to print is a waste of filament. Its much faster to print a texture roller to imprint stone textures in pink builder's foam than to print walls, floors and most other flat stuff. Note that high quality printing of miniatures can be 2 hours per figure. Don't raft... spray with hairspray (Aquanet extreme hold). Clean occasionally with alcohol because it builds up. When it cools, the prints essentially fall off. Rafts can more than double the amount of filament needed and thus more than double the print time.

Hi Daniel. For someone who is a self-confessed “non-techy” person, you have accomplished remarkable results with your prints. I think you are selling yourself short. My takeaway from this video are: 3D printer’s are great, but do need some fine tuning. Also, be persistent, and ask for help from a largely friendly community, but do some research before you do. Keep up the great work.

Hi Andrei! Sorry to hear about some of your challenges. Pictures would help, and if you ask in the Ender 3 User Group and/or the Tabletop 3D Printing Guild we might be able to help diagnose and see what's going on. To answer your question about settings: I use the settings here for most of my prints: www.3dprintedtabletop.com/resources/3d-printing-profiles/ For the nozzle: I use a stock 0.4mm nozzle almost all the time. I hope that helps!

So far this is what i changed to a metal extruder mk8 because they filament was eating in to the plastic , then i changed the hotend whit thermal screw or Break barrel i don't know how its called so pe ptfe tub from the extruderd wont go all the way to the nozell becouse of the new hot end , the thermal screw or Break barrel have a ptfe tube inside its 2mm inside 3 mm ouside , changed the ptfe couplers , i got so tierd of clogging the nozzle that i went and changed the firmware ,that help a little but wen it retract and push it back i can see the extruder missing steps and clicking.if i let it at 4 mm it won't retract good enough , but i go to 5 mm or 6 its good but the i can hear the extruder clicking and starts to eat the plastic the same for the speed at 50 mm its ok is , at 60 its the spot but again extruder problems , some times the plastic is retracted so much that it cools down and i have to take the hotend apart ,i can't print if i need to retract for a long time or to do supports , its ok for a while then just goes really bad, i will try them next week to build an object. one with the need of supports and and to be 2 separate objects and one without the extra travel and supports ,and see how it goes , and thank you for the reply, and the profiles and keep up the good work ,i was not that much in to board games , but now i'm thinking of making small pieces for games, thank you again

No, I haven't yet. It's on my to-do list, but not as big of a deal for me personally, but I know it is for many which is why I brought it up in the video. I know many, many people who have upgraded it using the TH3D unified firmware.

Ive tried new retraction settings, looking up multiple videos and etc. I know that it can work well without stringing because ive printed the preset 3 figures and they come out perfect. If anyone has any advice on where to go or what to do it would be greatly welcomed! :)

I’m still searching for my perfect settings so although I have had some excellent quality models printed every mini I have made has fallen apart or pieces broken off of it. I do have a fairly warped bed and only the middle 2x2 space is usable till I can go out and get a piece of glass cut. But the quality of what I’m seeing looks amazing just wish I could get a print that stays together.

+3D Printed Tabletop Hi ! Could you please tell us how you fixed your under extrusion issue ? Sorry if you answered that already...
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
Hey Mr. Sidekick! Here's how I fixed it: 1) Replacing the couplers + bowden tube, and 2) upgrading to a metal extruder (vs. the plastic one it comes with). That fixed my clogs, and prevented that hole from growing due to friction in the plastic extruder, which were all causing that underextrusion. That fixed it all for me :) Cheers! Happy printing!

What's the next step up from the Ender 3? Say best option in the 300 to 400 dollar range?
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
It really depends on what you're looking for. I know some folks who really enjoy the Anycubic i3 Mega, and I know other folks who really enjoy the JG Aurora, and then of course there's the CR10 and CR10S. All are great options with different pros/cons. At the end of the day, the Ender 3 is probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to raw printing quality to build volume ratio :)
@macewen1

I don't think I want to jump into a resin printer as my first go. I have been watching a ton of videos about them and they are pretty amazing. But I am having to learn how to model all over again to create water tight meshes AND trying to take figures from Poser Pro 11 and get them to a print ready state to make custom minis and what not. Plus terrain. Among the myriad other ideas and crafty goodness . . . I have been watching your tips and tricks for upgrading and trouble shooting the Ender 3 and the generally large community for that printer is something I take into account as well.
@3DPrintedTabletop
@3DPrintedTabletop 6 лет назад
It's a great choice, honestly. If you're learning to model, I'd probably recommend the Ender 3 to start. Better to ease into it with the lower cost than to be a bit more limited by resin tech/cost. Cheers!
